Once upon a time...

Personality:
Hong might seem the most friendly and outgoing lion at first glance, yet this is not completely true. He speaks eloquently, carries himself with confidence, is mannered and is kind to others and is fast to welcome others and speak with them, even if it is but mundane chatter. While he does his best to help others, he's rather reserved about personal matters, and can at times be too much of a kind lion, in addition, his intelligence might be with lore and pride history, he's hardly smart when it comes to the judgments of others. Too trusting in his fellow pride members and hopefulness can blind him to possible deceit. His temper is not an overt thing with it rises from insult or misdeed, it is a slow boiling thing that festers under his fur and has him treat other curtly, and curb their freedom, happiness, and in general enjoyment in any way Hong sees able.

Overall, Hong is a rather humble lion, who has faith in others and enjoys the company of others. Even if he is at times, a very poor judge of character.

The Story:
Born to the south house, Hong grew up as a messenger as he began to work in the pride properly and never quite felt much for the way of romance. His mother was old, and Hong was of her last litter, her mate passed on and her children all but forgetting her. Hong was the one to tend to her and keep her well. He hoped to rise in rank, and perhaps help his mother in such a way. It was that as Hong was given his examination if he might be suited to become a Secretary of the house that another lioness found herself at the whims of a matchmaker. A beautiful young lioness who was being pushed by her parents to find a husband was willing to leave her fate not in the hands of the matchmaker, yet in the hands of the gods. A feather sent to the wind, the lion who it should fall to would be the lioness's husband.

If it was gods, luck or fate, the feather managed to find Hong and quickly, he was summoned to the lioness's father. The exchange was a quick one, and both father and daughter found Hong to be worthy and knew the gods had chosen well. Hong went home at his new step-father's urging to bring his ailing mother into the new home.

Such things did not go as planned. Hong's mother fell ill shortly before Hong arrived, and he could not move her in such a state. Panicking, he sought his twin brother to aid him in helping their ailing mother, until she would be well enough to travel, (even if such a short distance).

Hong's brother however, did not see his mother in need of help, but rather himself. His brother had gained rank and a new wife while he had remained as he was since he had first begun his work. The night before they were to set out to help their mother, Hong found a serpent trapped under a rock. A most curious thing, he freed the creature who slithered off into the brush. The young Secretary thought nothing of it.

Yet Hong's brother had no intention of helping their mother, not, of helping his brother. Bitter, he took Hong to the boarder and there, poisoned his kin.

Hong was left for dead, while his brother took his place, intimidating his wife and threatening her should she speak of the crime he had commit. She did not fear him, yet made plan to out him and have him cast out or killed for what she saw as the most heinous of crimes.

Yet on the outskirts of the lands, Hong was revived, how, he did not know, yet the poison in his veins had not killed him. He thanked the gods and made haste to find his mother and wife.

It did not take long, his mother found abandoned by his brother and forgotten. Taking his mother to his house with utmost secrecy he spoke to his father in law of the crime that had been done with a heavy heart, for crime that is was, his brother was still his brother. He begged them to allow his brother to live, even if it would be outside of the pride.

So it was that his twin was cast out, and Hong and his wife reunited. Though much time has passed since, Hong mourns for his brother's greed, and his mother too has since passed. Yet still Hong hopes for a brighter future.

So, this was very hard to do! Like, very very hard. ;; I wish I could give everyone pretty lions! But finally I've come down to the winners, and in one case even a runner-up!
