No clue.
The Naboo Security Force is probably using whatever is the latest fad, just shiney and showy.
The're not that great of a military, and the naboo Fighter is not that great of a ship.

Dont mistake their pretty shape for good.
A Z-95 could blow them out of the sky.
Even the Droid Fighters were better armed.
All they had were moderately good pilots.

Not the original droid fighters, I think. Are you referring to the droid fighters in Ep. 1 or 3, because I think they're two different kinds, not counting the trifighters and saucer fighters

Plus, the Nubians seemed to have catalytic converters on their ships... somthing about having every starship be "environmentally friendly".

It no doubt had an effect on performance.

I must admit, the Nubian fighters don't exactly look like they'd be that great. Rusty would probably refuse to be loaded into one's droid socket in protest.

they're parade vehicles, not meant for combat.

They still did the job. there were about 30 of them in the BoN, and half made it back home. Against about 5000 droid fighters, I'd say that's pretty damn good

Lets see... a Droid Control ship of the period carries about 1500 Droid Starfighters... against 30 enemy starfighters.

Its pretty obvious the Trade Federation didn't use all of their fighters in the engagement.

Also... dumb droids vs good pilots equal dead droids no matter the craft type.

Besides, I find it quite characteristic of Nute Gunray to commit way more to an attack then he'd ever need. Sending thousands of ships to crush all opposition seems very much like him
