Gak's twitching seems to be lessening, although it has yet to disappear completely. He speaks for the first time to another being, and his huge eyes stare quite disconcertingly, though he seems genuinely pleased. "Hello, Miss Nicolette. Gak is---" his ears both flutter, like a feline dislodging dust "---glad to meet Miss." His manner is different, much more pleasant, when he is not speaking to himself.

OOC Sorry I'm only semi-lit. All I know about RP I learned from D&D. I'm hoping to pick some things up as I go, if that's all right. =)

Nikki has to hold back her urge to squee at the flicking of the lil elf's ears. She finds
the powerfully magical tiny creatures adorable. Nikki has had very little experience
around house elves. Despite not having many elves to contemplate (yet), she can't
seem to help but find the ones she has met charming.

"It's really nice to meet you too Gak!" Nikki beams happily, all traces of hesitation
having left. "You seemed rather intent on digging around in here. Was that just
for something to do or did you really have specific plans of some kind?"

Thinking for a moment Nikki decides to try to get a dialogue going. "Alui here and
I were just discussing our favorite foods to prepare. Do you like to cook Gak?
What do you enjoy making? Alui and I agreed that bread dough is fun to play
with and smells great when it's baking!" she chirped.

Alui, who had taken to looking at the floor and worrying at her cloth covering, looked up upon being spoke about by Gak. She looked over at Nikki, her big eyes lit.
"Missus, I would love to be makin some bread, missus, and I never had someone to help me, Missus... And Mister Gak must be good, I think, Missus."
Alui looked down again, but her little smile was unmistakeable. She was so very excited to be speaking with people who didn't throw a shoe at her or call her names.

"Watch out my sweets!" PJ called out, weaving inbetween the elves as she quickly cereal, oatmeal and other sorts out to put on the four tables.

She noticed a small elf go and hide in a cupboards, and once she was done setting down the food, she walked over to said cupboard and give it a swift kick.

"Wake up and get your booty out of there before I make you get out!"

I just love how it's called The Giggling Pear. I don't really know why I love the name so much. I guess it's because no one else on the 'Net really uses the giggling pear from the books and applies it to any kind of forum or . . . so on.

Anyway, I'm really excited to be a House-Elf, but I am confused about something (and, knowing my luck, I'll find a place where my question is asked ten minutes after I post this . . .). When does the "official" Sorting Ceremony take place? I might want to wait for that instead of getting Sorted early. You know, for the sake of the realism bits and all.

Nikki felt like her heart was melting from the warm fuzzies at talking to the tiny
elves. Smiling she addresses Gak's concerns. "Ah don't worry Gak. Alui is a
very good elf but you are too! We can teach you how to make bread. It's
easy and fun!" she chirps as her eyes twinkle merrily.

Hearing Alui accept Gak made Nikki even happier if that was possible. She really
was enjoying their company immensely. "Well sweetheart, since Gak needs to
learn something new and you're already so amazing, why don't you teach
him? Don't worry" she said as she squeezed Alui's hand. "I'll help you out
too." Grinning she nodded. "I definitely think Gak's a good guy as well."

Reaching out, Nikki took Gak's little hand in hers. She walked slowly but
purposefully back to the table of bread-stuffs. It was a bit short for her
but Nikki didn't mind. "Well, here are all the things we'll need to make
some delicious bready breakfast delights!" Nikki squeezed both elves'
hands before letting go and grabbing a book she'd gotten earlier. Flipping
it open she pointed to the all-purpose dough recipe. "This is a good bread
base to start with. Once we get a big batch made we can separate it and
add some other flavorings and ingredients. Lets get started, shall we? I
can't wait to cook with you both!" she beamed.

'The bones is already ground," said Gak, tracing his knobbly fingers through the flour. "There is no more to do."

Hearing Gak's concern at the prepared flour Nikki had to stifle a giggle. It
seemed silly to her that someone would need to grind their own flour in this
day and age. After a moment though, Nikki realized what Gak said with a bit
of horror. W-wait, bones?! Nikki's mind yelped. I'd heard the "grind your bones
to make my bread" nursery rhyme before but come on! Who the heck did Gak
work for before this? she thought with a worrying gnaw at her bottom lip.

Reining her thoughts back in, Nikki turned and smiled at the boy elf next to
her. "Ah Gak, this is flour" she said gently. "It's made from grain not bones.
We'll use it with some yeast and water to make bread. See the book here?"
she said pointing to the bread recipe. "We'll just do what it tells us, okay?"
Keeping her smile firmly in place, Nikki handed Gak a measuring cup.

Alui worried the cloth covering her slight frame again, her head down and eyes flicking around. The very thought of grinding bones made Alui's skin crawl. Elves were not usually made for morbid things, though Alui supposed it had everything to do with where and how an elf worked. Many a free elf seemed to think Alui's immediate submission to be strange, but it was all Alui had known. The Mistress had not been kind when confronted with "insubordination."
Nevertheless, Alui used her magic to carefully measure out yeast, water, salt, and other seasonings for the breads, snapping her fingers to draw out large bowls from their hiding places around the kitchen, filling them with ingredients and lining them up in an orderly fashion along a counter.

Amelia walks in the kitchen, and sees one of her students being very kind to the houseelves she walks to the main bulltein board and posts a very important announcement !

After getting Gak somewhat sorted in the right direction, Nikki turned her attention
back to Alui. The elf girl was working with apparent ease; her speed and grace at
preparing the food making Nikki's eyes widen a little. Though she had read up a fair
bit on house elves, Nikki's actual experience with them was lacking. No matter how
prepared she thought she was for them, they always seemed to surprise her.

After a moment Nikki's mind processed that she'd seen Alui's nervous tick again.
The tiny elf seemed to fuss her cloth covering whenever she was overwhelmed or
stressed. Smiling brightly, Nikki decided to bump up Alui's much neglected ego.

"Wow Alui! You're doing amazing!" she said with no hint of sarcasm. "Elf magic
is truly awesome... I can only hope I'll ever be even a fraction as talented as
you are." Nikki nodded as if reaffirming her statement. Pondering for a moment,
she spoke up again. "You don't seem to need the cookbook at all honey. I guess
you've cooked A LOT before, huh? I like cooking but I haven't memorized many
recipes!" Nikki giggled.

For a moment, Nikki worked on chopping ingredients and getting finished batters
into tins and pans. "You know what I'd like to make once we've sorted all the
bread stuffs out?" she asked out of the blue. "Pancakes! They are my absolute
FAVORITE breakfast food... Erm, well maybe any food at all. They're so fluffy
and nummy and not good for you exactly but still ohmygosh I love them!" Nikki
chortled gleefully.
