FogSage Sheol Kitten Fog, don't say that. There has to be a way. My kitty, Mickey, is dying. Well, we all figured that since he's 15yo, that this is just the end of the road. So I've just been sitting here trying to keep him comfortable. Guess what? Mickey's just sick and dehydrated. Talking to NG, we got it figured out mostly and I've been forcing water into him every half hour. He's been feeling better enough to fight me and try to claw me up! whee But if I hadn't had tried, and hadn't forced him to drink, he might have just died in his painful suffering way. ~Ignoring her brother who just want to bash his head in to save him from suffering~
NG, is it possible to liquify the food and get it down his throat? Or does it need to be solid? She's been trying every damn thing she can think of. Solid, semi-solid, whatever, you name it, she's tried it. All sorts of animals too. Also: sometimes you just can't. Sometimes you can't save them. It's a fact of life. Sometimes you can't save what can't be saved. I'm not saying that this is necessarily the case, but it could possibly be. I must agree. Though it it very commendable and heartfelt to tr and save a beloved pet. It can't be done sometimes. You should always try, but sometimes it is just there time to go. At that point just cherish them, because you can't stop the cycle of life. Like when my dog passed away at the age of 10. She got liver cancer, and it was impossible to save her. So eventually we just put her down to end the pain. It's sad, but it happens all the time.

Rainey_angel81 I like seeing the snakes out on the trails int he parks. My dog jumped right over s snake the other day. I bent down to look at it, but I couldn't remember which markings went to which snake. I think it was a gopher snake... razz Markings? you mean the red touches black thing? XD "If red touches black, venom it lack, if red toches yellow, venom it has or something like that" XD and i got your payement!
FogSage NG, you're not thinking rationally. Your attachment to you pet has become your weakness. Things live and then they die. If you have tried all you can to make him well and nothing works, then what should you do? I mean, if you can't make him eat, you can't make him eat. Sorry, but that's the way I see it. I don't care if you're mad at me, because that's the way things are. At least, to me. I tried in vain to save my dog. I did. She got very sick, and would not eat nor drink for almost two weeks. She was severely dehydrated, and whatever we tried to put into her merely came back up. I didn't care, she had to try to live, because I loved her. And you know what? I learned that sometimes, you can't save the things you love, because some ******** thing out there in life wants to kill what you hold dear. My dog died. She didn't die peacefully, in sleep, as I had wanted her to. I found her the next morning, just dead. The vet said she had been so weak and dehydrated that she just.......dropped dead. It must have been excruciating for her to go through that, to know that I wanted to save her and that there was nothing I could do to save her. And that's all I wanted to say. First of all. My "Weakness" is just fine with me. Whats the point of having pets if your not going to get attatched? You get attatched to people, make bonds, etc, and they eventualy die. I'm thinking perfectly rationaly, your just pissing me off. I'm exhasperated and angry I can't get him to eat. Its very simply a failior on my part. That dosen't mean somone else cant get him to eat. What do you know about snakes, anyway? Not enough to have any good advice on the matter.
I don't care what things are to you. You don't know jack s**t about snakes, obviousely, and yes, i AM mad at you. Furious, infact, if I never had to converse with you again I'd be perfectly happy. We dont even come close to seeing eye to eye on a subject thats very important to me.
I'm sorry your dog died, but that dosen't mean you, or I have to abandon my pets companion ship. 'Oh, its going to die? Better leave it!' Well, you know, i'm not threw. I'm not going to let him suffer. For your information, ball pythons can last over a year without food, and survive on plain water, which he has at all times. I'm done attempting to feed him, or rather, offer him food. He'll have it shoved down his throat this time. Simple as that.
My cat died. I couldn't save her, she was to old. You have to except that they're eventualy going to die, and miss them horrabley because of it. What are you going to do when your family or friends die? Going to denie everyone else being your friends? Go ahead, by all means, feel free to shut yourself right up because you'll miss them. I'm not going to do that. I'm going to keep trying, until either i've exhausted my options or I've won. I wouldn't give up on my friends, why would I give up on my pets? I don't pour hours and hours into they're care for nothing. They give me everything back, love, pain, amusment, humiliation... It all makes the time you spend with them worth while, at least to me.
Crenn When the snake is right by your foot, it must be bloodly blind if it couldn't see me XD And I'm semi fine with snakes, as long as there is a professional handler there with me. But I've held a few snakes me my life time. And thanks for that information NG, it's interesting that snakes don't blink..... and I can't remember what species it was, I think it was a copper head or something like that.... Also, I was mowing at the time, but I haven't seen the snake since. I only saw it once. razz They can't see infront of them. They can sence infront of them with pits on they're face. But thats it. Ball pythons, and young pythons, really, are eprfectly fine with you holding them. Anon had three shots, force fed medication, analy probed twice, an alergic reaction, and being weighed in a cold bowl, and didnt bite anyone. smile They're very docile. Perfect, really. ...unless your a rodent. wink Anyway, Copper heads are awesome snakes, and with respect, you can watch them from a few feet away, they're very beautiful when they move! the bite, obviousely, is horrable, but they're very neat snakes. I've only been bitten by a venomus snake once. On the other side of the montains from here. Needless to say, painful. wink

