Personality:
Merlin was born within the Camelot to a high-born lioness and the god of egotism, Rama. The lioness was so disgusted with herself, and her resulting offspring, that she gathered her newborn litter and slipped away to the great lake dividing Camelot from the Woads. Luck, or fate perhaps, was on Merlin’s side. He was the last to be raised to the water and just at that moment, the archdruid of the Woads was happening by. Later on, Melin would discover that the archdruid had a vision regarding that very event. The lioness was stopped and the cub was spared. Unfortunately, due to the gravity of her crime, the lioness was later put to death within her own pride.
Merlin was raised a Woad and taught to hone in on his seer-abilities and understand the visions he would receive. He was a crafty youth and even those closest to him could never tell if he was a sinner or a saint. When his mentor passed away, Merlin became the archdruid of the woads, working alongside his childhood companion, Nimue.
He’s still a young lion but he carries himself with a sagely wisdom and delights in speaking in cryptic riddles. He always seems to have his paws in everything and leads many to believe he knows more than he actually does.
Plots?
- Merlin will eventually find young Arthur, saved from the very same fate as his elderly mentor had saved him from. Rather than raise Arthur to become a Woad, he'll instead raise him within the Woads to become the ruler of Camelot in hopes of uniting the factions of Tintagel.
- Lots of backlogged rp as a youngin' with the other Woads.
- Hostile encounters with lions from Camelot.

The Woads were the original inhabitants of the area. At one time the Woads were divided into a multitude of clans each with their own leaders and traditions. However, a common enemy brought the clans together. They suffered a crushing defeat and were given only a portion of their homeland to remain on. They were forced to live with one another and pick up the shattered remains of their ways.
☼ Religion ☼
The Woads aknowlege all the gods but they worship gods of physical things rather than gods holding domain over ideals. Gods like water, crocodiles, etc. are gods that they worship. Gods that hold domains over things like truth, deception, etc. are acknowledged but they’ll find no praise from the pride.
Laws of the Woad:
◘ Fear the gods and maintain their following.
◘ Respect the gifts of the gods, be them for ill or good. The gods’ will governs us all.
◘ Murder is absolutely not allowed. There is a difference between battle and honorable combat and killing in cold blood.
◘ Rape is not allowed. Any new life should come along respectfully.
◘ Stealing from the Woads is forbidden.
♥ Mating ♥
The Woads are a little more lax in the ways of love. They do have some standards, but not many.
○ Only males and females may mate. The point of mating, after all, is to bring new life into the pride and honor the cycle of life that dictates all.
○ Relationships with juveniles and cubs is strictly forbidden but adolescents and adults are free to start families and mate with one another.
○ Incest is still not allowed. The point of mating is to bring in new life, new blood.
○ Breeding between lions and non-lion felines is fine, but mating between non-felines is absolutely not allowed. Hybrids are accepted, but there is a stigma against them for their inability to breed. There may be a few that still resent this type of relationship.
○ Marriage is still a part of the pride but cubs born out of wedlock are not punished. If an adulterous situation happens the parents are publicly humiliated.
♦ Cultural Information ♦
Gender Roles:
The Woads have very little concern with gender. They care more for the ability, the cunning, and the ambition of an individual than they do a gender. Females can obtain any rank of a male and are sometimes even regarded higher than a male is. They tend to be far more cunning and they‘re the mothers of the pride.
Positions on Seers:
Seers within the Woads are honored and embraced. The blessing of a seer-ability is seen as just that- a blessing. Whether by a god that stands for a good domain, a dark domain, or a neutral domain- the gift can be used to further the Woads somehow. Afterall, light can’t exist without darkness or darkness cannot exist without the light. Most seers are given higher ranks within the pride.
Non-Lions and Hybrids:
Unfortunately, there is a stigma against non-lions and hybrids. It is very, very rare for the pride to accept a non-lion within the pride and it's even rarer for them to allow a lion to create hybrids. They see it as an unproductive way of conducting romance and, in the end, makes it difficult to boost numbers.
Rituals:
○ Solstice celebrations:
The Woads mark their years by the solstice days. The summer solstice brings with it the sun and the drought and the winter brings the rains and life. During the solstice a sacrifice is implemented. Often times, the sacrifice is a prey beast given up and left for the god to devour. During the summer solstice, this is given in hopes that there will be water and food enough for the pride. In the raining season, it is given to thank the gods for their bounty.
○ Forgiveness Tribute:
This is a very, very, very, VERY rare occurrence but it does happen. When a member of the Woads commit’s a terrible crime (such as murder or rape) the offender can be sacrificed to the gods to pacify their fury and spare the rest of the pride from the god’s wrath.
