Fianna Grey xxxxxxxxxxxxx Hannah Grey
Gryffindor Fifth Year xxxxxxxxxxxx Hufflepuff Seventh Year

Hannah and Fianna rushed onto the platform, just ahead of their parents. As was usual, Da got stuck with the task of getting their trunks onto the train, while the two girls carried their book bags and the cat carriers they had for their respective feline companions, which would ride with them in the compartment. "I thought for sure we'd be late," Fianna told her older sister, as they stepped onto the steadily filling up platform, and were comforted to see the gleaming red Hogwarts Express hadn't left without them.

The indigo-haired Seventh Year had considered simply Apparating to Hogsmeade, avoiding the whole press of people altogether, and getting a bit of extra sleep in, however, this was her last year, and she wanted to ride up with Emma and the others once more. There was also the matter of being a Prefect still, and needing to show up for the meeting on the train. Hannah even broke with her own tradition, and was already dressed in school clothes. "What are you worried about, Fi?" she chided her younger sister. "Afraid you might miss something for your OWLs?"

Fianna was dreading those tests as much as she looked forward to the coming Quidditch season. Thankfully, their cousin didn't subject them to her version of cram school this summer, as she had done to Hannah a couple summers previously. Of course, Linnie was a Cursebreaker for Gringotts these days, and had been gone on a job out of the country for months now, so that wasn't in the cards anyway. Still, Fianna located her cousin's study guides and poured over them at length over the summer, while her sister barely cracked a book, and Hannah had NEWTs to take.

"I missed seeing my friends over the summer," said Fianna, whom was somewhat disappointed she hadn't made Prefect, like her sister and her cousin had. "I just hope I can find someone to ride up to the school with." Hannah shrugged, inwardly lamenting she wouldn't be meeting up with Cora, as her friend graduated last term, and replied, "Don't worry, if all else fails, I'll make sure you ride with me, after the Prefect meeting, of course."

As they walked along, they saw a bunch of much younger students, and they looked about hoping to spot friendly faces...

I wonder why I get paranoid when I’m high
I wonder why I say yes to everyone in my life
I wonder why I can’t run that fast in my dreams
I wonder why I feel short when I know my money’s tall
I wonder why I miss everyone and I still don’t call

ﻬஐ Caty was apparated onto the platform along with her dad and brother as usual though mostly for her sake since Rhys could officially apparate. Honestly he could've taken them both and let her dad enjoy a sleep in but noo... Speaking of the man he was looking around at something while frantically trying to wipe the sleep crust from his eyes making her smirk. While she hadn't been there for the Big Night, she had heard enough to know that this Nirav guy had to be pretty special. So of course she had to poke fun at him about it. "I think that's him over there if he's who you're looking for." she jabbed him in the side with her finger causing him to jump a bit and blush at seeing the person of his affection just a few feet away. It was practically adorable. She looked the man over noting his rather odd color combinations (though really where was she to talk?) but thinking him handsome and nice looking enough before her eyes zeroed in on the young girl with him. Caty had heard that the man had a daughter and while she knew she shouldn't get too excited just from one non-failure of an accidental date, she couldn't help but grin wide at the thought of a younger sibling. She'd been the baby for pretty much all her life and she'd always wondered what it would be like to be the older sibling. Having her two best friends be younger than her had given her a small taste but it just hadn't been the same.

"You know since we saw them and they probably saw us it would be really rude not to go over and say hi, wouldn't it?" she rhetorically asked with a sly grin before starting to walk over towards the pair while her dad stammered and cursed behind her. When they made it over, Caty offered them both a grin and wave while Ciaran did the same only his a tad more sheepish along with a blush adorning his face. "Hello! I'm Caty and you probably already know my dad, we just wanted to come over and say hi!" she greeted excitedly. She was glad she had chosen her slightly normal looking attire with just her white bralet and denim skirt. It wasn't like she was showing porn amount of skin, the bralet was already large on her adding to the highwaisted skirt and she would have to practically bend over backwards for a slip of her belly to visibly be shown. "M-mornin' Nirav, t'is mus' be your daughter t'at your always talkin' abou'." Ciaran finally found his voice in order to also greet them while offering an amiable grin to Anandi. "I'm Ciaran by t'e by, an' i's very nice to mee' you." he told her before his daughter jump on the poor girl.

