Mindy had gotten the kids settled in a story, not knowing about the crash Joel had gotten into. She read the story to the kids and soon enough it was time for most of the kids to be heading home. She got some kids ready while others she got into some other activities. She got Michael ready as well as she knew he got picked up around this time.

Joel's mother called the daycare, going to tell them that she was unable to pick Michael up today.

Mindy picked up the phone when it rang. "Will anyone else be picking him up?" She asked, writing on the notepad that Michael wasn't going to be piked up by his mother.

"Probably not, we have a family emergency," Joel's mother replied.  

[MandieRae]

Mindy was rather worried when Joel's mother mentioned the family emergency. "Alright. Would you like me to keep him here for a while? I can drive him home after the other children go home if you'd like." She suggested, writing down the reason and putting the note pad up.

"Yes, that'd be wonderful, thank you Mindy!" Joel's mother hung up.  

[MandieRae]

"You're very welcome." Mindy nodded with a sigh, hanging up the phone a moment later. "Hey Michael. I'm going to drive you home today, ok? You can to take off your coat and shoes and play a little longer." Mindy ruffled the boy's hair and helped him off with his jacket and sneakers.

Joel was in the hospital, and his father went home to tell Mindy where he was when she arrived.

About a half an hour later Mindy got Michael ready and drove him home. She got out of the car and walked him up to the door. Michael just opened the door and ran inside. "Hi. I'm just dropping Michael off." She nodded to Joel's father when she walked inside.

"Hey, Joel's in the hospital." he replied, "That's why we couldn't pick Michael up."  

[MandieRae]

"You're kidding!?!" Mindy really didn't wait for an answer on that before she was out the door and in her car, driving off to the hospital. She was really pushing the speed limit.

Joel was sitting in a hospital bed, watching soap operas.  

[MandieRae]

"I'm looking for Joel Marietta." Mindy said to the nurse at the door. She smiled when the nurse gave her a room number and she went upstairs to see him, going in his room. "Hey." She said, half calm as she stepped inside. "Are you alright?" She asked, shutting the door.

"Been better," he replied, grimacing. He had a broken arm and a broken nose.

Mindy nodded and walked over, sitting next to the bed in a chair. "What happened?" She asked, looking at the broken arm and nos he now had.
