"You tease." Whitney said, giving a bit of a laugh. "Thanks all the same though." She said, starting to walk off, hands behind her back. "Anyways, it hasn't changed that much, really. While we do have things a bit more orderly within the gyms, I think its better this way. In a way, it gives...the illusion that its a more fair of a fight." She then turned over towards Ryan. "It's really not. Really, the only edge that a trainer has going into the gym is that those defending the gym can't switch, but every rule has those loopholes you know." she said with giggle. Yea. If anything, still got that bit of a sinister streak that Ryan may be familiar with.
Just for Aden's information, they were still there. Fortunately we were going to be far enough away to not witness it a second time. A good ways away from the daycare, we were heading on to a small strip of beach. "Alright, this should do just fine."

"Huh? I don't remember this spot quite so well." This wasn't a complaint, but Aden really hadn't paid attention to this area. Then again, he had his reasons for not being aware in the first place.

Ryan smirks again. "Like that cow of yours?" he says as he follows her. "Strong pokemon can counter any loophole like that. It's up to trainers to be ready for that. True, coming off of fighting Bugsy, fighting you is a shock. Yet those trainers who have been diligent in training usually can win." he follows up with. "So, what do you think of Aden?" he asks her.

"One thing is for certain, Blizzard's training shows in him. That said, Aden is actually doing himself a bit of justice by putting his own spin on it. However, he...seems to be a little too easily shaken, even for newcomer trainer standards." she said, looking back at Ryan. "I wonder if Blizzard has noticed that as well..."
"This tends to be an ideal training spot for many trainers that travel by here as well as those who live in Goldenrod City. The National Park and the battlefield in the Underground mall, and by extension, the Goldenrod Gym is basically to see if their training paid off. Its secluded. Rather long. Quiet. You name it." I said to him.

I said to him. "I will agree with that. He is inventive, yet he panics the second things go wrong. And Blizz does know. Him and I have been trying to temper that, yet Aden still seems to get rattled if something takes him by surprise. Now, he isn't anywhere as bad when I first met up with them. He is growing, but he is still very green as a trainer." Ryan says as he continues to follow her.

"And a little out of the way... maybe I should've ran for this instead of the city when we first got there." Aden spoke up. "Makes sense, though. It's probably the best spot around this area."

This left a thought to cross Whitney. "Exactly...how long has Aden been doing this?" She asked.
I put down my pack and walked a good ways from it. I didn't need it getting in the way. "Alright Aden. First, a bit of review time before we get to the lesson at hand."

"Alright Aden. First, a bit of review time before we get to the lesson at hand." Ryan takes a deep breath. "This would be his first Gym Challenge. And outside the few exhibition matches at Ecruteak, I think that would wrap up all his experience as a trainer. from what I heard, he had a very sheltered life until he got caught up with me and Blizz." Ryan explains.

"Right." To those means, he was quick about getting himself situated. This also meant removing his vest, if only to try and get better used to the additional speed without it. "To start... lesse."
Already, he was taking in a decent bit of chi. He was, for all intents and purposes, ready.

No wonder Aden was still like he is. Whitney can only imagine how Aden got wrapped up in being under someone's tutelage like he did, and for what reasoning for that matter. And Ryan if anything confirmed what I had told her earlier. Just a couple of battles in Ecruteak City. "Well, the kid has a bit of guts if anything, going through a gym run in such a condition. I think I can see why Falkner got him started like he did. Though, I think in this case it would be for the better that Aden did have another battle with me."
"Alright, back from week one, Aden. Start things off with a Heat Wave." I said. "Put out as hard as you can and nothing beyond that. No Calm Mind or anything like that. We'll get to it in a little bit."

"Don't worry, he may have looked pretty down when he left after that initial loss, but if i know him and Blizz, the kid will be back soon to take you on. I was kind of expecting him to need at least two tries to get by you. And besides, it's a rare feat for someone to beat you first go. Only reason I did was because I had that Machop." Ryan says to her.

"Review indeed... don't worry, I'm not going to get Calm Mind going just yet anyway." He would, however, make it a point to build up as much fire chi as possible, the air rapidly warming as a result.
He backed up if only to avoid getting Blizzard too badly in the crossfire, his eyes closed and his wings spreading. Finally, he let off the harsh attack, catching a fairly large area. Compared to before, there was certainly improvement, and a hint that maybe he was starting to get the hang of actually making use of what he had without quite so much provocation.
But only maybe.

Improvement indeed. He was actually starting to part the sand under his feet with the force of this attack. "Alright, now Calm Mind it. Get focusing. Stoke that fire." I said, crossing my arms.
"If only barely." She said. He had to admit that it wasn't THAT simple. "Still, I heard you struggled right on the latter couple of gyms at the time." she said.

"...Maybe I should make sure not to get you in this a little better." Aden said, though this was mostly out of concern. He knew Blizzard could handle the attacks; if anything, what he was sending was still akin to child's play. But if a situation was to call for it, he'd rather not be a liability by means of damaging an ally.
In a way, he was trying to emulate that possibility. Do it now so that it becomes second nature later. And with him reclaiming what he could of the fire chi to bolster it, calming himself further, it was probably a good idea in the long run.
It didn't take him much longer to ready himself again; a little bit of extra time to get Calm Mind to work, but otherwise a similar rate. This time, though, he turned his back to Blizzard. "Alright... let's see about this." As he let off the attack, he learned that he wasn't as prepared as he thought. That, or he really was becoming used to pushing these attacks. The force was enough to push him back a little, let alone any sand.
Looking in front of him, he was suddenly glad no one was in the way.

"That I did, but by that time, I was a shattered soul. I had no focus. All I wanted was to be done. Mahogany I still won on my first go, but it was extremely close. But Blackthorn? I had to go back three times after my initial challenge." Ryan explains, a bit of sorrow fading into his eyes.
