Calliandra Aileen Acton
11 years old
Unsorted First Year
Pureblood
With: the school
Location: The Great Hall
Wearing: School Robes

Calliandra looked around at the castle as she entered the Great Hall. It was massive, bigger than Calliandra had ever imagined it could be. And there were so many people, all of them looking at the little group of first years. She knew it wasn't the case, but Calliandra almost felt like they were looking at her, and she wanted to go someone where she could be by herself. She forced herself to keep looking around. Calliandra swept her hair back a little, out of her face. This is manageable. I just have to learn how I am going to work with it.

People were getting called to the front, where the professor was placing an old, ratty hat on their heads. The hat would then tell them where they belonged. Calliandra grinned a little. She could sit on a stool; any idiot could do that. She wouldn't need to worry about making a mistake with that.

Even though she knew it would happen, she still started when she heard her name called. "Calliandra Acton," the professor said, and Calliandra stepped forward. She had been standing rather close to the back of the group, and she had to slip her way through the other students. "Excuse me," she muttered, having to repeat herself as she accidentally bumped into other students.

She popped herself up on the stool, letting the hat settle on her head. Alright, Hat. I don't know where I want to be, so I am not too particular. Just make sure I go somewhere where I can show everyone what I am made of. And preferably somewhere I can avoid some of the idiocy.

Quiet Calliandra likes to stay quiet and watch others. She is more interested in knowing information than sharing it, and she often loses interest after compiling new ideas. She also likes to know all the gossip and talk, though she doesn't often share with others.
Loyal She has a hard time making new friends, so those she does manage she wants to keep. She is willing to help them with anything they need, though she often doesn't notice their needs and needs to be told about them.
Elitist She believes that people with a higher native intelligence are better, and she tends to dismiss those she thinks lacks a high enough IQ.
Curious She would like to know everything about everything, and she is still young enough to think that if she works hard enough, it is possible.
Studious She is proud of her history of good performance before Hogwarts, and she would like to continue that trend. She spends many evenings completing homework and reading, intent of having the top grades in the school.
Arrogant She walks into every room expecting to be the smartest, and it takes a lot to prove to her otherwise. She also thinks she is the most rational person in almost every group possible.

Ambitious She wants to be the best student Hogwarts has seen in recent years, and she is determined to prove that she is the equal to any adult.

The Professor set the hat down carefully on the student's head. For a moment the hat was silent before speaking....
Avoid the idiocy, you say?
Interesting, and you're an ambitious one
That makes it easy

no you don't know what its like
when nothing feels alright
you don't know what its like to be like me
to be hurt, to feel lost
to be left out in the dark

Rayne watched the procession as people sat on the stool and some stupid hat was placed on their head. When it shouted out a house though, Rayne blinked and stared. Oh, so that was the process. Rayne waited until it was her turn to sit and let them place the stupid hat on her head. Whatever house the hat put her in, she just hoped people would leave her alone there. Rayne huffed a sigh as she waited for it to sort her.

Personality
WITHDRAWN Rayne is not one to usually express her feelings, rather, she withdraws into a protective shell. She isn't very forthcoming with information about her life and because of that, she isn't very trusting of others.
SKEPTICAL The way her life has gone so far, Rayne is very skeptical of just about everything. She's very negative about when things seem to be going her way, because as she says, all good things must come to an end.
RESOURCEFUL Growing up the way she has, Rayne is very good at preparing herself and acquiring what she needs. Sometimes, she resorts to illegal methods to acquire what needs acquiring and being bad isn't against her nature. She'll do what needs to be done.
CREATIVE Above all, Rayne is creative. Verbally, this means she's good at weaving lies and believing the lies that she tells. In other means, she is a very avid writer and, at least to herself, her writing skill is admirable.
STUBBORN Once Rayne has made her mind up about something, there is little that can sway her from her decision. This has, on many occasions, gotten her into trouble. However, it has saved her on the emotional side of her life.
EGOCENTRIC Rayne is most focused on number one... herself. She will help others, but if it might cause her harm, she won't do it. She won't put others above herself.

Roman was a bundle of excitement, nerves, and gas, all wrapped into one tight little bundle of black robes. He was trying not to bounce (he really needed to use the loo.) He should've asked the Deputy Headmistress while they were waiting out in the Antechamber. It would've been the perfect chance—except he forgot—but who wouldn't? The portraits were moving on the walls, waving and watching the first years, fire blazed bright on the sconces and suits of armor lined up against the walls standing at attention. The Great Hall was even greater than his aunt had described. It was HA-YUGE. With four long sprawling tables decked to the brim in their set colors like preppy chavs in matching Ralph Lauren clothes. Y'know, those wankers that coordinate their shirts and belts with their socks and shoelaces, s'ridiculous, but he was going to be one of those preppy matching wankers now, wasn't he? On the one hand, Roman didn't like that. He wanted to be different. On the other hand, blending in could prove more advantageous than his greedy little hearts desire to 'just have fun.' No. Roman was going to have to think on that a while before making any rash decisions. Or... y'know... Maybe just a quick trip to the loo. But he never got the chance. Not when his name, being near the forefront of the alphabet, had just been called and it seemed like a path was suddenly carved out for him when all the students moved. Or maybe that was just because he was pushing without really looking? Either way, Roman clambered onto the rickety three legged stool and sat with his curly topped head anxiously awaiting that ugly pointed wide brimmed hat.

