I'm not exactly sure how it works, but the lower your hyperdrive class number, the faster. Most military ships are Class 1, and civilian ships Class 2 or 3. The
Falcon is Class .5, and saying ".5 past lightspeed" is just vernacular - shorthand slang that isn't really accurate terminology.