While Caty very much wanted to stay and get to know her possibly younger sibling, she realized that now was the time that firsties usually made most of their friends and that she'd hate herself if she managed to keep Anandi from doing so. "Sorry to jump in and out so randomly but I just wanted to say that you can totally count on me for anything you might have a question about to either answer it or find someone else who could. Also I have a very scary tall friend, you can prolly see him over there with the large scowl on his face, and if anyone is a priii-g, a prig to you or your friends you should totally use him as like a scare tactic. He's really nice deep deep inside just fyi." she hastily added with a grin and chuckle wondering how far Leon would try and punt her if he could hear how she was describing him to first years. "Butyeah! I'll probably see you on the train maybe and if I don't I'll probably definitely see you at school so uh, until then!" she gave Anandi another bright grin and wave before walking away leaving her father to apologize rather exasperatingly looking for her. She spotted Di and her sister heading towards Leon and his family and made her way with her stuff towards them and blinked at seeing the younger Warlowe do an about face and leave right before she got to the boys. Odd. "Hey guys! Di, is your sister alright? She looked real weird when she ran off."

Oh, you will see me thrive
Can't write my story
I'm beyond the archetype
I won't just conform
No matter how you shake my core

"Well I'm looking also for my friend Lauretta whos is same year as me but in Hufflepuff, or Gertie who is starting this year too." Hikaru said looking around but to no avail. "I'm not too worried though they are likely with other people too." He said stoping the search. "Oh I got something for you, Iwas hopeing to find you before the train would leave. Hang on..." He dug into his bag and pulled out a ice cream drumstick cones he had one without nuts as he was unsure if she had an allergy or something. He held it out to her to take. "My dad stuck a frezing charm on it so it won't melt. I got one for me too. I got it from the ice cream truck that goes by our house before we left." He said hoping she was ok with the basic flavor. He wanted to be sure she would like it.

Oh, ye of so little faith
Don't doubt it, don't doubt it
Victory is in your veins
You know it, you know it
And you will not negotiate
Just fight it, just fight it
And be transformed

It’s getting late, and I
Cannot seem to find my way home tonight
Feels like I am falling down a rabbit hole
Falling for forever, wonderfully wandering alone
What would my head be like
If not for my shoulders

Alby had been dreading this day since his nephew first gave signs of being a wizard; of course his parents thought it was wonderful that their darling perfect Adam would have someone at school so he wasn't alone while he would rather just jump onto the tracks of an impending train. Or push the eleven year old.

"Explain to me why I have to ride on the train with you?" Adam asked with a sniff looking at the crowds around them with disdain.

The Ravenclaw sighed and not for the first time hoped and prayed that the little snot wouldn't get sorted into his house. "Because your grandmother, my mother, was especially adamant that I make sure nothing happen to her ickle baby Adam." he snapped back rolling his eyes at the glare the little boy sent his way which was ruined by the flush on his face.

"You're just jealous Grandmother likes me best! From her own son no less!"

Again, Alby rolled his eyes having heard the same diatribe from the young idiot before, plus it wasn't like what he was saying wasn't true. Or hurtful. He'd long ago came to terms that he'd never be in his mother's top five favorite people. He'd be lucky if he got an honorable mention in her top twenty. The teen began scanning the crowd pointedly ignoring Adam trying to find any source of decent socialization and gave an audible sigh of relief when he spotted Mercy barreling her way out the barrier.

"I see a friend of mine so you have two choices: stay here and actually try to make friends or follow me and keep your mouth shut until we're on the train." It wouldn't matter which one he chose since he knew the preteen wouldn't actually follow directions. Predictably, the boy scowled and crossed his arms but made no movement to actually move away from his uncle letting him know he'd be following. So he pushed through the crowds until he managed to get to his friend and gave her what felt like his first smile in weeks. Probably was. "Hey Merc, how was your summer? Sorry I wasn't able to hang out as much like last year but um, I was sort of preoccupied with some stuff-"

"Why is your hair that shade of blue? Are you a metamorphagus or just a prat?" Of course Adam would think now would be a good time to add his two knuts. Alby merely muttered to himself "takes one to know one" before shooting his friend an apologetic look.