🙗 DAREDEVIL An adventurer and free-spirit, he's always willing to jump in and get his hands dirty. He has a bad habit of leaping before he looks, though. And it's always hard to say no to a good dare or bet.
🙗 AMBITIOUS He's driven to be the very best at whatever he does; unfortunately, what he wants isn't usually ideal. He doesn't want to be the leader or the boss, but he does want to reap all the benefits without having to put in the work. He wants to make connections to make it easier for him to do what he wants: have fun.
🙗 CURIOUS Roman is always open to trying new things. He loves to learn, but better then that, he loves applying that knowledge to test new ways to blow stuff up and break stuff down. He loves science, for that reason. And has been known to break open electronics to see how everything works.
🙗 OPTIMISTIC Roman always tries to look on the bright side of things. Life should be enjoyed, and he tries to live it to the fullest. Which means making friends and helping people, (it's just icing on the cake if it can benefit him too.)
🙗 DETERMINED Though not in his best interest, he's too stubborn and too arrogant to give up. He doesn't back down from a challenge and he works hard to strive for what he has and what he wants.
🙗 SELF-PRESERVING Versatile, he's always open to taking advantage of the situation at hand. Even if it means saying nothing and taking a step back to let someone else take the blame, or try to find a scapegoat. (It doesn't always work, he tries to be honest, for the most part, but covering his arse is more important.)

The Professor set the hat down carefully on the student's head. For a moment the hat was silent before speaking....
Well now, you're a difficult one

For you, it'll be

You fall through the trees,
And you pray with your knees on the ground.
For the things that you need...
With your lust and your greed weighing down.
And you weaken your love,
And you hold it above your head.
Success is a song of the heart, not a song of your bed!

Donella was proud to be in line to be sorted. It wasn't that she thought she was superior to say, the average muggle girl her age. It was just that she'd been fortunate enough to be the daughter of a witch and wizard, and here she was, standing in an ancient school, about to partake in an ancient tradition. She liked traditions. They were what kept the world spinning. True, she wasn't very excited, wondering where she'd go, but she was eager to join the house of her parents, and in a few years, her brother. Besides, she was starving, and the sooner it was her turn, the sooner she'd eat. Her mother was an excellent cook, but she'd heard the food at Hogwarts was legendary.

OOC:
■ BENEVOLENT Donella always starts off with the best of intentions. Unfortunately, for all her desire to do good at heart, she can be quite the zealot, and often gets ahead of herself, overwhelming others with her cheerfully ruthless 'can do, will do, no matter what' attitude. Donella is kind and and compassionate as the day is long, without an ulterior motive to speak of, but don't get in her way. ...It won't end well for anyone.
■ TRADITIONAL Despite her mother very much being the matriarch of her immediate family, Donella was raised in and clings to a more traditional fashion. Women lead through words and example, men through action and strength. Elders should be respected. Manners are not a suggestion but an obligation, and a little humility and respect goes a long way. While Donella is very much her own person and far more a leader than a follower, she does put a great deal of stock in more time-honored ideals, and looks poorly upon those who flout them.
■ FASTIDIOUS Donella is a firm believer in 'if you are going to do something, do it right'. She believes in taking her time, and that slow and steady will always wins the race. Reckless, impulsive behavior that doesn't take others into consideration annoys her to no end, as does sloppy work or unnecessary mess and disorder. Not to say that Donella is a clean freak, but she tends to accomplish tasks more slowly than most, not because she's dull-witted, but because she cares a bit too much.
■ STEADFAST Donella is extremely firm and loyal in attitude. She rarely changes her mind or wavers in her decision making, although she will take her time, and refuses to be coerced or pressured by those around her. Donella will never abandon a friend or forsake a belief, and her promises might as well be made of iron. She never says anything she doesn't mean, and very rarely tells even a white lie.
■ MODEST Donella is not one to put herself down or disparage her own abilities in an effort to get compliments from her peers, but she is very humble, and doesn't see herself as particularly talented in anything other than hard work and dedication. She's not often pretentious or trying to come off as smarter or holier than tho, and doesn't like showy or flashy things. Donella would much rather just be herself.
■ FORBEARING Donella is by nature a very patient, reserved sort of person. While she doesn't usually have very much difficulty getting along with others or making friends, she does have an easygoing sort of outlook when it comes to those she considers friends, and is willing to tolerate a lot in a relationship before she even gets annoyed. This indulgent attitude can sometimes blind her to the reality of situations and the people around her.

