((Haha, too true. Seems like you're already understanding Deron's character.))

"There's a good birdie," Oh, that felt good...
"Now stay still as I fix these."

He blinked and looked down, and started wondering if maybe he really should have tried to run for it. Er, fly... right. But the more he thought about it, the more he heard screams and disconcerting shouts and cries of pain. Running didn't seem to do too much good.

The sharp red eye looked to her as his head cocked slightly at her patting him. Well, she wasn't hurting him. For now. That was good sign, right?
"There now. All set."

Right, not too bad, all good and dandy-

WHAT THE HELL?

The trapped boy let out an indignant whistling shriek. He was not 'birdie'! His name was Deron! If he was going to go along ahead with this ******** up dream/near death experience, he should at least have his name right! His feathers even ruffled a bit from his ever-so-threatening squawk.

Humans... the girl kept saying that. So they truly were of a different race. This made her think of the winged woman before, and her stomach churned unpleasantly. Everywhere she looked, there were more differences then similarities. Event he trees, and brush felt different for her.

She stopped at the sight of the gathered women, and her heart plunged as she was reminded again of her state. Se half stepped behind Rejinne to try to conceal herself. But she knew the eyes of the women could see her, as one by one they discovered her state. She tried desperately not to let her tears fall, as he voice failed her. She couldn't do this for a few seconds, let alone a few minutes. How had Berry done it for so long?

||I guess you could put it that way. It has to do with the plot, sort of, and his character.||

No, it helped, really.

The flihva smiled with relief. So he wasn't a complete fool after all. Wait till Aväris heard about this. He'd be proud. And now Maar sounded like an excited school boy.

"Well, good," Maar said, standing again. He stretched his long legs and wings before pulling a feathered appendage in front of him. His feathers were a little rumpled. His fingers teased at the soft feathers, straightening them out and setting them in place again.

"You look as if you've decided something," Maar remarked, studying Strider's kitten visage. The cat was studying its paw like it was reprimanding it or something.

At the falson's shriek, Lyra pursed her lips in a moment of pain. The sound was rather loud, especially to her sensitive ears. Yes, perhaps his regular voice would be better, as he would opt to use that more than his current one.

Studying the ruffled-looking bird, Lyra wondered what was eating at it. It seemed rather hot and bothered by something, though she wasn't sure what. Deron's red eyes burned into hers. It was rather disconcerting to see so much intelligence in an animal. Well, maybe not so much intelligence, but more than the bird, surely. But then again...

"Oh, quit your squawking," Lyra scolded, opening her wings. "Just give me a moment." She mistakenly thought he was upset about his inability to speak. A small rune was drawn in the air, similar to the one Aväris drew for Strider, though neither Lyra nor Deron knew that. The rune shimmered and attached itself to the falcon's throat, pulsating before dying.

"Now you can speak, though I daresay it will sound strange. There will be some sounds you can't make, probably the ones that require flexible lips." Lyra's own lips twisted into a slight smile. This would be entertaining.

Bad paw, bad!

Had Strider been paying attention, he would have smiled at Maar's eagerly relieved smile. Eh, he liked making people feel better, what could he say?

You should behave!

If he was not so involved with reprimending his paw. He looked up suddenly at Maar's comment. The little baby tabby dropped his paw and shifted.

"I've got to do it." he said quietly. "Remaining this small and helpless isn't an option. If I had my way, I'd go with my real body, something easier to work with that I'm used to." he grimaced and swallowed. "But that's not an option." he sighed. "I guess my only problem is to figure out how I can recover, more quickly." he looked up to Maar. "How exactly are Flihva ages regarded? I mean, when are they considered adults?" His face was little regretful as he admitted, "I might have to go older than my actual age, if I need to get around."

"Oh, quit your squawking."

Deron, had it been possible, would have twisted his lips and wrinkled his nose. As it was, he could only furrow his 'brow' over his one red eye. Since he could not look at her with both straight foreward, as he quickly discovered. Now who's fault was that? He wondered.

"Just give me a moment."

To do what? Aw no, no! He squeezed his eyes, unwilling to open his eyes to any more abuse that he could possibly suffer. When his throat pulsed and bloated for a second uncomfortably, he blinked open his eyes, and opened his mouth reflexively, as though trying to dislodge something in his throat.

