Not that Maisie was likely to be a hardarse of a captain or anything, but she'd hate to get reprimanded for being a poor example for the younger students or something. Mostly because in Quidditch, reprimands usually translated to bench time. She had utterly no desire to warm any benches. Huffing, she took a form from the older girl and filled it out, rather quickly and messily.

Maisie clapped her hands together with as much enthusiasm as she could muster. "Okay, let's get tryouts started!" she announced loudly. She really didn't want to have to shout. "For those of you who are new, I'm Maisie Thorburn, the captain. Nico Lovette is my VC. We're going to separate into two teams: blue and bronze. Blue Team will have Nico as Keeper, Loke as Seeker, Iggy and Brook as Chasers, and Aidene and Jonah as beaters.Bronze Team will have Benjamin as Keeper, Sonora as Seeker, Lavinia and Canaan as Chasers, and Lillith and Charley as Beaters. I know not everyone is in their first choice position, but hopefully we'll have time for a second round and I'll be able to switch people around," she said, somewhat breathless after her long spiel. Why was this so nerve-wracking? She probably worried too much about disappointing people. "Beaters, please don't aim at the seekers for the time being. Now we'll do three laps around the pitch, and then start." Once that was done, she released the snitch and the bludgers, and then threw up the quaffle for the chasers.

Loke stood up straight as he heard Maisie start tryouts. Rules were simple enough, and Loke nodded before he went up into the air, ready to get his laps in. Once he finished, he waited for the balls to be released before starting to look for the snitch.

"Hello Aidene," Lavinia greeted her roommate. "Would join Dueling if first years could participate. Next year though, I'll be there." She told her with a smile. "Haven't seen Emma around and I don't think any of the boys made it. Goldwind didn't seem the type so I don't think he'll show." She answered.
By that point captain Thorburn took to addressing the group. Lavinia listened to the team instructions as she didn't want to go messing anything up. Looked like she'd be against Brook and Aidene in this team matchups. "Good luck." She said to them before getting to her laps. 'Time to make a good impression.' She thought as she finished her laps and got into the air. One of the older boys went for the quaffle and Lavinia followed suit. Time to see what she'd got.

”What!” Aidene was surprised to hear that first years couldn’t join the Dueling club. Disheartening, definitely. She wondered if it was a hard rule or just a recommendation. Lavinia mentioned that Goldwind didn’t seem the Quidditch type, and Aidene shrugged in partial agreement. Too soon to know. She’d have to figure out what else Goldwind liked. Aidene was about to ask more about the first year dueling ban, but Team Captain Maisie was calling them to attention.
Aidene whirled around to flash Jonah a grin when she heard she’d be a beater on his team. She gave Lavinia a thumbs up in reply ”Good luck, have fun,” she replied before taking off for her laps.
Once the balls were in the air, Aidene hoisted her bat and looked for a bludger and a target. Awareness in protection, Strategy in aim, technique in excu-- She noticed Lavinia win the quaffle toss up and cheered for a moment before remembering they were on opposing teams. It sucked, but the game demanded she play her best. As a bludger neared, Aidene swung, aiming the bludger towards Lavinia.
Her timing was a little off though, and the bat connected with nothing but air as the bludger collided with her arm. She yelped, the bludger hurting a lot more than she expected, and glared as it raced off.

Brook was on the same team as Aidene, perfect. And Iggy and Jonah. This was good. She took off, cursing herself for missing the first throw of the quaffle. If it hadn't been for that butterfly.... now she had to try to steal it.

Jonah returned Aidene’s excitement to be on the same team with a quick pat to the shoulder and a warning of “Better brace yourself, Kid.” before hopping on his broom and swiftly completing his laps. Once the balls were freed he was surprised to see a first year beat out Iggy to the quaffle, and snickered when Aidene was smacked with the bludger. Her reaction reminded him of himself when he’d first started quidditch. “I told you to brace yourself.”
He sped over to the bludger that had hit her and opting to test the current strength in his left arm, he took a swing aiming towards Lavinia. Or at least that's what he'd meant to do. Clearly left wasn't the best idea, because he'd managed to miss and get smacked by the bludger himself.

spaceShe might've thought Maisie's directive about not aiming at seekers was specifically intended for her, if she didn't know that was the tried and true strategy of basically every beater in the school. She did tend to dog the seekers a little more... well, doggedly, than some, though. But, it wasn't like she was incapable of hitting anyone else. Case in point, she could definitely hit Jonah. Or, try to, anyway. She hunted down a bludger and aimed it at her usual partner.