And we all still die, yeah, we all still die-
What will you leave behind, oh, we all still die...
Marching away from the stream;
This tree, it will die without leaves.
This tree, it will die, this tree, it will die.
And we all still die, yeah, we all still die-
What will you leave behind, oh, we all still die...

The Professor set the hat down carefully on the student's head. For a moment the hat was silent before speaking....
Loyalty and modesty?
Patient and forgiving?
Simple enough, you'll do well in

Hufflepuff!

Myron didn't really care what house he ended up in, to be honest. Mam wouldn't care either way, even if her family had been all Gryffindor for generations- besides, he wasn't a Thorburn. He was a Hargrave, and had been since birth, no matter what anyone else said about it. He didn't think he was going to get Hufflepuff, but as for the other three... eh. So long as he got along with his housemates, or at least fit in, it didn't matter to him. His mother had taught him that house stereotypes were often far from accurate, and he didn't find himself drawn toward the ideas of any particular house. When his name was called, he approached the stool calmly enough, and hoped he wasn't a hat stall. He didn't want everyone gawking at him for minutes on end.

OOC:
■ BITTER Myron, having inherited what some term the 'Thorburn moodiness' from his mother's side, is prone to feeling slighted and resentful, although these feelings do have some ground in reality, seeing as although he always knew both his parents loved him and truly considered him their son, knowing he was the b*****d child and that his father seemingly couldn't be bothered to marry his mother stung. He's got a nasty habit of feeling constantly wronged, even when it's justified.
■ COURAGEOUS Myron has never been afraid to do the right thing or help someone else, even when it puts him at risk. He's not easily intimidated or cowed by other people, and while not as impulsive as say, his mother, won't think twice before speaking his mind or doing what he thinks necessary. He's very protective of his friends and family, and not afraid to show it.
■ KIND Despite his moods and sometimes prickly nature, Myron does try to give everyone the benefit of the doubt and treats others the way he'd like to be treated. While not quite cheery or very outgoing, he is always willing to listen to someone else vent and offer advice, and he does care very deeply about the people around him, as he knows what it's like to feel ignored or left out.
■ OPEN-MINDED Myron may not go out of his way to make friends, but he is very tolerant of others and respectful, something trained into him by his mother, who often remarked that her worst fear would be to have a prejudiced snob for a child. Having grown up in a very non-traditional family, not much fazes Myron, and he is usually willing to just 'go with the flow', so to speak.
■ SHREWD Myron has never considered himself exceptionally clever; he likes reading and all, and does decently in school, but you could say he's far more street smart than book smart. He's not easily manipulated and is cynical enough to be far from gullible or naive, and thus usually prides himself on being fairly good at reading people and their intentions.
■ DECISIVE Myron cannot stand indecision or waiting around for things to change. Once he decides to do something, he does it. He can't stand people who are constantly waffling or changing their minds, and it's very difficult to change his mind on something once he comes to a decision. He'd rather be known as stubborn than hesitant

Nowhere Man, please listen;
You don't know what you're missing!
Nowhere Man, the world is at your command...
He's as blind as he can be-
Just sees what he wants to see-
Nowhere Man, can you see me at all?

The Professor set the hat down carefully on the student's head. For a moment the hat was silent before speaking....
Bit of a mixed bag, aren't you?
And you don't care where you go?
Almost a snake, but without the drive
Which leaves

Gryffindor!

Upon entering the Great Hall, Lilian was met with a great crowd of students. Many were already seated along grand tables belonging to their respective houses. As her crystal blue eyes danced along the sea of people, taking in what they could, Lilian would slowly shuffle forward along with the other first years. They seemed to be moving in a fluid order, and as the line grew shorter, she grew closer to her destiny.

For the most part, Lilian was sure of what house she would end up in. As she had divulged to Elide earlier, she was either going to end up following either her Ravenclaw father or her Slytherin mother's footsteps. She would be truly surprised if she made her way into the Gryffindor or Hufflepuff houses, but who knew better than the Sorting Hat?

In the moment, Lilian felt a strong tug toward her late mother. As she sat upon the chair and had the old, mothy hat placed on her head, she imagined a similar version of herself sitting in the same place all those years ago. If she could see her now surely she would feel proud.

xxxPERSONALITYxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

        AMBITIOUS:
While her tenacity to be decisive may still be in development, when Lilian knows what she wants, she will do whatever it takes to get it. She will always be in a state of progression and will seek out new opportunities when she feels she is lacking. Though introverted, Lilian is confident and assured about her success in the future and believes that it is a simple matter of choice. There is a never a question about if she will succeed, merely when.

