Xala took out her weapon, the long and ornate chain in her hands, before swinging it hypnotically. Smoke began to pour out. She hoped this wouldn't mess up the Elder's experiment.

"Why don't you just," cough, "take a deep," hack cough, "breath!"

She tried to cover up in her veil, but mostly ended up rolling on the ground until she was out of range of her own smoke.

She was really the only one it effected....

Xala reached out, and felt herself grabbing a puff of fur.

That was a start, at least.

The scareon yowled as she pulled it closer, bristly tail really, really not appreciating what was happening.

"Shhh," she told it, "We don't want to damage you! Just knock you out a little. Maybe if you could stop breathing for just a really small amount of time."

Okay the worst part was with all the white fur she couldn't tell if it was losing it or not. She tentatively checked the inside of it's little mouth. It'd be blue, right?

....Right. Okay. Not biting. Pretty limp. Good to go. Again, this is something she felt like probably she should be buying and not doing with her bare hands but it was pretty cut watching its little life drain out of it.

It gasped and panted some, and she patted its head, and gave it a little sniff of the numbing stuff. It grew limp in her arms.

Xala bound it up expertly with some baking string, and as it began to stir, crumbled the paincakes. She really would have preferred for them to be ingested, to be honest, but this worked...okay.

"Okay, here you go!" She told it cheerily. Its breathing picked up, and it sure looked like it was doing...something, but- suddenly it began to struggle and thrash. A seizure? Xala clicked her tongue thoughtfully, and brandishing a feather, wrote down the reaction. The bindings stayed stuck. It began to slow again, and soon it was flat on the table, doing the same sort of panting.

If she was honest, she was really more into the really...interior sort of things, viscera and cute little organs and fat, pink intestines. But any death was still intimate, even the little gasps...she blushed and kept her focus on recording.

1. The pollen seeps into its blood and quickly dries it out. The muscles around the area begin to twitch as it swells with irritation. Its breaths become more labored while its heart (or equivalent to it) beats furiously.
2. Midway into applying your mixture, the minipet snaps away and begins to thrash at its restraints with unnatural strength given its state. There isn't fear in its eyes, however; it's distinctly angry at you.

One by one, the alchemist passed by their stations, their expression hidden behind various wraps as they leaned in and collected what notes were made. They seemed pleased at any rate as they skimmed them, or at the very least satisfied by what had been recorded. All was going well, then, or as well as this experimental venture could ask for.

As they did so, several other sages and alchemists entered the room, bearing between them a large stone basin bowl. Their gait was slow enough that they almost glided in, each wearing similar gloves, covers, and masks. And for good reason: the bowl was filled almost halfway with a strange substance: not quite unlike the ones the horsemen had created, but somewhere in a state between liquid and airy solid, an indescribable mixture of colors that seemed to shift and cough of its own volition. This "batch" they were creating wasn't the first made.

The Elder looked to their kin. "Did you--"

Their question was answered with the sound of footsteps and feathers dragging across the sand. The War pair would be joining them for this final step. One of the sages passed them safety equipment as they entered.

"Good. Then." The Elder beckoned their would-be students closer with a whisper of bells. "Bring your mixtures. Carefully now. This final step is both the least difficult and the most taxing. We will be adding them together--unifying their purpose. Typically only one's Fear would be enough, but if my theory is correct, the variability will make this pollen more...ah, what's the word?"

"Brutal?" Shik provided.

"You mean exciting." Shaheen interjected with a flash of teeth and a nudge of her elbow to her partners ribs.

The Elder seemed to sigh. "Nothing as simple as that, but--yes. Adaptable."

They gestured at the large bowl. "You must be very careful while introducing your creation. While now in physical form, you must maintain control of your Fear so that it does not react negatively to its new environment. The compound must also be constantly mixed," and as they said this, one of the other alchemists began to hand out what looked like recently carved wooden spoons the length of their arms, "and even your own breath, should you breathe, must be controlled. I would lie if I said I would not be interested in seeing how it affects a horseman at this stage but--safety first, of course." Of course.

"You are free, if it is in your power, to conduct your Fear through other means--preferably if it follows in the schools of Tainted Fang or The Chill. We have recently learned that these also help fortify the pollen," they said. One of the sages brightened, another rolled their eyes. It might have been a complete accident even. "Though do remember to not disturb others, whatever you do. It will take enough concentration not to let your mixture slip."

With a nod to the group as a signal to start, the alchemist shuffled their way towards the test subjects, curious to see their behaviors while the others worked.

Quote:
STAGE 3: CREATE THE COMPOUND

With your individual creations in hand, you must now work together to mix them together into the "batter." Only by striking a balance between your Fear maintaining its properties and allowing others to introduce theirs will you create a successful pollen disease that can sustain itself. For this stage, check what you will be rolling below and if any bonuses pertain to you:

 • Famine Horsemen: 1d8
 • Death/War/Conquest Horsemen: 1d6
 • Elder Horsemen of ANY clan: You may add +1 to all your rolls. This bonus can't be added if you roll a 1 or if your Fear misses. This can go over the max if you roll it. (ie. 9 for Famine and 7 for all others.)
 • If you have a Tainted Fang/The Chill Fears: You may choose to roll it as if attacking/targeting the grand compound. If it's a success, you automatically add +5 to the compound score as your manifestation helps ease some of your creation into the mix. For TF, the flavor of its damage actually helps increase the future toxicity and level of contagion. For Chill, it helps "mend" the differences between the various mixtures.

The goal is to reach a Collective Compound Score of 50. The Score cannot go below 0.

If you roll a 1, however, instead of adding it to the score you must subtract it. Something happened: you lost your focus for a moment, or perhaps you breathed in too much of someone's mixture, etc.

Rolls are unlimited. Please add this to the top of your post when you roll (and remember to edit in the change immediately afterwards):

CURRENT COMPOUND SCORE:

Example: The person above me rolls a 5. I also roll a 5. I change the score at the top of my post to a Compound Score of 10 to reflect this.

If you have any IC questions, the Elder alchemist is there and busy with the minipets that have been brought in. Shik and Shaheen have also returned if you want to ask them anything.

THIS STAGE WILL LAST UNTIL APRIL 27TH (WEDNESDAY EVENING CST)

IF YOU DID NOT COMPLETE STAGES 1 AND 2
You can skip ahead and help with stage 3 if you choose! However, all of your rolls will be at a -1 modifier as your Fear is neither acting through a medium nor has been introduced to a spore from the pollen creation. This does mean rolling a 1-2 is a failure for you. (Rolling 1 just means subtracting the one, not turning to 0.)

You may also continue to work on stages 1 and 2 before joining in as well. The assistant is still there to help direct you as need be. As a note, there is a small bonus prize to those who complete all 3 stages!

Why couldn't all minipets be as well behaved as Ilham? Na'ima was more than glad to move on to the next step, checking her scarf coverings while taking an offered spoon. Everyone's mixtures were so different, so many ingredients and so many...skill levels. An unstable concoction could spell the death of them if someone wasn't careful.

((Na'ima used The Chill. Get things started off on a high note.))

It needed something more. Their goal was to torment Hunters, hers was to eradicate them entirely. She wanted it to be as painful for them as possible, painful enough for them to know what four islands of innocent horseman destruction felt like.

So she would give it a little extra kick.

Liang looked grim at the idea of finding prey and essentially doing hands on dirty work. It was what he'd signed up for but he wasn't particularly enthused about this particular part of the process. He wasn't much for harming innocent non-human creatures and the idea of maiming minipets didn't appeal all that much.

Still, what he was told to do he would do and he set off to find a minipet.
