Sure enough, Aden was right on track, blowing the log over with the mental burst. "Heh, not bad." I then went over towards the log and lifted it up off the ground, trying to put it up right again. I sat it in place and packed the sand down tight. This time for extra measure, I blasted the base with an Ice beam, giving that extra reinforcement. "Do it again." I said, walking away from the log.

Ryan had just been silently sitting there, watching this all transpire. He was still curious as to why Blizz hadn't asked him if he had a pokemon who knew Psychic. As it happened, he did have one on him. And it was one Blizz should be quite familiar with.

"Uh..." Sudenly, Aden was a little less sure. Now the log had some ice backing it up? Yeesh. But he had a general idea of what to do now. If he could keep that up, maybe there was some sort of chance.
He focused yet again, just as before. It was a little easier to work this time, managing to get the burst off with more speed behind it. It was of similar strength as before, too, but there was that ice reinforcing the log. He wondered if it'd budge any.

It was of similar strength as before, too, but there was that ice reinforcing the log. He wondered if it'd budge any. Sadly, Aden wasn't budging it that easy this time. The log didn't even shift. While it may seem off to reinforce this thing just so Aden would have a hard time doing it, it was all for the better. Aden would be facing all people, shapes and sizes, and if he couldn't get such a thing up to snuff, that Psychic attack would end up as nothing more than a breeze to some. "Try it again." I said.

Not that he thought about that kind of reasoning. But Aden figured there was some reason for it. Seeing that the log didn't move an inch wasn't anything he'd call good, though. "Hm." Yeah, he was gonna have to pour more into it. A lot more.
To those means, he began gathering as much chi as he could.

As I sensed Aden trying to get his chi up, I shook my head. "Aden, remember, you'll be in the heat of things." I said. "You're going to need to work it a lot faster than what you're trying to do. Try picking up the pace."

"I know. But how am I going to learn to do it without at least getting the basics of it?" Aden asked. "Don't get me wrong, I'm a quick learner when I want to be, but I'm not nearly as instant as sis seems to be."
He knew he'd have to be faster about it in an actual fight. But learning in a trial by fire probably wasn't the best way to get the gist of it; he could work on efficiency afterward.

"Just don't be afraid to pace yourself though when you do get it down pat." I said.

"Right." Aden said, giving a nod. He was still gathering as much chi as he could, wondering just how much was in the area. He'd wager a lot more, but if he tried to get everything, he'd be hurting himself. Plus it'd be overkill. He was to knock the log down, not blow it up.
Feeling he might have enough to make an impact for once, he went with what he had. It was a lot. He focused the gathered chi back out of him, getting it to the same spot as the previous bursts. He stepped back just in case, as the area's chi spiked and the harsh burst went off. It was still enough to try and blow Aden back, but he was at a safe enough distance to avoid that happening.

Just as Aden jarred back from his chi burst, the burst apparently did something. At first it was slow, but as weight took hold, the log fell back over again. "Good. Good, Aden." I said. "Though, I don't know why you stepped back like you did. You know if you are in the thick of things, you are going to have to do it at fairly close range."

"Making sure I didn't send myself flying there." He spoke up. "I think I know how dad must've felt when he was learning this."

"Yeah, when he doesn't use it with his sword. He never did say which way he learned it first, though." He explained.

This left me to ask, which probably would sound rather off-handed of me, but I couldn't help it. "Can your dad actually have at it against someone WITHOUT his sword?" I asked. Swordplay was nice and all, but let's be a little real here.

"When it comes to it." Aden answered. "He knows how to fight just fine, with or without it. I think he just likes having the extra option."
