Mwale'kono, as the first lion in the line of fire on the left hand side, whispered something similar to Morag, although he was on the opposite side. They would all probably have the same idea, but he decided it was best to make it known anyway. "Remember, a dead hyena could mean lost information, or a reason for them to kill one of our own."
The water began to lap at his legs as he tried to keep balance with his stiff leg. He found it hard even when it was dry. Flexing it, he burst forward with the others towards the group.

They were distracted!
Azar could feel the strain in his legs as he reached the last section of the decline and, with a grunt, kicked off to land heavily in the water-filling canyon. Mwale was just ahead, having burst into a run, but it took only a few moments for Azar'bijan to gain that ground.
A couple of seconds later and he would be almost shoulder to shoulder with his fellow guard, letting loose a fierce snarl as they closed the gap; the thunder of their paws audible even above the thrashing rain.

So, the hyena back at the wards had a name... Either it was Sahkar or Nini. Unless Nini was Miah? Or Ea... He didn't make a sound as his face became a snarl, before stepping carefully over the puddles. A sudden anger at these intruders who invaded THEIR lands welled up inside Kosuke, and he surged forward with Morag and the others, aiming to tackle any of the filthy beasts he could.

So they all had made it through without a hitch. It was a relief.
Alya tensed. Her claws kneaded into the dirt as she watched. Listened. For all intense and purposes, the lioness looked as cool as ever, her eyes narrowed and her breaths slow. Her heart raced, though, and she clung close to the ground in anticipation. Gold eyes swept sideways to watch Morag, waiting for some sort of queue to move forward.
And as the dark lioness pushed forward, Alya followed, close to the spymaster's flank.

It seemed that the group before them was missing at least two of its members. Huozin wondered if one of those was the hyena Roihu had knocked unconscious, but thought they should probably operate on the assumption that there were three or more running loose through the Motoujamii-Simo's lands. The red lion didn't care to have dogs loose in Firekin territory, but the borders had already been violated.
It was better to be overly cautious than to risk overlooking an invader.
Pushing his musings to one side, the Hunter crept forward as silently as if he was stalking a particularly nervous prey animal.

Nkera had lingered behind, keeping an eye on the group’s backs as the others had begun positioning themselves. It wouldn’t do for the ambushers to find themselves the target of an ambush themselves, now would it? Then he followed after the group that had taken the path to the left, silently moving through the steep surface all the way to the base of the canyon. As a lion from the mountains, this was his element.
He stayed close to the group, mouth opened in a snarl and the growl in his throat slowly rose in volume as he prepared himself for the beasts’ reactions to the arrival of a dozen large lions.

To cape… it probably didn’t work that well as a verb but Baise didn’t it mind it much. She just giggled, holding tighter to the adult in search of support and comfort. Maybe rain wasn’t so bad when you started to get used to it – the fact that she was close to a warm body and her paws had finally left the muddy ground certainly helped.
“I don’t know. I just left… I didn’t tell anyone where I was going…” she looked somewhat apologetic but not really concerned. “I don’t remember seeing the others… I was just looking at the rain... I wasn’t thinking.” She was starting to realize that she should’ve at least told her mother that she was leaving the den. Hopefully, she wouldn’t be too worried. Baise grinned, trying to hide a sudden worry. “Maybe I’m in trouble…”

Azar was watching carefully for the time for her to launch forward and take on what was in front of her. She nodded to Mwale before positioning herself just right. She wasn't that sure of what the hyenas were talking about or if they were planning something but regardless she was ready to move. She lowered herself to the ground and as the other Azar launched himself the Brigadier moved as quickly as she could, her teeth bared and ready to attack if the hyenas were to attack them.

Mkazo was a dark mass moving forward with the others, his predominantly black pelt blending with the shadows. He powered through the wet footing, although he could feel it dragging at his legs, attempting to slow him down. Ultimately, it was not that much more difficult than wading through snow, or his initial adjustment period of getting used to this blasted sand. The names were heard, and noted--but tucked away in his mind for later. For now, there was an ambush to carry out.

The trap was sprung, and suddenly hyenas were surrounded by lions. Elcca notably waited a few seconds for the others to rush forward before slinking in from behind- resuming a casual pace once the group had the hyenas at a stand off.
For what it was worth, the small pack were no slackers. They immediately formed ranks and made a circle formation. The two larger hyenas- a male and a female, began to snarl and pace. But for the moment, they held off retaliation.
Elcca got the sense that they were speaking, but it was hard to understand. She narrowed her eyes and did what she did best: talk. "With all that slobbering I can't understand a thing you utter. So why don't we settle down and talk. Where is the doctor? She's obviously not here."
The female strode forward. She was a dark, ugly looking thing covered in old scars. Her yellowing teeth peeled back. "This is no diplomatic meeting, sparkle lion. Step aside, or we will kill."
One of the hyenas, a male with a strange marking over his face started to murmur. "Scheherazade, we weren't supposed to kill anyone-"
There was a loud yelp as another hyena silenced him.
Scheherazade turned towards the group. "They've got us surrounded, but there's always a weaker side. They came from the south. The ones at our backs are the braver, trained ones. Cut through the others. You know where to meet back up."
Elcca blinked in surprise. But before more could be said, suddenly the pack split and charged the forward group.
As the hyenas charged, a particularly brazen one charged out in front of them. "Dea, keradem!" he shouted in a strange dialect.
arrow TIME TO FIGHT.
How this will go:
[ ONE ROLL PER HYENA POST. ]
1. For each hyena, I will roll a number 1-10. You must match, or roll above that number for a 'victory'. 2. If you are defeated, consider it like losing the upper-hand. These are hyenas, so we're going to assume none of them is strong enough to really hurt anyone. But it is up to you how you see your rolls. 3. If you win, you may RP yourself pinning the hyena down. No fatalities yet please! 4. If you are not rolling, you may RP generic battling.
IF THE PACK IS ABLE TO 'DEFEAT' MORE THAN FIVE LIONS, THEY WILL ESCAPE.