        RESOURCEFUL:
Lilian's observant nature has allowed her to develop a keen sense of resourcefulness. She doesn't have to be in a pinch to find a use in everything and is no stranger to working with her hands when a wand isn't at her disposal. Lilian likes to feel like she has a certain amount of control over the environment around her. She is clever, handy and rarely without an idea about something.

        DOGMATIC:
Being an only child, Lilian is used to very little competition or opposition. In any argument, debate or conflict with a peer, she is right - even if it's only in her own mind. She has a hard time accepting ideas that conflict with her own and is very stubborn if she is in the process of attempting to. Although this trait is often viewed negatively, Lilian holds herself confidently and is never afraid to share her opinion when deemed necessary.

        INTROVERTED:
Lilian would never say she is shy, but wouldn't disagree when called an introvert. Until she has adjusted to a situation or a group of people, she will usually keep to herself so that she may stand back and observe. Like all introverts, Lilian likes having a quiet space to recharge her social batteries and sort through her own thoughts.

        ELOQUENT:
Lilian likes to think she got a silver tongue from her father, who was a journalist that encouraged her to be an avid reader and a smooth talker. She is able to express herself clearly and was lucky enough to overcome a stutter before too late. Lily chooses her words carefully before she speaks with haste or disregard.

        PERCEPTIVE:
Despite the information that may have been fed to her, Lilian will always trust what she feels is a strong sense of intuition. At least, it's never failed her yet. Lilian likes to be able to take a moment to sit back, observe and begin to understand everything around her. Simply put, she tries her best to see the world as it truly is.

Andy O'Farrell

first year // unsorted // muggle-born // gender-fluid

____________________________________________

Before Andy could have much of a conversation with anyone, the deputy headmistress was calling them into the castle. 'Already?' Andy thought with a nervous tightening in their throat. They could feel their legs shaking as they followed the others into the great hall, their eyes keeping to the floor as they felt the gaze of at least a hundred students all around them. But really, when the teacher had started calling off names, only one thought crossed Andy's mind. 'Please don't say my birth name out loud.' If that happened, Andy wasn't sure that they could ever recover from the embarrassment. There was a reason they were so adamant about being called by their preferred name.

Suddenly, it was their turn. "Andara O'Farrell," the voice called out, and they looked up with sheer shock and horror. Instantly their face became red hot, and their eyes darted to the floor as they trudged forward to the stool. Andy wasn't usually one to cry. But there were sometimes those certain circumstances where their eyes flooded without their approval. This was one of those times. The embarrassment they felt was overwhelming, and they felt the sudden urge to turn and run even though it felt like there was a hundred pound stone in their gut. Slowly, they sidled up onto the three-legged stool and felt the floppy sorting hat come down onto their head, grateful for the small courtesy of their eyes being hid from the room by its large brim. Apparently this hat could talk, which was pretty mind-boggling. How could a hat choose where you belong? Andy assumed that it was some sort of magic that let it analyze your inner thoughts. They mused on that for a while, waiting nervously for the hat to begin making its decision. It was all that Andy could do not to imagine just what everyone out there was thinking... Would they all assume that Andy was a girl, now? 'Please no,' Andy almost said out loud, their tears rolling. They hoped that, at the very least, they got put into a good house...

People can describe me as socially awkward. That is the be all, end all, but if anyone were able to make their way past my fumbling for words and failings at small talk, they would realize that I am very perceptive, empathetic, and have a tendency of over-thinking just about everything. (That just means I have a unique way of seeing things!) I am the most excited when I am learning new things or starting a new project, though I will rarely finish what I start. What I do, I do to keep my mind constantly occupied and away from the otherwise anxious thoughts which would drive me mad. It's a good thing I'm intelligent.

The Professor set the hat down carefully on the student's head. For a moment the hat was silent before speaking....
Oh, I wouldn't worry so much about it, child
There are those who will question, but there are plenty who will understand
Clever child that you are, you'll grow and adapt well
I think you'll do well in

The Professor set the hat down carefully on the student's head. For a moment the hat was silent before speaking....
Proud, indeed
You're well suited for your mother's house
No question about it, you'll do well in

Ana and the surrounding students had been escorted in a massive hoard through the halls of Hogwarts. She almost caught herself lagging behind as she had gotten herself entranced by the many portraits and their varying personalities. The structure of the school itself was marvelous. So ancient and regal, she felt like the princess she acted. Many twists and turns later, they were brought before two large doors. She could hear the buzz of chattering students behind the behemoth hunks of carved wood and it made her stomach flip with excitement. Once the entrance was opened, her mouth fell open as well.

Anastasia stared in awe at the massive room the group of first years entered. It's humongous capacity was comfortably holding the multitude of students of different years, and each teacher along a great long table at the forefront of the space. Careful not to get left behind this time, Ana wanted to look as if she felt at ease and unmoved, but also not rude and disgusted. She settled with a high chin, shoulders back, but a tiny smile creeping up at the corners of her lips, just to make aware that she was in fact still a child who enjoyed fantastic sights.

