arg, you might as well call Naruto "swirlyramenmeat" and Ichigo "strawberry" or "15" (even though his name's not written like either of those, kanji means "to protect" and yet in the english Bleach translations he's occasionally called "strawberry"... damn noobs at viz shonen jump)

Well him being called light kinda makes a little sence (how far have you read)
chapter 58 SPOILERS!!: Like how Light takes over for L it slightly makes sence to keep the L name, and when misa is blabing about him being her light night or something like that it works. But then again they could have put a sub note.