Or without your smile
May it follow you forever
May it never leave you
To sleep in the stone,
May we stay lost on our way home

Peter stomped through the barrier onto the platform ahead of his aunt and cousin, moving quickly to put as much distance between them as possible. He gritted his teeth and tried to ignore all the ridiculously joyful people crowded around, pushing his cart almost carelessly, and if he hit other people it wasn't his fault that they were in the way. What were they all laughing about anyway? Spending another year with their stupid friends and wasting away their precious time disturbing him? Bah!

When he reached the express, Peter wasted no time dragging his trunk into a compartment, aware of how ridiculous he looked struggling with it, which only soured his mood even more. Some child entered after him and opened his mouth, but Peter pushed past him roughly as he left, not even bothering to hear what the kid had to say and left the express to find himself a secluded corner to brood on his own.

It feels like I only go backwards, baby-
Every part of me says "go ahead".
I got my hopes up again, oh no, not again.
I know that you think, you sound,
Silly when you call my name...
But I hear it inside my head all day.
When I realize I'm just holding onto...
The hope that maybe your feelings don't show

FOURTH YEAR │ PUREBLOOD │ RAVENCLAW

Tiernan broke off from her sisters far more casually than she would have a few years ago after they came through the barrier- it wasn't as if she wouldn't see them quite often, anyhow. She spotted Glynn and Ivar rather easily, and made her way over to them with her usual placid expression. Glynn did not exactly look right as rain- then again, when did he ever look right as rain- but he certainly seemed slightly more at ease than in previous years. "Good morning gentlemen," she said sweetly, dark eyes glancing between them. "Your attitude seems vastly improved," she commented to Glynn, and then to Ivar, "I do hope you and Reyna aren't at odds anymore, it's such a drag when friends are fighting. My summer was horrifically dull- Mother and Father don't let me go anywhere, but I sneaked out with my sisters once or twice, so that was rather exciting." The brunette straightened the skirt of her green dress and peeked into the basket on one arm to coo at her snakes.

The seed of all this indecision isn't me, oh no,
'Cause I decided long ago.
But that's the way it seems to go when trying.
So hard to get to something real,
It feels like I only go backwards, darling,
Every part of me says "go ahead".
I got my hopes up again, oh no... not again.
Feels like we only go backwards, darlin'.

Byuch strolled through the platform, trying to find Tree Trunk. Honestly, for someone that's so damn tall, why the heck was it so hard to find Chance? Ugh, he was probably being friendly with Flower Petal. He pulled a sucker from his mouth and poppoed it back in, green eyes staring around. This was so stupid. Why was he even going to a wizard school anyway? He knew his mum and uncle had told him that it was because he needed to go, but he really didn't want to be going to begin with.

Snorting, he ducked around another kid before he saw someone shove through the crowd to the train. Blinking, the half-goblin decided to follow behind, figuring he could find Tree Trunk sometime later. He watched the kid grumpily tuck his trunk onto the train before turning to retreat into a corner. Byuch crossed his arms, considering his options before approaching himself. If nothing else, he was pretty confident the older kid couldn't catch him if things went south.
"So, do you regularly shove people around, or was that wizard kid just asking for it?" Not like he particularly cared if the guy was being a bully. Byuch was just marking him for later just in case he had to beat a hasty retreat at some point.

Of course, she wasn't fooled and just shook her head. "Just because you don't like your cousin doesn't mean you should treat him so badly." Rey rolled her eyes. "You don't like him either, you called him a brat," she pointed out accusingly. "That's beside the point. And I don't make my feelings obvious." Rey sighed but didn't say anything else. She hugged her mum goodbye and crossed the barrier into the platform. She began to look for her friends and almost immediately saw Tiernan, Ivar and Glynn talking together. She joined them just in time to hear Tiernan talk about her summer. "Hello everyone," she greeted them all with a smile. She noticed Glynn seemed, not better exactly, but certainly more aware and alive than he was the last couple of years. She didn't know what had happened but wasn't going to risk having him go back to that state so soon. "That's terrible Tiernan, but at least you managed to enjoy it occasionally," she said sympathetically. "I had fun in the summer with Ivar, but now we have to go back to classes," she said with a groan. Last year, Rey took a lot of electives, thinking she could handle them, but it turned out to be almost too much for her to handle, but she was too stubborn to drop any yet.

