"I'm not just talkin' about the dead ones, mate." Ian said. "We lost a lot that came back, after we though they'd bit the dust." he explained. "A lot of those didn't get taken out immediately, either." he said, sighing. He closed his eyes for a moment.
"No, there's not an infinite supply, but there's a lot of em." he said quietly.

Evie smiled at the chef and grabbed at the plates, one for Ian and one for Elizo in case he was still hungry. She wasn't, she had lost her appetite during the fight. She walked over to their table and laid the plates down and out her hands on her hips, happy with herself. She then slid herself onto Ian's lap and wrapped her arms around his neck. Why she did this? Even she didn't have the answer to that. She didn't care that people saw...if she had to make up a story to cover him then she would wihiut hesitation.

"Went to a lot of trouble for that...eat up before we get rotated out again." Evie smiled wryly...not exactly looking forward to another rotation. Battle wasn't her thing. She was a medic for god's sake.

"Thanks, Evie." Ian said when she returned. This time, it was he who kissed her on the cheek. He smiled at her for a moment, then put his arms around her. He moved the plate to the side a little bit so he could see it around her, and started to eat, reaching around Evie while she remained in his lap. It was a little difficult, but he didn't mind at all.

"Its a shame..." He replied as Evie walked back to the table. "Thank you." Elzio looked at the plate of food that was now in front of him, and started to eat ignoring how the two where sitting.

Evie inhaled sharply when she felt Ian's lips against her cheek. It was usually she who would kiss him first and it was friendly....as much as a kiss could be at least. It was a very surprising and very welcome change though and she liked it. With his arm around her...that made it better. His arm was strong around her and made her feel secure. A security she hadn't felt in a little while. She leaned forward and rested her head against his shoulder.

"Thank you." Evie whispered to him, her lips at his neck. Her eyes closed for a minute and she sighed, content. Oddly enough things were getting better even during post-apocalyptic warfare.

When Evie leaned her head against his shoulder, he saw Elzio looking a little glum. He chuckled softly. "You're welcome." he whispered into Evie's ear. "As much as I like this, though...mind sittin' next to me for a bit? I think we're makin' the other bloke a bit depressed. And it's kinda hard to eat." he whispered, grinning.

Evie sighed and sat up, slipping off his lap. Of course people were uncomfortable about the fact that they were the way they were. Ian was just being nice about the whole thing anyway, seeing as how they were both a bit lonely...or maybe that thought was just in her head. She looked at the both of them and gave them a smile and wave.

"See you boys later." She turned on her he'll and walked off back to her barracks. When she had been resting her head against Ian's shoulder, she had nearly fallen asleep anyway. It was comfortable and warm enough for her and she fully enjoyed it though now she was headed to her sorry piece of material she called a bed.

Evie yawned and flopped down on her bed, the hard brick not yielding to her so she felt the wind rush out of her lungs. She DEFINITELY needed a different bed. Anything.

"See ya later, Evie." Ian said, smiling at her while she left. He turned back to his food and started to eat, looking up at Elzio. "Don't fret, mate, there's plenty of sheilas here." he assured him, smiling. "That other Guardian Angel, there-" he nodded to Jess. "So far as I know, she's open." he told him.

Elzio looked up as Evie started to walk off. "Bye." He simply said as he turned to Ian. "I'm not going to." He looked over to where Jesse was sitting. "What ever happens, happens." Taking another bite of food, he started to feel full, and placed the fork back down on the plate. "Might as well introduce myself anyways. In case we do end up fighting together. Better to know who you can trust on up there." He smiled, and stood up as he excused himself, and took care of his plate before starting to walk over to where Jesse was sitting.

Ian laughed. "Well mate, nothin's gunna come from nothin', aye?" he said. "Ya can't say whatever happens, happens, if ya don't make anythin' happen." he pointed out, finishing up his food just as Elzio finished. "Aye, good idea. See ya around, mate. And if ya do get rotated up, well, good luck." he said, getting up and handing the chef his plate, leaving the messhall and headed toward the barracks.

Evie had just about reached the fringes of sleep, the long fingers dragging her to the depths of semi-consciousness. A noise close by woke her up however, starlted her and she sat upright, bolt straight. It was the commander again. He gave her a look and she straightened again, sliding our of bed to stand up.

