I'm glad that you got a day to relax, Jameta.^_^ Today's mine- so if anybody's out there thinking about posting here, I'll be checking in and out and would love the company.

So far, today's gone fairly well. I had a rough day yesterday, so I slept in this morning. Read a bit of the Halfblood Prince, and now I'm working on translations for my study group meeting.^_^

I type my translations into a text program on the computer, for ease of copying and pasting them into the discussion. So it's not too hard to interject short posts here between them.^_^

When I finish this, I really need to get back into Hornung's book- it's an interesting one, so I should find ideas there for a post to my journal. I'm afraid I've been neglecting it lately.-_-

w00t! I found a reflexive verbal construction- I'd been wondering how to do that.^_^

Middle Egyptian isn't exactly the easiest language in the world to translate.^_^' No spaces between words, and no vowels. Words can be out of grammatical order when they're the names of gods or kings, spellings aren't always written out- even though it's just the consonant frames to begin with- and the spellings themselves can be rearranged if another letter order is more aesthetically pleasing. O_o

You pretty much just have to build a wide vocabulary, so that you can recognize as many words as possible on sight- even if they're not completely written out. Then you can isolate the more unfamiliar words by default- as they're what's left over when the familiar words have been picked out.

I have that page set as my homepage, and I save the word and definition each day. I have a program that turns them into flashcards. I also create word banks as I do my translations- any word that I had to look up for the translation gets added to the word bank. I'm slowly building up my vocabulary.

It's still pretty difficult, though, and I'm nowhere near literate. I'm getting better, though- I can usually translate the sentences given in my homework, at least.^_^'
