Very, VERY rarely do I ever feel like I can't get enough of a class. I can't get enough of Creative Writing. I ******** love poetry. o-o I like learning about the meter, the feet, anapestic poetry, villanelles, iambic pentameters, rhythm... I MUST ABSORB MORE.
And out of all of them, I love villanelles the most.
You know how when summer is beginning you get that feeling? Not an emotion, sensation, thought... but a feeling. It's like everything combined. That's what I'm trying to get across. Not summer specifically, but that.. that concept.
Sweet and Light
Legs tingle against the hayfield
Milkweed bright
Child's eyes wide in fright
Insects don't yield
Sweet and Light
Soft and glowing, it burns through the night
Once used; healed
Milkweed bright
No glory; no trophies; no spotlight
Legs on legs, chirping and kneeled
Sweet and Light
Taste savored lusciously, it's just right
Stems broken and leaves peeled
Milkweed bright
When all is over with and the moon alight
Sensation and experience all revealed
Sweet and light
Milkweed bright
You see, the first stanza has line 1 and line 3 which are their own refrains (1 and 2). They have rhyme scheme a. The 2nd line in the first stanza is rhyme scheme b. In this type of poem, there are only 2 kinds of rhyme scheme For this specific example, it is -eeld sounds (b) and -ight sounds (a). Then the second and fourth stanzas ends with refrain 1, while the third and fifth stanzas end with refrain 2. The rhyming pattern is continued aba aba aba etc... Until the last stanza which ends with refrain 1 and refrain 2, and has the rhyme scheme abaa.