NG, is it possible to liquify the food and get it down his throat? Or does it need to be solid? I'm glad hes doing better. X3 You can buy dry food and put it on the roof of his mouth/ on his nose/lip. razz He'll lick it off. Its obnoxiousely tedious, but its good to get down. Try kitten chow, or anything really, as long as its food!
Krissim Klaw Awe snake not eating, that's not good. Do you know if it was eating before you got it? Also, have you tried force feeding? I dont know, aparently he was, but I dont know if I belive the seller, who by now, ive lost track of... Force feeding and blood work is the next step. Force feeding with these guys is very gentle, thankfully. smile
Rainey_angel81 my understanding is that snakes see with their tongues. Not meaning actual sight, but they can sense more from using their tongues than eye sight and they also go by vibrations from the ground. XD See with they're tounges? They smell with them, actualy. not see. They dont really need eye sight, its just to make sure what they're seeing/smelling/tasting is really prey. They don't have ears, so they pick up vibrations in they're pits. smile Some snakes have awesome eyesight, like tree snakes.
Crenn I just got the weirdest thought in my head..... have you tried feeding it candy? XD Crenn you can only feed them small animals!
Audi Kitty Crenn I just got the weirdest thought in my head..... have you tried feeding it candy? >> Dried insects, whoo! strict carnivors. They're not insectiverous.
shoki_de_nai Audi Kitty Crenn I just got the weirdest thought in my head..... have you tried feeding it candy? >> Dried insects, whoo! Trying insects might not be a bad idea. What kind of snake is it? Three and a half...actualy probably about four year old Ball Python. razz Not an insect eater.

A perfectly healthy snake...albite, with gas, dosen't just refuse food. There has to be something wrong, and possabley in blood work. I'm not ready to say 'i quit'. I've exhuasted MY options, but not the vets, or specialists.

Sheol Kitten UglyCoyoteNG Sheol Kitten Well.. So much for Mickey doing better. He's out buried beneath the lilacs. ~Rubs her eyes~ He died after my stepmother was home, she and my Grandpa Dan had him forever, they raised him together. Funny.. Grandpa Dan called just as he started dying, he was on his way over to see him.
He got to say his final respects before we laid him in grave. oh honey... .:.snuggles.:. at least you did the best you couldfor him... and he was obviousely responsive while you where around. smile im sure you made him feel a bit better, and be a little more comfortable befor he passed away. I'm sorry Sheol<3... ~Snuggles back~ It's okay, I'm sort of glad he's dead. I sat there petting him while he died, and I kept thinking.. God that looks like it hurts.. He went into convulsions for five minutes before he finally passed on.. His face.. ~Shudders~ At least he's not hurting now.. It might make you feel better to know that he wasnt conciouse. They arent about that time. .:.pets.:.

Threw death spasums, they're not conciouse, dont feel it, basicly, its when you fall asleep. Know that feeling just befor you lose conciouseness and you cant really feel anything, the world is numb and your not even really there anymore? Thats what its like. You don't want to know how this was proven, though...
