How the hell was she supposed to explain how the metal detector worked from a non-magical sense. Wasn't that common knowledge to people? " I... I mean, it's gotta have like some... sensors or somethin' in the thing to find metal in like dirt and s**t, right? " Oh crap. She had no clue how it worked 100%. All she knew was that you'd flip a button and the thing turned on! Nico stood and pondered for a bit to think about it until she heard Za'saad ask for Desi opinion. Right before her eyes, she saw that little sly smirk turn on her boy's face before agreeing with the silver-haired stranger. " Yeah. It's definitely gotta be magic, right? I mean, how else would it make sense, right Mama~ ?" Oh no! Desi turned against her!! And it looked like it did it on purpose too just to mess with her. Nico's face turned pink from embarrassment. Teased by her own flesh and blood! How could he! " W-Well how the hell is it magic then? Explain THAT! "

The look shared between the two of them were quite the sight to behold, pulling a chuckle from the mage as they took their separate stances on the matter. Nico was now officially outnumbered on her opinion but being a smart woman, she turned the argument around for them to explain. Za'saad raised a brow at her challenge, taking it with a bit of a smirk as he pondered for a moment. "I happen to know a thing or two about magic, but as far as explaining it..." He paused in thought, rubbing his chin for dramatic effect before rolling his shoulder back into a slight shrug. "- I guess I can't do that; but isn't that what makes it magic?"
Giving the two of them another soft chuckle, he shook his head gently. "In either case, I'm sure you'll enjoy the device, but it magic or science."
Taking a short look around then, Za'saad was genuinely curious for his next question. "Is it just the two of you today? Your husband is not here?"

Upon hearing Za'saad's answer, Nico gave out a slight chuckle and a bit of a smirk. " Heh, okay smart-a**. I guess you're right for now. " This man sure was strange, but at least he was entertaining. In her work profession, she dealt with a lot of weirdos and eccentric people that she knew how to handle herself in case things got out of control. So far, she didn't feel the need to get into an offensive position to protect her baby and herself. Although, Za'saad's next question did strike a bit of nerve with her. Her face gradually straightened out, losing her mischievous smirk from before. " It's just us. I don't have a husband and don't need one. " Nico replied in a bit of a snippy tone.
While she didn't care much about not having a partner, she knew for a fact that it bothered Desi. Poor kid was a curious little thing, so of course he wondered about who is father was. Nico never talked about it with him, and whenever he had brought it up, she'd divert the topic in question to something else. Already, she could see her son's face have a slight wash of disappointment. Reacting quickly, she put on her best smile and nudged her kid a bit playfully. " Hey, Desi. Do mama a favor and find me the biggest, prettiest thing you can find out here. If you find something, we can have dino nuggets for dinner... for the 100th time. " Instantly, the boy's eyes lit up and immediately he hopped up onto his feet and scurried about to fulfill his task. He'd do anything for those nuggets!
Once he was far enough, Nico turned her attention back on Za'saad with a bit of a frown. " Look, I know you didn't mean to bring that up, but at least try to be careful around the kid, okay? He might be young, but he's still pretty sore about not having another parent around. " She didn't care if the man had questioned her about it. However, whenever it was brought up around her son, it was a big pet peeve. There were plenty of times that Desi had came home from school crying because other kids teased him about it. As a mom, it hurts seeing your own kid like that.

The sudden change of mood wasn't expected but neither was it concerning to him - honestly he found her reaction rather common despite not understanding her fuzz. The look on Desi puzzled him though, if the father was lost then why not look sad? Perhaps they had moved on from the loss, but then why get defensive about it?
Za'saad pondered these things as Desi bunny-hopped away in a happy search for the next shimmering treasure. After smiling in the child’s direction he then turned his attention to the puffed up mother that almost gave him an earful.
"My condolences; loss is never easy, but it seems your son is handling it very well. After my father, my mother didn't want another husband either, she stayed faithful to him to the end" At least that's how he understood Nico’s situation. "I find it noble of you to honour him in such a way, and even more so at such a young age."
Looking back towards Desi, he let his smile drop a bit as he thought about everything. Sure, he had wished for a child, but now? Perhaps it was a mercy he never had one - he couldn't imagine the feeling that would haunt him, if he was worlds apart from the most precious thing in his life. At the same time, he wondered if his wife was alive and if she was staying faithful to him. But did he really care all that much?
"Do you ever miss him; your late husband?" He asked then, genuinely curious, as if she had the answers to questions he asked himself.

