Ignatius didn't really have time to even get settled in before the owl swooped in and took him away.

Oddly enough, Ignatius wasn't even angry anymore.

It was almost like he had hit the acceptance stage of grieving over their inability to get to these artifacts.

Brenley's anger wasn't as quick to cool, but he was feeling a little numb. It helped.

Somehow Brenley could tell where the portal went by just sticking a hand in.

Perhaps for the first time, Ignatius acknowledged to himself that spontaneously following random books off to random locations probably wasn't the best of decisions.

Having that kind of acceptance of their failure almost felt a bit ... serene.

Had Brenley known the blasphemous thoughts that crossed his friend's mind he might have tried to reassure him. But he didn't so he wouldn't.

Well, sort of. The moment that music that was always stuck in his head now started to ring, the serenity disappeared, naturally.

How many times could he stick his hand into an abandoned town?

Or the arctic?

This music was more of an earvampire than an earworm. Ignatius rubbed at his ears as if it would get it out.

Cold.  

[Smerdle]

Musty.  

[Seiana_ZI]

Where was this forest? This cold was definitely not a forest.

Musty again. He almost stuck his head inside and told the abandoned city what he thought of it, but he figured that would waste time.