Not even a minute passed in peace before Peter's time alone was interrupted, not even a minute. Incensed, he stood up and stared down at the kid who decided that this moment was perfect to open his big mouth, which wasn;t hard considering his diminutive size and Peter's own growth spurt. "What's it to you, you little midget?" he snapped him, raising an eyebrow at the probable first year's appearance. "Don't tell me they're letting trolls into this thrice-damned school now are they?" That was going too far—blind charity cases, mentally challenged twits and now some deformed creature? When would they transform the school into something more civilised? "You better mind your own business and get back to whatever swamp you've managed to drag yourself out of, you're not welcome here." Peter hissed in a low voice, poking the boy's shoulder with his finger hard. He wasn't afraid of any retaliation from him, especially since he was the one with the size advantage.

Byuch cocked an eyebrow at the wizard kid, not impressed with his attitude. Honestly, hadn't the human ever heard of a goblin before? He rolled his eyes and pulled his sucker out of his mouth before speaking, casting a lazy eye over the taller teen. "Goblin. Not midget, not troll. You might wanna know the difference there, human." Now he realized just why he appreciated Chance's company so much. He never thought Tree Trunk would ever insult him by calling him a troll before. That was like a smack in the face of even the slowest goblin.

He shrugged at the kid's demand that he get back to whatever swamp he crawled out of, shaking his head as he twirled the sucker around between two fingers and ignoring the jabbing finger. If that kid did it again, he was going to bite those fingers and no one could hold him guilty.
"I dunno about going back to a swamp, but I won't deny the school's thrice-damned. Sadly, I'm being made to go to your stupid wizard school." He rolled his eyes again, convinced the kid was mentally deficient, even for a wizard. Maybe he should have gone looking for Tree Trunk and Flower Petal instead? He would have had a better conversation than this, obviously.

Brandon walked through the barrier, following his sister after she had entered after Leon and his brother. He'd ended up staying the summer over at Michael's house since the disastrous events at the start of the break, and he realized just how much he really missed the farm his parents owned. He hadn't realized how surreal the summer had become until he was faced with going back to Hogwarts and the inevitable questions that were likely to follow. There weren't that many Davenports in the wizarding world, and considering everything that had happened, he knew there were going to be people that were going to be offering condolences or something.

He watched his sister escape into the crowd, thinking that she just wanted to get away from the whole scene with Leon, and couldn't really blame her if she had. After all, he actually wanted to punch Leon himself for what happened, but realized that wasn't going to solve anything. Instead, he mostly tried to avoid Leon as much as he could. Not that that was hard, really. The house was big enough, though he ended up sleeping on the couch more than anything when Michael got back from the hospital. His sister had taken the guest room, which Michael had talked about making into her room considering the circumstances. Michael had yet to go through his parents' things to get them moved elsewhere, and Brandon himself was apprehensive of going back home and doing the same for his parents.

Brandon decided that for the time being, the best thing for him to do was just get away from Leon, even if he could see Di and Caty already approaching to talk to the blond. Instead, he headed a bit away to deposit his trunk on the train. Maybe he could spot Colin somewhere in the crowd and see how he was holding up. Brandon had only been hit with a crucio. Colin had actually lost an arm over the whole mess. Hopefully Brandon hadn't completely screwed up and managed to mangle his friend worse when he'd tried to keep him from dying. He doubted it, from what he'd heard. Still, the possibility was there.