As all the first years stood awaiting their fate by the hat that sat on their heads. Ana listened closely as each name was called, and which house they had been placed. She heard Gertie's name go by and the raspy shout of Hufflepuff. Ana was not surprised within the least. She pegged her in that house from the very beginning. She was happy she would prosper in such a diverse house. Name by name and of course Ana knew she would be one of the last called due to being so far down the alphabet. She still was startled when her name came up. Eyes expanding in fear for a moment, she settled back in her calm and poised state.

Sauntering her was through the last few students, she gracefully made her way up the steps and sat herself down on the stool. Legs crossed and arms neatly placed on her lap. The hat was then lowered down atop her head. She could feel her heart race a bit. Unsure if it was anxiousness, or excitement, or maybe even a little bit of fear, she took a couple deep breaths and awaited to hear the hats voice echo in her brain.

      POLITE
Anastasia was raised to be well mannered and respectful. While some of her other traits may not completely follow suit, her parents made it very clear to her that those she surrounded herself with, be it peers, adults, and authority figures are to be treated with respect. Although Ana's own rule she added on to that would be: if they deserved the respect. She holds herself to high standards and if other don't reach her heights, then they would fall.

      HONEST
Honesty would be the nice way of putting it. To be clear, Ana never means to be rude. She simply doesn't feel it's necessary to butter something up for someone to hear. She lives by the saying of 'honesty is the best policy'. She attempted to lie in her early years, but her parents were extremely smart and alwys caught her in her lies. Thus, she just chose to stop. Why bother if someone with always see through it?

      SARCASTIC
Having a slightly dry sense of humor leads to her firing back witty sarcastic comments. Some are so tactful that she will need to stop and let those around her know that she isn't being serious. Other times she will make it clearly obvious, especially if she's feeling very snarky that day. You could suppose her sarcasm is their to balance out her straight edge bluntness.

      CARING
With all her harsh edges, Anastasia does deeply care for those close to her. Once you become a part of her inner circle she shields you a great deal. It seems to stem from her family. Being protective and doing what ever is needed to be done to make those around you happy. Her mother and father care for their children in many ways, be it for emotional support, or gifts to make them happy. They would find a way to make them smile. Growing up with that, Ana no returns the favor to those she has befriended.

      SHELTERED
Coming from a pretty wealthy family, Anastasia tended to get whatever she liked and had a majority of her tasks done for her by the house elves. This had lead to her being a bit spoiled and sheltered to everyday life. She expects things to come easy and when she calls for it. When things don't happen to fit her normal way of life, it throws her pretty off kilter. She may not throw hissy fit, but internally, she is twitching a bit.

      INTELLECTUAL
You would think a spoiled little Pureblood princess would not really care too much in her studies. That is not entirely true with Ana. While she isn't a nose-in-book nerd, she does excel well when it comes to learning new information. When she finds her subject interesting, she'll put even more effort into her work. With not-so-gripping information, she tends to store it on a back burner and not really focus on it. It's still there and she will still comprehend it, but it is not her main priority.

spaceNath had been pretty impressed by the boat ride. Not by the boats, really, but by the giant squid. As he followed along with the other first years behind Professor Harlowe, he wondered if she was some sort of giant, or if she only seemed so large because they were all so short. He'd read about giants, of course, and he knew sometimes the bred with wizards... but he didn't think half-giants looked that normal, and thought they might typically be much larger. Maybe she was diluted enough to be weirdly tall, but not enough to be impossibly so, and had skipped out on the other genetic quirks. In any case, she seemed like some sort of vaguely inhuman thing to him. But, that might just be because, at this point, he was expecting there to be more than meets the eye to everything he saw.

spaceThat didn't quite stop his skeptical side from taking over when he saw the hat, though. Seriously? The thing looked like the prop from an old fantasy flick. He watched it with faint interest, and as the sorting began, observed the handful of classmates whose names came before his in the alphabet get 'sorted'. It was a neat trick, sure, but how was it done?

spaceWhen his own name was called, he stepped forward, weirdly eager to have the hat on his own head, for a firsthand experience. He had no preference for any one house, not really knowing enough about them to make a judgement. He would like to be sorted into the same house as one of the three kids he already knew, since he would at least have the benefit of, if not a friend, then at least a friendly face. But, apparently Theo, Galen, and Gabby all had surnames that came after his, so he'd have to hope for one or more of them to follow him, rather than wondering if he was suitable for the same house they'd been sorted into.

spaceAs soon as the hat was lowered over his head, he started directing thoughts at it, questioning how it worked and what sort of magic had been used to create it. It had to read minds, he reasoned. The song it'd sang implied as much, and how else would it be deciding where they went? Did it just acquire data like a computer, and spit out a response, or did it interact with the child? He'd seen it's... lips? moving faintly, when a couple of others had sat on the stool, and some of the students had taken longer than others. Talking to them? To itself? Assessing the data it collected? Asking preferences and opinions? Or a trick of the light? No, he'd seen it, he was sure.
'You can talk, right?' he asked, waiting curiously. Of course, it was doubtful he'd get much in the way of answers, since he imagined this was supposed to be a short interaction. Perhaps he could ask the professor about the hat, and study it more later? That would be pretty cool.