Maybe Za'saad didn't understand what she meant by "no husband". As he went on his whole tangent, praising her for being a loyal spouse, Nico couldn't help but laugh a bit. "I think you got the wrong idea, man. There's no loss if there never was a husband to begin with. " Pointing to her ring finger sans the wedding ring to prove a point. " If I was grieving for a husband, I would've still had the ring, right? I never got married. And... Desi doesn't know his dad, so just try to be careful when bringing that kind of stuff around. I've been doing this parenting thing all by myself. " Not to toot her own horn, but she felt like she was doing a fine damn job at it, too! At times, she felt like a lucky duck for being gifted with such a lovable kid.
Nico knew at times that Desi wondered about who his dad was, and honestly she felt bad for it. Sometimes, she felt like maybe she wasn't adequate enough. Looking back over in her kid's direction, she smiled as she watched him digging around in the dirt. Yeah, she definitely felt lucky to have him. Desmond was the bright light in her life for sure. Returning her gaze back to Za'saad, a tinge of curiosity glazed over her eyes. " What about you, Magic Man. Got a wife and kids back at home or somethin? "

Wait. Something stopped making sense here. He watched her show off her hand and fingers, as if that was to prove she was never bound in marriage to begin with - which was the first part of the confusion. Second came the whole thing about the child. Za'saad knew the process of making children, so how could she have made a child without the help of a man; a mere moment ago she was adamant on magic not being a thing? He stared at her in absolute confusion, every gear in his head turning to try and remove the question mark plastered to his forehead. There was only one conclusion for him to make.
He took a step back, hand to his heart, and bowed his head again. "Then you truly have my condolences. I must admit I thought all of you were barren and I cannot imagine what you've gone through.” He raised his head again, giving her a kind and soft smile. “To have no greater use than the pleasure of others must be devastating. This is the first time I've met a lady of the night with a child… I do hope you've been treated kindly in your time, you look quite fine for your profession. Other entertainers I've seen have not been as clean and well dressed."
Blinking a few times, stuck for a moment, he had to take a deep breath. "This is quite the shock to me. I knew this place was different but this is a whole world apart from what I've grown up with. You must be highly regarded to be so beautiful; I don’t hope you charge for this time talking with you, I’m pretty sure I can’t afford you."
Za'saad almost couldn't answer her question in return, but tried to shake the shocking realisation by clearing his throat. "Ah, yes. I am - or was - married, I don't really know anymore. She never let me touch her, so the process of children was never engaged… It's strange though, I was concerned for my bloodline, but after I was banished here I believe she might've spared me the sorrow of departure." Giving her a small smile, as if this had been the most average conversation, he still found himself puzzled by her situation. Having to work AND raise a child seemed like quite the challenge.

It finally looked like things began to click in Magic Man's head. It was so easy to tell how he was confused as hell and once it all came together, the next expression was priceless. Nico let out a hearty little chuckle before shaking her head at him. " Hehe, is it really that much of a shocker? I thought all places had their own little version of escorts? Well, it's not like I do it as much anymore - I switched over to dancing, but that's a little secret between you and me. Desi doesn't know and he won't." She always kept her job a secret from her kid simply because he was too young. He already didn't have a dad, so how would people look at him when they find out his mom's a stripper? It was a shitty thing to think about, but the truth was the truth. Maybe one day she'd actually find a job that's not so looked down upon or stigmatized. Until then, Nico had to do what she needed to make sure her baby was taken care of.
Speaking of the little devil... Trotting back with glee, covered in dirt head to toe, Desi returned with his hands hiding behind his back. " Mom! Mom! I think I won, I found somethin' really big and pretty. Close your eyes and hold your hands out! " The boy said excitedly. Doing as told, Nico shut her eyes with her hands held out for whatever he was gifting her. Instantly, something cold and slimey plopped into her palms. She tried to hide her disgusted face as best she could until Desi prompted her to open her eyes. When she did, all she had was a blank stare. There in her hands sat a large, bumpy toad that had a yellow colored eye and a blue one.
" U-Uh... Hey, kiddo... is this thing it? " She asked nervously as she could only stare back at the toad. Nodding excitedly as he bounced up and down, Desi laughed. " Yeah! It's eyes are really pretty, ain't it? Oh! Let's keep it! Can we, can we, can we~ ?" Nico knew he was dying for a pet, BUT THIS WAS NOT IT! She HATED frogs and toads. Ugh, just having it in her hands was starting to creep her out. " Absolutely not! I mean, doesn't it have like... giant bugs or somethin' to eat with it's family? T-Take it back. " In the midst of her talking, the giant thing croaked loudly and jumped right in her direction causing her to screech. The whole ordeal only made Desi laugh even harder until she shot a little look at him. " Do you want dino nuggets for dinner? Then take it back. " The child straightened up instantly and nodded with a little smirk. Grabbing the toad, he skipped away feeling accomplished. " Yes, ma'am~ "