Did he think that was much better? "Goblin, troll, doesn't seem to be a great difference to me," Peter sneered. "You're a malformed turd for all I care." Why were they even trying to integrate the freaks anyway? It wasn't like they did anything other than to demonstrate how 'progressive' this place was. He was surprised when the boy turned out to share his disdain for Hogwarts, but his attitude only increased Peter's irritation. "In that case, why don't you just leave and save us all the trouble? It's not like you belong, so don't even bother trying. We don't need your kind muddying up the place more than it already is."

spaceColin, for one, was actually sort of glad to be going back to school. The summer had been a disaster, to say the least. Actually, he was pretty sure that was the understatement of the century, considering what all had happened. But, it was in the past, and nothing could change it, so he figured disaster was a decent summation, if lacking in detail and weight. The remainder of the holiday had been fine, really! Except the fact that he'd had to deal with his parents fussing over him constantly, freaking out about his arm, getting fitted for a prosthetic, his mum fidgeting while working on making him said prosthetic, and then having to deal with beta testing the thing to make sure it worked as well as could be expected with current technology. And then there was the fact that his ultra high tech arm wouldn't work at school, and his Mum was beside herself with the idea that he'd have to either be armless, or wear an old-fashioned, useless only for giving the appearance of having an arm and nothing else prosthetic. Luckily, Balder's mum had helped his parents sort through finding a metal charmer, who had been able to enchant a suitable replacement for him. Of course, he was inclined to use the enchanted one exclusively for simplicity's sake, but he worried that it would qualify as breaching the Statue of Secrecy... research would have to be done.

spaceAs he waded through the crowd, he tried to locate his friends. He spotted a small group of them easily enough, but Leon's presence made him hesitate. Things were still pretty awkward between him and Brandon (he was pretty sure calling that one an understatement was in and of itself an understatement), and he wasn't going to ditch his best mate for Leon. If the Slytherin had been alone, he might've had a small crisis figuring that one out, but he wasn't; Caty and Di were with him, so that was probably all good. He was sort of sad he wouldn't get to show Di his arm, since he figured she'd think it was cool, but he could always do that at the feast. He continued to scan the crowd, eventually spotting Brandon.

spaceHe changed direction slightly to catch up to the brunette, waving as he drew nearer. "Brandon! Hey!" He slid up beside the taller boy, smiling. Brandon was having a rough go, he knew. He'd lost an arm, no big deal, that could be replaced (and had been, rather epically if he did say so himself). Brandon had lost his parents, which was horrible. He supposed technically, parents could be replaced too, via adoption, but that wasn't anywhere close to the same thing as getting a new limb to replace one that'd been hacked off with dark magic. Parents couldn't really be replaced, only... well. There wasn't exactly a better word for it, he supposed. But anyone who came along to fill the position would be found lacking, he was sure, unless someone's parents were especially horrible, which Brandon's had not been.

spaceColin studied his friend, noting that he didn't seem to be in a terrible mood, or a good one. He seemed rather neutral, though skewed slightly more towards the negative than the positive. Which was expected. Colin used his teeth to pull his shirt sleeve up, revealing his arm, figuring if nothing else, showing it off would give them something to talk about. Colin was pretty sure it was a sore subject, but so would most anything else be. Talking about animals would suck, because his father had been a vet. Asking about the holiday was a no go, since they'd almost died, Brandon's parents had, and he'd been stuck with Leon for the remainder. And he wasn't sure if Brandon had kept up with any shows or movies or anything, what with dealing with the moving and the funerals and all that. Arm was better than nothing. And it was pretty cool. "Check it out!" Colin said, more excited than probably appropriate. He had lost a limb, after all. "Mrs. Borson helped my parents find this guy, Mum and I drew up some basic design sketches and the guy made it and enchanted it to work like a normal arm. Isn't it wicked?" There had been some thought on his mother's part that perhaps they should try to use magic to make it look more like a normal arm (she'd wanted to use a synthetic covering for the same reason on his electronic one), but he'd have none of it. He'd spent years wearing a fake cosplay arm just like it, why the hell would he want to cover it up now that it was real?

You fall through the trees,
And you pray with your knees on the ground.
For the things that you need...
With your lust and your greed weighing down.
And you weaken your love,
And you hold it above your head.
Success is a song of the heart, not a song of your bed!