He's somewhat prone to playing the Devil's Advocate, not so much to change another person's mind, but to try and help them understand the other side. Rarely, if ever, is any one person absolutely in the right or wrong of any given situation, and that understanding helps him navigate through his life. He's more than willing to hear an argument against him, and will consider what is being said before making judgements. Of course, his rationality fails at times, and he's often blind to it, because from his perspective, he always considers logic before making decisions, so therefore he can't be wrong.

                                                          GEEKY
xxx»» For the most part, Nathaniel is a very quiet person. He prefers to listen in, and only speak when he has a point to make. But, once you get him on the topic of something he's interested in, his entire persona changes. He becomes exceptionally enthusiastic, and will prattle on and on about his interests. He consumes fandom content like a vacuum, delighting at arts of his favorite characters, song parodies, fan theories, you name it. He's easy to sway into liking most things, even if he plays the part of the critic at times, and once he's in, he's in for the long haul. Trends come and go, but he refuses to let go of anything he loves. He can be distracted by something new, but he will always hold onto his old interests, even if they're not at the forefront of his mind.

                                                          RESERVED
xxx»» Nath likes to keep his thoughts to himself, unless he has something he thinks needs to be said. He can come across to a stranger as being aloof, because he doesn't open up with others until he's comfortable with them. He thinks most people are generally decent enough, but that doesn't mean he's willing to run the risk of being hurt if someone has an exceptionally bad day and lashes out against him. He knows that being a good person doesn't mean you're perfect, and wants to know he can trust people and that they're like-minded before he lets them get to know him. He sometimes has difficulty in this regard, since not many people are willing to open up to someone who never shares about themselves. He's never been particularly popular as a result. For the most part, he doesn't mind, though sometimes he does get lonely.

                                                          STEADFAST
xxx»» Nath doesn't let go of things, he doesn't waffle, he doesn't waver. Part of the benefit of holding himself back initially is that by the time he commits, he knows he can commit fully and safely without much fear of the consequences. He doesn't give his trust or loyalty without it being earned, and so he feels confident that he's made a good investment. Once he's made that investment, be it in a person, a project, an event, whatever, he's not going to back out. He believes in seeing things through to the end. Getting him to drop an obviously doomed commitment is all but impossible. He can be swayed with facts and figures, but you'd better be prepared to present them, possibly in a power point. If the issue is one of emotions, appealing to his logical side can be either helpful, or make him dig his heels in deeper, depending on how it's framed.

                                                          KIND
xxx»» Nath believes firmly that the most important thing in life is to always be good to one another. He was raised that your life should be about making the lives of everyone around you better (though not to your own detriment). He smiles at strangers when they seem down, he compliments people as much as he can, any little thing he can do to make another person's day even a little better. When it comes to his friends and families, he loves nothing more than turning a bad day good, except maybe making a good day better (because he'd never wish for his loved ones to have a bad day).

spaceCeleste was not prone to anxiety, not really. She was afraid of one thing, and that was her father. He wasn't here, so there should have been no reason for her to be afraid. And yet, she could feel the fear bubbling up, skin paling slightly, eyes going wide. As she stood in the line waiting for her name to be called, she felt herself getting sick. A hand reached out to take hers, Sorin's, of course. Her brother frowned, eyes asking her what was wrong. She didn't know, she told him without words. She had no clue what was wrong. Not until her name was finally called, and she had to face her judgement.

space'Judgement,' she thought faintly, distantly. Her legs were too slow as she approached the stool. She was awaiting judgement. Awaiting her fate. Because she had no doubt that if this didn't go the way it was supposed to, she would be in a very dangerous situation. Her father already didn't care for her, and he thought she was everything she was supposed to be. If he should be proven wrong, if she were defective... She stumbled just before getting to the stool, to the hat. What if she was too much like what her brother was supposed to be? What if sitting in his lessons, doing the work so that he wouldn't have to, taking his place because he would be happier elsewhere, had undone her?

spaceCould she beg, she wondered as the hat was lowered. If she told the hat that failure was not an option, that it could have dire consequences, would it listen? Did it have morals, values, a sense of right and wrong? Could it make choices to protect the children whose fates it decided? Or would it place her where it thought she ought to go, regardless of if that fate it handed her would be her end?
'I'm not being dramatic,' she thought to it, desperate. Pleading. 'You can see that, can't you? You know I have reasons to be afraid.' She would be such a good Hufflepuff. She would! She was everything they were supposed to be! The other things about her, the things that were... less Hufflepuff-like, they weren't all-encompassing, right? 'Please, let me be safe.'