Despite her unfortunate disposition, the woman was in great mood and kept on smiling at him, which relieved a portion of the sorrow he felt on her behalf. “There is I guess, though I’ve never met one quite like you - especially not with a child to look after as well.” Their situations were opposites and it felt nice conversing with someone of a different social group, expanding his otherwise narrow view. Here he was, thinking her life must be miserable, yet she seemed happy.
Well, happy might've been a strong word when the woman found herself with almost an armful of amphibian. Za'saad had to cover up his mouth to not laugh or chuckle in her face, but even with just the one eye, his amusement shone through as she squealed out her discomfort.
"It is a very beautiful specimen. Though, taking a creature from its natural habitat can be cruel and it likely will not be happy in captivity. Besides, if you keep it hidden from the world it'll never produce offspring that may grace the earth with more beauty." He noted, adding in his word of wisdom to aid the woman in peril. Though, whatever these dino-snacks were, Desi seemed to prioritize those over whichever living treasure he could find for the day. Watching as the kid bounced away again, Za'saad finally let an amused chuckle escape, lowering his hand to his side once more.
"You are fortunate to have such a lively young man. He seems curious about the world." Za'saad added, smiling at the woman. "A couple of years ago I would never have imagined to be envious of a woman such as yourself. Now I wonder how ignorant I may have been." Having no traditions to follow really broke down some of those prejudices fast it seemed.

Lively was an understatement in her opinion. This kid was just so curious and excited to see the world. As a mother, she only hoped that he stayed like that throughout his childhood and into his adulthood. Wiping her hands off on her jeans, Nico shuddered a bit in disgust as she watched the frog almost look back at her as Desi took off. " Oh, he did it on purpose! I know he did. " Hearing Za'saad's envious tone, Nico snickered a bit. " Kids are hard work, especially when you're by yourself. But it turns out good in the end. Or at least I can say that for myself. Half the time, I don't believe I deserve such a good kid like him, so I'm blessed~ "
Nico definitely was a proud mama! After having him, her life changed for the better. She stopped doing drugs, cut ties with almost all of her "friends" and did her best to provide Desi as much as possible. Yea, she was still a stripper and sometimes a sex worker, but almost all of that money went to support her kid. That was a lot better than supporting a drug addiction in her book! Looking back over to Za'saad, the raven headed woman gave him a playful nudge. " Hey, if you wanna talk to more degenerates, like myself, you should stop over at my job one day. I'm not really sure if it's your style, but there's booze and plenty of random people to talk to from all over Soleil. Heh, your first dance is on me, too! "

“Working hard for something is what makes it worth it, isn’t it?” he returned her comment, smiling as he did so and listened to her prideful explanation. Yes, he really was jealous. Bittersweetly so. Thinking about his bond with his own father, he knew the two of them rarely saw each other in his young years, and it would’ve been the same if he had a son. Za’saad didn’t even know if he’d ever really have a bond with the child, had he gained a daughter. Sighing lightly, he again switched his focus from the fleeing kid to the mother, this time because she offered him a night out.
“I’m unsure how well I can dance, but I will do my best to lead you, should I join you for an evening. I can, however, always figure out how to drink beer.” he said with an amused tone, having no idea what kind of ‘dancing’ she was referring to. He had seen some of the dancing types this world had to offer and it was quite a difference from the folk-like dances he was used to from his world. “Perhaps you can teach me.”
It was a rather chilly morning so far this day. But that didn't bother Alexis. The djinn smiled as he walked into the park. Looking through his text messages with a blush and a smile. He reached out to his crush Ozwald to meet up today. Today they decided to go for a jog and get coffee. Alexis huffed puffing his cheeks up. So he wasn't the most in shape person. He just wanted another excuse to see Oz again. Heaven's he had the biggest crush on him. So risking a super long jog(to him) to see Oz again was worth it! The djinn smiled as he sat on a bench and waited. Looking through the text history. Getting butterflies in his stomach again as he was getting even more excited. His little legs swinging back and forth as he sat on the bench. Texting Oz that he had made it to the park already.