Donella prided herself on many things, and chief among them was her patience. She did not whine, or fidget, or demand. She'd never really had a chance to, since her parents didn't tolerate those things, unlike the rest of their generation, she thought archly, as rants about the permissive parenting style of their peers was frequent in the Brown household. However, she thought she should be especially commended today, when she was so close to finally escaping the comfortable nest of her family. She loved her brother, and she respected her parents, but they could be a bit... smothering at times. Dad at least was often out from sunup to sundown, except in the winter months, but Mam worked from home, and good lord, could she be... overbearing, Donella diplomatically settled on, even in the sanctity of her own mind. She had no proof her mother could read minds, but she wasn't about to chance it.

Mam was the one to see her onto the train, as she'd said her goodbyes to Dad and Billy at breakfast this morning. Donella had held out some hope that perhaps after seeing her through the barrier, her mother would take her leave. Oh no. "Mam," she said, "I know you want to stay here until the train leaves, but I... I do think I see Diantha, and she is a prefect, so I know she could take me under her wing...,"

Glenys Brown was regarding her daughter with the suspicion judges usually reserved for the most heinous of felons. "Nellie," she said crisply. "I don't appreciate your attempts to scoot right out from under my nose. Honestly, if you want to speak with your cousin so badly, of course we can go over and say hello... so long as that girl isn't lurking around somewhere. Really, just the sight of her- I doubt my parents," her tone turned slightly acidic here, "Have managed to straighten her out."

"I'm not going to associate much with Treva, Mam. She's never been anything but rude and... and plain nasty in general," Donella interjected hurriedly. "But I'd like to find someone to sit with on the train, and- and it's just that most of the other parents are leaving-,"

"Do I look like most of the other parents?" Glenys demanded.

"No, Mam," Donella murmured dutifully, but did try to focus her blue eyes on her mother pleadingly. The blonde, sun-weathered woman sighed, and put her hands on her daughter's shoulders, face softening somewhat.

"Alright. I trust you. Go on, then. You will write every weekend, blossom?"

The girl flushed at the nickname, but nodded, and kissed her mother on the cheek, getting her flaxen hair ruffled in return, before wheeling her trolley into the crowd, half-expecting to be called back at any moment, but it didn't come, and when she glanced back, the crowd had swallowed the woman from view. Due to her distraction, she promptly bumped someone with the trolley, and whipped her had back round to apologize. The victim was a fellow first year, a girl with blonde hair maybe a shade or so lighter than her own, and greenish eyes. "I'm awfully sorry," said Donella, quite genuinely. "I wasn't looking where I was going." She extended her hand without a moment's hesitation. "Donella Brown, how do you do?"

And we all still die, yeah, we all still die-
What will you leave behind, oh, we all still die...
Marching away from the stream;
This tree, it will die without leaves.
This tree, it will die, this tree, it will die.
And we all still die, yeah, we all still die-
What will you leave behind, oh, we all still die...

Byuch snorted. Really, if snyone could be called malformed, it had to be the human with the perpetual stinkbomb under his nose. "I'd suggest not going anywhere Gringotts then for you. No wait, actually, please do. Pretty sure the moment you open your mouth, you'd get kicked out of the bank so fast that your malformed arse would leave a skidmark from it to muggle London. Then again, that might make you look better." He smirked, his sharp teeth glinting as he shook his head at the teen. Yeah, Chance and Chrysanthemum were definitely better people than this arsehat was.

When the other kid stated he should just leave, Byuch snorted. His kind? Didn't he read a lot of history about his kind? Byuch could definitely prove just why his kind were the ones that led some of the bloodiest rebellions against wizards in history.
"I'm sorry, I don't see my kind trampling over the rights of every other creature in existence. Not like wizards. Weren't you lot the ones that had the crazies that murdered a ton of your own people all because they wanted to get rid of undesirables, or was that my imagination? Don't try to tell me where I'm supposed to be, human." Honestly, the temptation to bite the offending wizard was growing stronger by the minute. How the hell did his dad deal with wizards again? Oh yeah, he charged them exorbitant fees for everything when they pissed him off. Too bad he couldn't do the same. He doubted the human even had enough brainpower to figure out when he was getting fleeced for every knut he owned.