                                                          DEVOTED
xxx»» As horrible as it sounds, Celeste was raised to serve. Her family's old-fashioned sensibilities insist that a woman's lot in life is to support the men in their lives. While she at times questions the wisdom of this, she knows that, being only a child, it's not going to do her any good to argue. She also finds that it's quite useful to be loyal to people, because it often inspires loyalty in return. She would do anything for her brother, for her mother, for anyone she deems as worthy of her attention, even to her own detriment. She's generally able to get herself out of a tight spot, so she doesn't fear the repercussions if an attempt to help someone else goes south. She would hesitate at nothing that was asked of her, so long as the right person was doing the asking.

                                                          ASTUTE
xxx»» Being raised that Children Should Be Seen And Not Heard, Celeste didn't do much in the way of talking as a small child. Instead, she did a lot of watching. She observed people, observed events, observed the world in general. While she was rather sheltered as a child and her experiences are therefore limited, she's rather quick to assess a situation from a distance. She's clever, and generally speaking has good judgement. She can make snap decisions and generally trust that her instincts and previous experiences haven't let her down. Overall, she's rather clever, though she likes to keep this to herself.

                                                          CLEVER
xxx»» She is quick to think of inventive solutions to problems. When presented with the fact that her brother was doing poorly in his lessons, and didn't like attending them anyway, she offered to attend them in his stead, using her powers to take on his appearance. She can generally think and talk her way out of trouble, feigning innocence and ignorance until whoever has caught her ushers her away with a promise not to make the same mistake twice. She is adept at figuring out just what to say or do in any given situation, solving puzzles easily and recalling the oddest of seemingly innocuous bits of information in a conversation.

                                                          TIMID
xxx»» Celeste harbors a great fear of being in trouble, at least with one person. Her father, who can generally be expected to ignore her entirely, will at times very suddenly recall her existence simply to scold her over something small. Of all the people in her life, he is the only one who is never easy on her, and the punishments for trouble-making are severe. She would argue, in her mind, that most of the time the punishment greatly outweighs the crime. As such, she is hesitant to do anything that would attract his attention. If asked by her brother, she'll misbehave, but she is always quite careful about how she goes about it. She's rather quiet and unassuming, preferring to blend into the background. She's uncomfortable with attention being focused on her, and is quite content to stand behind her much more boisterous brother and let him do the talking for her.

                                                          COMPASSIONATE
xxx»» While there are few people in the world Celeste truly cares about, she has never been known to be cruel or unkind to anyone she meets. While she was raised in a family that believes itself to be superior to others, she personally sees that their superiority is simply a cosmic gift, not something that was earned. As such, she tries not to look down on those who are inferior to her. She believes in being kind to everyone, even if they don't necessarily deserve it. To earn even an unkind word from her requires quite a feat of cruelty on the part of another, and while she may harbor anger for some, she will never let it affect her own actions towards them.

                                                          DILIGENT
xxx»» Celeste believes in the value of perseverance and hard work. Once she commits to something, she is committed to see it through, no matter the outcome. Promises are sacred to her, and no matter how much trouble she has fulfilling them, she will stop at nothing to be sure she does. Nothing short of literal impossibility can prevent her from completing a task she has set for herself, and even then, it takes quite a bit of convincing to make her give in. She doesn't believe in leaving work unfinished, and finds laziness (in anyone but her brother) to be unacceptable. While she's not one who would generally take on hard work out of choice, she believes in doing what needs to be done. If that means helping with a task that should be beneath her, so be it.

spaceSorin realized too late what his sister was afraid of. He'd never considered it, but the slight trip was enough to make him realize. Of course she was afraid of the sorting. Unlike him, she had never been particularly favored by any of their elders. The eldest being female had been a tragedy to them all, and it was only by the grace of God that he'd been her twin, and not a much younger sibling. It was easy to lie, to say he was older, that he was the rightful heir in all ways. But they knew better, and it'd always showed in how Celeste was treated. His father had only wanted one child, a son, and instead he had two, and one was a girl. He couldn't be bothered with girls, or children at all really, but at least Sorin's existence was a necessity. Hers, on the other hand, inconsequential at best, a nuisance at worst. Their father almost always treated her like the latter.

spaceHe found he couldn't watch his sister's sorting. Eyes squeezed shut, he let his ears be distracted by any and everything. The inane chatter of his classmates and the roar of the older students below in the hall proper wouldn't have been enough, had he not refused to hear the hat. He almost didn't even hear his own name called moments later, and it took him a second to process that it was his turn.