"Now you can speak, though I daresay it will sound strange. There will be some sounds you can't make, probably the ones that require flexible lips."

Oh he could talk now? Sweet. He looked at her.

"By bame bip mop...." then he stopped and blinked at the nonsense words, realizing that she was not joking.

||Ahh, this is just a heads up, but from Wednesday to Sunday I'm going to be away. I may or may not be able to get online, though it's sorta a fifty-fifty chance. Sorry for any inconvenience. >>;;||

Frowning, Rietha set down her basket awkwardly, her distended belly hampering her movements. She was already five moons pregnant with only three until birth. Several fraes moved in to help the pregnant frae, but Rietha waved them away.

"I'm fine," Rietha insisted, moving toward Refinne and Miren slowly. Although her bulging belly hindered her, Rietha's movements still had an unmistakable grace to them. As Rietha neared Miren, she pulled off the thick shawl draped across her shoulders and held it out to Miren with an encouraging smile. The women around them shifted uncomfortably. One of the Elders, giving her shawl to an adolescent human girl!

His wings folded back against his body, Maar moved to the other side of the room to attempt to clean Aväris's mess. As he bent down and gathered parchments to himself, Maar listened to Strider. He stood erect again, straightening out the supple papers.

"Adults? Well, usually about sixty or so human years," Maar replied, his brow wrinkled in thought. He placed the pile of papers on the marble shelf, stooping again but to gather books this time. "We age much slower than they do because of our longevity. We also don't have children often. It's a population-related thing, I think." Maar shrugged. "But Aväris can just make you look older, really. After all, I highly doubt you're a sixty-year-old Hylian."

At that moment, Aväris entered the room again, several jars held against his thin frame. Some of the jars were carved from some dark wood that was quite durable and firm. Covering the jars were stoppers lined with a thin strip of material, to better keep the stoppers in place. Aväris brought the jars into the center of the room to a low table and set them down, unstoppering them as he did so. The heavy scent of freshly baked bread and roasted nuts wafted into the air, causing Maar and Aväris to plop down eagerly at the table, reaching into the jars for the source of intoxicating bouquet. In another jar, this one of crystal, was warm milk.

Aväris presented this to Strider.

"Here," Aväris said grandly, unstoppering the crystal. "I went through a lot of trouble to get this. Flihvas rarely drink milk. I'm not quite sure what animal it's from, but I'm certain the vendor said something about a gorilla." The flihva shrugged grinning. "But I'm sure you'll enjoy it just the same. Of course, you're welcome to any thing else here, though I'm not sure your stomach will feel the same after digesting it."

This time, Lyra could not repress the giggles that surfaced at the sound of Deron trying to speak. Her chiming laughter echoed strangely across the grass, though there was nothing to reflect the sound. After a moment, the laughter ceased and Lyra smirked down at the falcon.

"By bame bip bop but?" Lyra mimicked, a smug grin plastered across her face. Her amber-green-indigo-brown eyes danced with amusement. "Oh, please stop talking unless you absolutely must. I understand you, of course, but I'd rather not burst into laughter every time you try to communicate. Perhaps you'd like another form?"

Shaking her head, Lyra's hair shifted and then changed color, turning several shades darker, from alabaster to ivory.

"Though if you do, I don't want to know now. I need to return to the city. Come, fly with me." With that, Lyra tossed the falcon into the air with an abrupt movement, forcing it to fall or fly.

((Aw darn. And here I was just about to say Howdy from Texas. Been flying and settling with family again all day.))

Miren did not understand Rietha's rank, only that she was still more graceful and beautiful than she. She tried her best to give the woman eye contact, though she internally shook with shame. When the single item was offered to her, she blinked through her tears with a relieved and grateful smile. It had felt an eternity since she had felt such simple kindness, her eyes shone with a regretful joy.

"Thank you." she whispered reverently as she received the shawl.

She held it out, just in front of her face before bowing slightly, feeling as though she had just received a treasure- a medicine to her battered ego- before quickly covering her own shoulders, and wrapping it tightly, completely around her chest.

Strider blinked. Then stared. Then shifted. No, sixty was a bit pushing it. And there was no way he'd go around as a kid. Yes, it seemed Avaris would need to make him just a tad bit older. Well, he'd like to be a little taller than older, just so he could fake an age, but it seemed he could not fake out something like this. A fresh adult... just a bit on the short side. Might help relieve the pain just slightly...