The djinn smiled as he sent the text message. His iphone beeping as the message was sent. Okay so yeah, he's been sending more and more heart emojis and flirty emojis to Oz. But how couldn't he? Oz was just a super laid back and shy lovable giant. While Alexis was this big ball of fun that's barely past 5 foot. Huffing adorably the djinn reached up and adjusted his ponytail. Pulling it tighter as his water bottle sat in between his legs. It's decided, he's gonna hug him today. They've hugged before but it was an awkward hug. But that was in the past! The djinn lowered his arms down into his lap as he waited for his date, workout date to show.

Ozwald let out a sigh as he made his way to the park. He'd made plans with Alexis to jog in the park then get coffee afterwards, which he was pretty sure meant this was a date. It'd been a while since he got a good jog in, granted the last time involved running over roofs after a target. Though honestly he'd do whatever his crush wanted to do as long as he could spend time with him. He'd never felt like this with anyone, he didn't have time for romance in his old life since it was highly discouraged. Plus Alex managed to get him out of his comfort zone with his bright personality, which was really good for him. His phone buzzed in his pocket. Pulling it out he checked his messages and smiled, his pale cheeks flushing a light pink at the obvious flirtiness of the message.
On my way, and don't worry we won't get into the hard stuff.. for today at least.
He chuckled as he tucked his phone away and walked into the park, the cool breeze ruffling his admittedly messy hair. Good thing he remembered to wear a jacket. Quickly looking around for the benches it thankfully didn't take him too long especially because Alexis wasn't hard to spot what with his long hair and short stature. Normally such a thing would make Ozwald more self conscious about his height but he didn't really mind it with his cute crush. He grinned and jogged up to the bench. "Hey Alex! I didn't keep you waiting long did I?" he asked coming to a quick stop.

Alexis smiled as Oz texted him back. Why was he so giddy? He felt like he was back in high school having his first high school crush. Perfect he would be here in any second! Just as he put his phone down from reading the message the djinn he heard someone calling his name. Smiling to see it was Oz, he hopped off the bench and moved over to greet his date. "No not at all~ Hi, Oz" The djinn smiled as he stood nearly inches away from the taller male. Smiling up at him as they greeted one another. "I just got your text, read it and here you are. Not long at all, how was your trip getting here?" The djinn smiled to him tilting his head a bit. Just as he was about to speak again, a small breeze brushed past the two. Unfortunately he was wearing a crop top sweater. So the chilled air brushed over his skin. Causing him to tense up and scoot away as quick as possible. Of course he ended up scooting into Oz's chest. "S-sorry! Cold! I shouldve wore a longer sweater, huh?" The djinn laughed nervously as he stayed tucked into Oz's chest. Trying to keep safe from the cold breeze the was still passing by the two of them.

Ozwald chuckled and grinned. "Oh good, I would've hated to leave you waiting." he breathed out rubbing the back of his head. He blinked a few times not realizing how close he was when he sent the message. "Ah well I guess my long legs got me here faster than I thought. My trip was rather uneventful, it's been pretty quiet which I didn't really mind." he said tucking his hands into his pockets. Seeing the smile on Alexis' face warmed his heart. His eyes widened slightly as he noticed the smaller man getting closer to him. Once he bumped into his chest and mentioned that he was cold Ozwald was quick to unzip his jacket and placed it around Alex's shoulders. He also wrapped an arm around his shoulder keeping him close totally focused on keeping his crush warm. "Well yes but it's okay, I've worn clothes that I likely shouldn't have given the weather. You can wear my jacket, it might be a bit big on you but it'll definitely keep you warm. And I think your outfit looks nice even if it left you a bit chilly." His face flushed as he said that.