"Sir?" Evie questioned.

He had come to tell her that she was being rotated in again. Her mouth opened in shock. Already? It seemed minutes ago she had been rotated out. With a long sigh, she pulled on a thicker shirt and her cloak over it. It was definitely time. Evie folowed the commander back to the entrance and exit and sighed. No turning back. Evie climbed outside and quickly rolled to one side as a bullet whizzed by. Her heart raced now...already a few seconds in and she had already nearly escaped life.

Evie zipped across the field to tend to those who needed her. Most were already dead when she got there and she sent out little prayers to each of them. That made it at least bearable. Another man had just fallen and she frowned...this one she could save. Evie raced forward and quickly got down on her knees. She had two backup soldiers behind her to help but she only needed them to watch her back. Evie checked his pulse and it was slowing. She worked quickly and tried to stable him. An extremely loud gun fired and she winced, pain in her ears....and lower. Evie looked down and noticed a red blossoming stain on her clothes and she realized what had happened. More shots fired off and she gritted her teeth, not wanting to yell out. Apparently her backup would have benefitted her more if they were watching her front instead of her back. Evie felt dizzy and could no longer control her shaking fingers. The man under her was alive if not a monster now.

Her vision became narrow and she wondered why opening her eyes made her so tired all of a sudden. Evie felt hands grab at her but she couldn't stop it, her arms felt like lead weights at her sides. She felt herself rise up into the air and big, brawny arms carry her limp body. The sky above her looked extremely inviting now. Her thoughts moved to Jessica. The other medic was so friendly towards her. Then to Elizo...he was new to her but he seemed so sweet. Then onto Ian....his eyes...

The call came. Ian nodded, and headed up to the surface. He didn't have the time to restock, so he simply picked up the rifle and ammunition off of dead soldiers. He was looking for Evie, knowing she'd be out here too.

He saw her, and his heart dropped.
A zombie was holding her now, picking her high up into the air. She was limp, and from here, he could see the red stain on her shirt. He fired off a whole magazine straight into the zombie's stomach, ripping him to shreds. He quickly reloaded and picked up Evie in a fireman's carry, then raised his rifle and fired one handed at the oncoming zombies, whatever was left, heading back toward the base.
"Stay with me, Evie." he said loudly. "Listen to my voice. Do not give in. Stay awake." he ordered.

[Edit: What happened to her, was she shot or hit by the zombie?]

Evie could feel herself fallig and then landing on the ground. She felt herself being lifted up again and felt something hard and muscular press into her stomach. She cried out and tried to move but found herself being held steadfast. A horrible, coppery taste flooded her mouth and she couldn't get it out. Soon she would find herself choking on whatever it was. Evie recognized the warm, metallic tasting liquid as blood. She sputtered and spat out what she could. She knew many died from not only the wound but the lack of air that ensued when one was panicking and in pain. Shock.

A familiar voice reached her ears though she couldn't place who it was. Her mind flipped through the faces to match the voice and she finally got herself to figure out who it was. Ian. Had he been called out as well. He was urging her to hold on but it was hard when the alternative felt so good. Inviting even.

"I can't." Evie choked on her words. She wanted nothing more than to give up. Succumbing would be easier than fighting.

Ian shook his head. "You can. Keep listenin' to my voice, Evie." he said. He couldn't think of anything else to say, something that would allow him to keep talking, thus keeping her conscious.
So, he did the first thing he could think of right now. He sang.
"I once had a girl, or should I say, she once had me..." he began. His logic was that he would be able to keep talking until they reached home base, and allow her to relax a little bit.

Evie's mind danced along the border. Either way she could fight and keep herself awake or she could fall and succumb to whatever wanted to take her. It was an ongoing tug of war battle for her and all the while she had to keep reminding herself to stay awake for whoever's sake. She felt a long sigh escape her lips and felt drowsy all of a sudden. Sleep would have been nice. A singsong voice penetrated through the thick cloud of sleep and brought her to semi-consciousness once more. She didn't understand what was going on. Her body felt numb and heavy and she wondered how he was able to carry her.

"What...?" Evie spoke as another breath escaped through her clenched teeth. What in the world was he singing about? And why? If things weren't odd enough already, there was a singing soldier carrying a half dead girl on his person.
