I hope the storm has calmed down where you are by now, Jewel.. Blizzards are not much fun. We don't really have any snow left, appearantly this has been the mildest winter in a hundred years or so. confused I did another freebie in my auction..

Someone on Gaia contacted me about a commission with actual cash.. surprised But I have absolutely no idea about how much to ask, I've never sold paintings to people I didn't already know before..

Wows, that's so pretty! I'm wondering if you used Kate Blanchette as a reference for the face? There's a striking resemblance =D
You could probably ask somewhere around 50-150 USD, but that's just my guess xP *only pretends to know things*

Thanks, but no, it's not her. I used a reference picture I found deep in my reference folders, but I don't think the model is well-known.. smile
I ended up asking for $30, since I don't have much experience.. Even if it would only take me 90 minutes at my regular job to earn that amount, and these paintings usually take me 10-20 hours. whee Oh well, just wait until I'm famous/dead! rofl

That's true Mary, it is something I really enjoy.. smile Thank you, Roxii! smile This one is taking so incredibly long I need to show it to someone even if it's not nearly done.. It will be coloured eventually, I just wanted to get the muscles right first.. I'm testing out shading with a small hard brush to make him look rugged, very different from my usual technique.. I don't like his face at all, but I'll work more on that later. whee

Orielle Someone on Gaia contacted me about a commission with actual cash.. surprised But I have absolutely no idea about how much to ask, I've never sold paintings to people I didn't already know before..
Firstly Ori @___@
$30 is WAY TOO LOW for a RL cash commission i see people who don't do art half as good as you... charging about $70 ... for something like a waist up =0
Seriously you have a DA sub right ?
try and do a poll asking what people would pay for a head shot / bust up / waist up etc etc
i know its hard to price your own work as i want to do cash commissions... but seriously as you say - the amount of time it takes you - you need to be charging a lot more than $30 @)__@
Sorry im ranting but its just because i know you could make A LOT of money from your art - in fact i truly believe you could do it full time and [probably make more money than having a full time job. I dunno to me your art is really professional.. so.. yeah..
if i where you - i would charge a headshot freebie type thing for $30 maybe a full head painting for about $50 + depending on complexity's..
Waist up - probably about $80 - in English terms its only £40 and to me thats well worth it for one of your paintings RAWR!! Experience doesnt mean a thing - its quality.. and your art is yvery full of it D:
@shuts up now@
Sorry my rant is now over D:
o0o and im luffling your wip though n__n
Jewel - Alsations = German Shepard same difference different names xD

Wow, thanks Sui..
A DA poll is a really good idea, I'll do that if I decide to do more commissions! After all it is a really fun way of making money.. ninja
But I don't know, $80 sounds like a lot for a digital drawing.. eek If people just take the time to get to know me, chances are I'll do it for free anyway.. xp

*gasps* eek wow those muscles are turning out very life-like!! heart heart I think this commission gonna made your half body skills rise alot since I know you rarely does that due to time right? sweatdrop I think the face look okay..personally I would use the transforms tool to made it larger/tilted it or whatever you think made it look right! lol Sui know her commision so I would trust her 3nodding $80 isn't that much..just think of it as a job $8 and hour times 10 hours = $80 mrgreen rofl
I soo want to try doing a realistic painting over spring break now! lol *look around* ninja

@nod nods@
Yarr Sui knows her stuff <33
@winks to Mary@
XD
You certainly should if you do more commissions - its what i want to do.. but im not good enough..yet :V i mean its awesome making money doing something you enjoy :B
Mayblebee but still if i where you id be a total art whore xD
drawing to get moneys all the time - drawing to get my lame pixelated want - NM minis xD
i dunno xD
and yarr if you think $80 is enough just cut it down to a rough hourly rate and its still pretty cheap for the time you put in <33 and seriously people are happy to pay it..
I would pay that much for your art >_< if i had a job XD and my income was more than £30 a month [about $60]
@rolls@
I've shown your art to my friends and family.. and your portraits are AWESOME - ill bet they would pay you to do something <333

@Orielle: Wow, that's so cool. >w< I wish I have some drawing talent and make some side cash with art. Dx If you are doing a full body portrait then $30 might be a might cheap. But since it is digital I guess you can't really get yours hands on it so it might be the right price. ^^; Tho I would charge by an hourly rate. 3nodding Like $8 an hour or a bit more. ><