spaceHe wasn't worried about his own sorting. Why should he be? If he was missorted, his family had no choice but to deal with it. He would be a disappointment, sure, but it wasn't as though his parents would go through the effort of having another child. No matter where he ended up, he was safe. He was the heir. Not getting Slytherin would be unpleasant, but he'd live. As he approached the stool, he found he couldn't look out into the crowd, to search for his sister. He was too afraid to see her in the wrong place. To furious at the thought of what might happen to her. Would she be safe in Ravenclaw? They could chalk it up to her brains, her cleverness. Say she was too smart for her own good. Perhaps that would be enough.

spaceHe was faintly aware of the hat being lowered onto his head. He didn't care what it had to say, really, though Slytherin was expected. He knew what he was like, he knew he fit the mold, more or less. Work smarter, not harder, that was his motto, that was the motto of his forefathers. You can't make an omelette without breaking a few eggs was another popular idiom around the household. Celeste was uncomfortable with those sorts of things. Sorin saw them for the necessary unpleasantness that they were. More to the point, he didn't care about hurting anyone, as long as his sister was safe. She was all he had, and all that really mattered. His parents and grandmother only appreciated what he was, not who he was. An heir, a boy to birth more heirs, to carry on the name and the blood and the legacy. He only cared about those things for the value of what they granted him, power. Power was nice. Power provided him protection for Celeste, the ability to give her anything she wanted. It also meant that, should he desire, he would never have to lift a finger of his own to do those things... Hmph. If he didn't get sorted into Slytherin, he might be concerned for the hat's sanity.

xxx»» Sorin was groomed from birth to be somebody important. The who, specifically, never much mattered, just as long as they were someone possessing power that his name demanded. As such, he has rather high expectations for himself, at least regarding where he'll end up. He assumes that his lack of specific goals won't hinder him, as he'll discover the answer once he gets to school, and discovers which areas he is already predisposed to. Choosing a field in which he has a natural talent, he assumes, will set him ahead of the curve, and make furthering his future career that much easier.

                                                          APATHETIC
xxx»» Generally speaking, he doesn't care about much of anything. He has his goals, of course, but the how and why in attaining them aren't important to him. Similarly, save his sister, he has almost no emotional reaction to people. His family inspires little in him, except a vague curiosity. Unlike his sister, a deeply caring person, he doesn't think he'd so much as bat an eye at the news that some horrible fate had befallen their mother or grandmother. His father, meanwhile, he might manage some emotional reaction to... but it would be one of glee, since his father's death would mean he inherited control of the estate. More importantly, it would save his sister all her worrying about what the man thinks of her or will do to her. Strangers are simply tools, once he will evaluate, and makes use of if he can. If not, he has no time for them.

                                                          MANIPULATIVE
xxx»» Sorin can be quite lazy; he dislikes making an effort towards anything that hasn't drawn his specific interest, and being that those things are few and far between, he rarely wants to indulge in much of anything. As such, he's become a master of manipulating his way out of almost any situation. He often takes advantage of his sister's giving nature, even getting her to use her metamorphamagus abilities to sit in on his lessons with their father for him, so that he doesn't have to. This, he insists, is only fair, because she actually enjoys the lessons. He's also adept at faking illness or injury to get his mother and grandmother to dote on him and leave tasks they would have requested of him to the family's house-elf. Even his father isn't immune to his machinations, having a soft spot for his only son that blinds him to the fact that he's being conned.

                                                          POLITE
xxx»» Sorin was raised to be a gentleman. Offending another person is the gravest sin he could ever commit, in spite of his apathy and manipulative nature. He doesn't care much for people, but he knows how he's supposed to treat them. He's quick with a kind word, and always acts with chivalry. He can be charming when it suits him, and he finds that it often does, as his apparent courteous nature makes him rather popular. It's easier to get his way when he is well-liked, and so he aspires to be as well-liked as possible. While he does harbor beliefs that he is superior to most everyone he meets, you would never know it from talking to him; he keeps all harsh judgements between himself, and his sister.

                                                          SPOILED
xxx»» Being the heir of an exceptionally old family, Sorin was doted on. His grandmother in particular adored him, taken with his resemblance to his grandfather. In his youth, he was given everything he ever wanted. As he grew older and the older Kinsleys attempted to reign him in, he made use of his manipulative nature to keep it going. Neither his mother, nor his grandmother, can bear to see him unhappy, so they are quick to fulfill any wish he has. His father, meanwhile, believes that, as the male heir, anything he wants is his due by default. Sorin's only vestige of generosity is that he will often take advantage of this to win things for his sister, who never received the same attention.

                                                          LOYAL
xxx»» This trait is reserved for one person in the world, and one only. Sorin would do anything for his sister, would move Heaven and Earth to keep her happy. While she is more than willing to accept others into her heart, and to give them her loyalty, he has none for anyone but her. He'll feign devotion to anyone she deems worthy, as he trusts her judgement implicitly, but at the end of the day, he wouldn't lift a finger for another person if he didn't know his sister would want him to. Still, Celeste's happiness is the most important thing to him. They share everything with one another, and they alone know the truth of the other.
