Pride or Rouge? Rogue.
Prompt Number: 1 & 2
Prompt Response: Hala watched all the preparations going on around her with half closed eyes, laying flat on the ground with her chin between her paws. She wasn't sure what to make of it all. This was a day she knew was coming. But up until now, it had been a day in the future. Something to worry about later. Now, she was realizing, later had a way of sneaking up on you. She had avoided the decision for so long. The time had come to make it. She also found she still wasn't quite ready to make it. To leave with her father and live a life she knew she'd hate. Or stay in the roguelands, all alone, with only half or perhaps none of her family. The thought was a scary one to someone still so young in the ways of the world. Someone who always had others around them. If she went back, even when she left her father's side, she'd still be near him and all the other unknown members of her huge kin. But she would be unhappy. So very unhappy. She knew she didn't want to be some lion's property. Just his status symbol.
Just as she was now. Just as she would be if she stayed where she was and watched those she loved walk away from her. Why could there not be an obvious answer to this situation? Why had she put it off for so long?
Heaving a great sigh, Hala rose her head from between her paws, getting up to walk away from her family for some alone time. She needed some time alone to think. And get away from the sight of her father for the moment. So many emotions were going through her head. For one, there was the obvious confusion over what to do. What was right for her? What would her mother have wanted? Would she approve of a little Banu of hers diserting her family and pride for a life of freedom? Or would she have wanted her little one to be happy? Hala liked to think it was the second. From what she knew about the lioness she barely remembered, she didn't think Tsubame would want her unhappy. Hala would be so unhappy there.
Nor would she be able to bring herself to visit. Afraid of some Pad snatching her up on the spot. She wouldn't be able to risk the chance, just to catch a glimpse of her family.
Hala plopped her butt down in a patch of grass, her eyes down on her pale blue paws. There were mixed emoitons over the mountain patterned lion taking her away at such a young age to grow up in the dangers of the roguelands. Should she be grateful for him allowing her to see the truth about herself before she made a fool of him and herself in the pride? Should she be bitter and angry that he allowed his children from his beloved Beybanu to grow up in such dangers?
Or should she feel sorry that he lost his love in the first place? Truthfully, she felt all three. Anger. Forgiveness. And sympathy. She had been both lucky and unfortunate not to have known her mother enough. She couldn't imagine how hard it had been, and still is, on him. No, that was a lie. She had a small idea. Just the thought of being left behind had a lump forming in her throat. It escaped as a little sob that she quickly wiped away with one paw.
There was nothing more to do about it. If she stayed where she was, sitting in the dirt and trying not to cry, she had a chance at a happy life. Instead of forever being chained to an unknown male, possibly treated like a slave.
And there it was. The decision. It came so quickly, Hala was left blinking her eyes in confusion. Turning her head to look over her shoulder, she watched her family for a moment before turning around and clearing her throat.
"Papa. I want to say something..."
