Njalo's Entry Contest Entry! SoA Name: Njalo'sasa Name Meaning: Always Happy Old or New Lines? Old Lines Description: White lioness with a saddle of color that starts out a dark inky hue towards her face and then turns to a bright golden color towards her rump. Freckles splash her nose and her inner ear and nose are a softer shade than the rest of her dark features. A crescent shape marks her chest along with "eye spots" on her forelegs and dark colored toes. Her hind legs have far lighter golden splash marks on her hocks and the same hue on her toes. Her mane and tail both have streaks from the opposite end (i.e. forelock is dark but has golden streaks and tail is golden but has dark streaks). There's the typical Bongo "exclamation point" and lower jaw markings on her face and her eyes are a shocking yellow. Reference Image(s): Main Ref. Dama Freckles + Dama Body Mhorr Face Marking Bongo Color Ref. [and 2] + Bongo Face Markings Additional: A few notes on main ref image. Concept I've been toying with for a while. She's comprised of several different antelope/gazelle species. - Would you mind her being considered for a leadership position? As much as I would love that, I don't know how qualified she'd be for an important role. XD;; 2 "positive" personality traits: [Courageous] When they say "having courage like a lion" what they really mean is like a lioness. This girl would put her life on the line for any pride member no matter how big or small, whether they're native to the pride or an outsider recently joined. She has a strong sense of loyalty and family despite whatever hardships she may have endured and she would gladly take on the fiercest of opponents if it meant securing the safety and solace of the home and pride she loves so dearly.
[Cheerful] If there's one thing that can be said about Njalo, and her name really says it all, it's that despite everything she is always the happy-go-lucky sort. Her thinking always leans towards "the cup being half full" and she doesn''t seem to mind (or notice) when she's being talked down to or treated unkindly. She's an enthusiastic sort and definitely a vibrant and unique personality.
2 "negative" personality traits: [Gullible] Unfortunately, there's something about Njalo that makes her very willing to trust just about anything anyone says when she's approached the right way. This lioness is easily tricked into doing the chores nobody else wants to do, can be made the butt of jokes and teased mercilessly without realizing that she's being duped. Anyone who might dislike her would have an easy time getting her into trouble as she's terribly unassuming and will always go along with pretty much whatever she's told. In this manner a rogue male could quite easily saunter into the territory if he explained to her with complete conviction that he had been invited there and another female would easily be able to convince her that the Abaholi would want her to eat beside them at a fresh kill.
[Unreliable] It's not that she means to be, but Njalo can be a bit scatter brained and flighty at times. She's easily distracted and often forgets the current task at hand. Sending her on long missions is a completely pointless because she often forgets what she was supposed to be doing before she even halfway reaches her destination. Additional Personality to Note: She loves cubs and just about everyone, tending to be really affectionate and personable even with others who don't particularly enjoy socializing. Njalo is very much the touchy-feely sort. She's also an excellent ambush hunter, fully taking advantage of her prey-colored pelt to move silently amongst herd animals without being given much notice. Short History: Njalo's mother came to the Bonelands pride already pregnant, she probably stopped to stay for the safety and security until a single cub (that being Njalo) was born. Her mother however, was probably just as flight as she was as it wasn't long before she abandoned her cub to the lionesses of the pride and floated off into the horizon one day, never to be seen again. As a Lusizi child, life was a little rough for her, but Njalo never let it get her down. She appreciates the pride and adores her huge "family". I imagine her coat, being so familiar in coloration to many of the prey animals of the african plains would earn her a lot of teasing and ridicule, often being made to play the "prey" roles in hunting games with other cubs, but Njalo is the sort to take it in stride and is hardly the sort to think that she's playing a part no one else wants to fill, only that they actually want to play with her.
I imagine she'd come into her own as she grew into quite a lovely lioness and a skilled hunter, though those who might still regard her grudgingly would probably say she uses her pelt as a crutch to make up for her lack of real hunting skill. She's a pretty content gal all and all, doing what she can in gratitude to the pride (especially the lionesses that raised her) for not abandoning her when her mother left.
Extra: Probably stuff that I can't currently think of now as I'm racing the clock. XD;
Ithambo hlabathi Results! Neon Fly: Everyone can be a loyal, reliant leader, or a troublesome girl out for themselves, but not everyone can be a loveable (or not so much?) ditz. Njalo'sasa will fill the void for some of the less happy individuals of the pride, and although she may not always be the most successful or reliable, she just might have the courage to help a few less secure lioness' pull together in dark times.