He had charged down with the others, glad to get moving again before he cooled down [because then it would be harder]. The exchange between the hyenas was a little intriguing, and though one had been cut off, he did manage to hear it say they weren't supposed to kill anyone. What was going on here?
But the exchange didn't last long. Yayuka barely had time to snarl as one of the hyenas came charging at him. With a battle cry! He felt a little inadequate not yelling something and shouted out something incomprehensible as he went to meet his foe.
Usually when fighting hyenas Yayuka would be chasing them off, and he hated the idea of actually being bit by one of those famously strong jaws. But by some stroke of luck, and he wasn't even sure how he did it, in a flurry of moment he had managed to evade the attack and flip the hyena on its side.
To discourage struggling and biting he found a strong hold on the hyena's throat, but had no intention of piercing the skin or causing any permanent damage. Like killing, that would be pretty permanent. A dead hyena wasn't useful! He put his weight down on his captive and hoped they managed to catch the others as well.

With all that was going on down at the gorge it was probably for the best that Fia was not with them. If she'd realised her sister was missing and that the intruders were picking fights, she'd likely have gone into berserker rage despite any promises that she might have made.
"Talking about me?" Fia eyed the cub sceptically. "Only good things, I hope." And, despite everything she said about not liking cubs, she made a mock-scary face, that shifted into one of surprise when the sand collapsed over her.
"That's a very ambitious head you've got on your shoulders." Vesta chirped, reaching down to lift the youngster up and away from the fallen sand. "Whoops. There we go. You're okay now." She smiled, setting Mat down beside her. "This sand is really not holding steady. Perhaps we should make it wider but keep it shallow. Deep sides are not going to hold in this downpour."
"Won't the wind just push the sand in and fill it up again?"
"Hm." Vesta looked around. "We need more rocks. What do you say, little lions? Shall we find some rocks to try and keep the wind away from our pool?"

Elcca was in no way prepared for this. Suddenly there were hyenas rushing at them from all sides- and to make matters worse, the brutish looking leader had her sights squarely upon her. Thinking better of trying to attack, she scrambled forward as best she could, hoping to avoid the oncoming wall of fur and fall into the second wave of firekin.
Hopefully the b***h would value freedom over taking a bite out of her!
A strangely marked hyena was the second to break the group. Unlike the others, he tried his best to pass through the ranks without incident. Unfortunately, the firekin positioned there wouldn't let him. Knowing he had little choice, he charged at the lion nearest:
"I'm sorry. It wasn't supposed to be like this. But I can't let you stop me!"
arrow The next person, roll a dice 1-10. You must beat or match this roll to win.
Rules: 1. If you win, you may godmode your victory. 2. If you lose, you may RP the hyena escaping.

Nkera’s growl was loud enough to be heard by everyone present even through the heavy rain. The nerve of these creatures, trespassing upon lion territory – the same areas where the pride’s cubs often threaded – and they even dared to talk back after they’d been caught? Outnumbered by larger and experienced fighters and still speaking as if they had the upper hand and every right to do whatever they wanted? They were looking down on the entire lion kind much too hard and in a slightly different situation Nkera would’ve loved to teach them all a lesson. Instead, he took a deep breath.
“With the dogs if you grab them by the throat and give them a few good shakes, they won’t move again.” He spoke with an eerie calm that said he might be talking out of personal experience, sounding much less reasonable than the hyena currently charging at him.
They had a brief and somewhat awkward scuffle in which both fighters seemed to be holding back, not really interested in causing fatal damage to one another. Nkera was doing his best to grab butterfly-marked hyena and pin the mangy thing down without biting its head off in the process and the male hyena working on dodging the lion’s attacks while drawing him closer and closer to the edge of the group. He was fast and as soon as he saw an opening, the hyena turned his back on Nkera and fled the scene, disappearing in the darkness and leaving the pale lion roaring angrily on the spot. Great, what if there were others out there?

The hyena that approached and lunged at him seemed apologetic. This confused Mwale'kono, but not enough to make him overthink his reaction. As the hyena moved towards him, he slid his weight towards the canines legs.
The dark male toppled over, and Mwale threw him over onto his back, his large legs pinning him down. He tried not to too any damage, but wanted to make sure the hyena wouldn't try anything again.
It wasn't a time for talking, but his brain was in gear, and he shouted. "What do you mean?!"
((DISREGARD THIS, I didn't see Mogami's post, sorry ;; ))

With a wild howl, a smaller canine running at the leader's flank broke formation and surged forwards, menacing teeth snapping at any who dared to get close.
