I have a TIE Advanced Mk. II, but its always stationed on some destroyer so you still have to get off planet and onto (currently the slayer) and jack it.
But the thing is Ferno doesn't fly with his hands on a stick. He uses his mechanical enhancements to speed up reaction time. So he thinks where he wants to go and it does it.
Kinda like in the movie Firefox, where Clint has to launch missles by thinking in russian.

Feh. Its been done before.
Robotech had Neural Helmits that allowed enhanced reaction times. It was required to operate veritechs.
Cybernetic enhancements that allow direct interface with a spaceship or mech are standard fare in Sci-fi.

Yes, but they didn't have the ability to meditated while flying, also improving reaction times of fellow pilots.
Or detonate missles before they hit without using countermeasures..