Wait, what he saying? He was already going through an incredibly painful operation, he might as well go the whole way! If he was going to be incapacitated two days, it'd better be worth it! He started pacing as his mind started reeling. He'd be, eh, little taller than 'average' height up here, that's what he was used to. And he'd have to be plenty-

FOOD!

Strider stopped and watched eagerly as the jars were put down, and uncorked one by one. His nose instinctively went to the jar of crystal where he could see the warmed milk. He climbed up to get his head in as soon as the lid was up. Gratefully his tiny pink tongue lapped at the milk. Until Avaris mentioned what animal it was 'supposedly' from.

The kitten's head cocked to the side and spit it out. Not necessarily on purpose, but there was only so much a human mind could handle. He leered at Avaris's teasing.

Deron's new red eyes leered sideways at the giggling winged sorceress next to him. She was... was... sick!
That was kinda hot actually.

"Oh, please stop talking unless you absolutely must. I understand you, of course, but I'd rather not burst into laughter every time you try to communicate."

Deron just wished he could let her know: The slight was not appreciated. His feathers ruffled, but he only let out a short indignant squawk. The hightened vision of his eyes blinked and peered at the shaking hair. Was it changing, or was that his imagination?

"I need to return to the city. Come, fly with me."

He let out another squawk. This time in an entirely human sounding fashion.

The large new wings flapped out instinctively at the abrupt launch, though it was more in the fashion of waving human arms than actual legitimate strokes of feathered appendages. In other words: He flailed.

His panicked and clumsy efforts were valiant, yet only after two seconds of being 'airborne,' he somersaulted back down to the grass. He landed on his beaked face, landing with the scrawny leashed feet and bird's rump in the air, before they flopped back down to let him lie completely on his belly. Blast it all...

||I know, I'm sorry. crying I'll try to get on, though.||

Refinne beamed in pride. Her human was special enough to don the Elder's shawl! Of course, Miren wasn't really hers, but it was fun calling her that.

Rietha smiled as Miren bowed and voiced her gratitude.

"It really is no trouble. I'm sorry we don't have better, but we can better outfit you when we return to the village. In fact, I'll escort you; the others can finish up here," Rietha added, turning to the other women. They all went back to work, acting as if they hadn't been staring in slight horror at the human. They really had nothing against the girl, but just the thought of the Elder's shawl around a scrawny human girl... Granted, a clean scrawny human girl, but still...

"Come," Rietha said, beckoning off to their right. "The village isn't far."

Refinne led Miren after Rietha, keeping to the worn path that weaved between the trees and their roots.

Aväris chuckled slightly, as did Maar, and resumed his meal. He ate in a slightly voracious manner, anticipating the energy that would be required of him within the next few hours. He downed a whole loaf of bread, which had been about twice the size of Strider, and ate a whole jar's worth of nuts. By the time he had downed all that, he reached for a decanter on the end of the table that had been there before and downed the contents. Maar stared at Aväris's gluttonous demeanor, not sure what he was seeing.

Seeing Maar's look, Aväris swallowed and smiled weakly.

"I'm going to need my energy."

Frowning, Maar nodded before finishing up his meal, not even a third of what Aväris had eaten. Maar's appetite was typical of flihvas, as they needed nutrients but required lightness to maintain flight.

Sighing slightly, Lyra bent to pick the falcon up by scooping it up with her hand from underneath its belly, being none too gentle with it. Really, its instincts weren't kicking in? Of course, Deron's mind was probably overpowering his animal instincts, not to mention the fact that he wasn't used to his form yet, further hindering him.

She placed Deron on his feet on the ground, her wings spread out behind her to balance her movements. Looming behind her slim frame, they moved unnaturally gracefully for such large appendages.

Lyra stood again, this time spreading her wings fully.

"Watch," Lyra instructed the red-eyed falcon. The great wings pumped hard, lifting Lyra several feet into the air. She pumped again and she rose even higher. Leveling her body horizontally, Lyra flew a small circle around Deron, banking and adjusting her wingtips to control her flight. The Goddess of Creation, most revered of all five gods, remained several minutes in the air, teaching a falcon how to fly.
