Makaa takes pride in the fact that he is descended from the purest bloodline in the Motoujamii, but he does his best to follow his father's example. He really looks up to his father and wants to be like him but also to carrying on the pride of his ancestors, which is something of a conflict in his mind.
He gets along only moderately well with his litter-mates, tolerating Para the most. He thinks Jiwe is a cry-baby and often finds his company more of an annoyance than true company.
He has something of a soft spot for the female cub Zapaliti, daughter of the story-teller Ripuka. He's promised to protect her and thus has a sort of possessive nature in regards to her. However, he often acts aloof around her, refusing to openly care about her.
After leaving the Firekin desert for the more lush Pridelands, Makaa became more subdued, quiet and moody. His temper grew shorter, mostly because his heart and mind ached for his cub-hood friend and frustrated that he let her get to him so badly. He has the idea that he has become weak and as such uses every opportunity to prove to himself that he is not so.
Because of this, he talks even less to his father, sister, and the seer, generally going off on his own while the others rest to be alone with his thoughts.
When Zapa reentered his life it was like the calm after a storm. At first he had tried not to care, as caring about her in the first place had made him miserable, but in the end he couldn't deny his feelings.
He does his best to be gentle around her, though as he had never been the feely sort it's taking some getting used to. He's playful in his own way, teasing her to rile her temper, though he rarely gets that reaction anymore. She knows him too well.
As a father, he is even more protective than before. He enjoys playing with and is quite doting on his cubs, but can be almost overly stern with them when they do something dangerous. He doesn't want to come off as being mean, but he doesn't know how to control himself yet. His worry upsets him and it shows in his lectures.

Makaa'yamoto| Basic Info[ | Personality | Cubhood | Juvenile | Adolescent | Adult | Timeline | Photo Album | Relations/Family Tree | Pride Info | Items | Makaa'yamoto was born a Lord of the Firekin traditionalists, one of the younger brothers to the queen at the time, and son of Lord Mwali, brother to the former king Kui. He showed a pride for his family and his position from an early age, doing his best to act as mature and brave as possible, to be as strong as his father and to make him proud. As a cub, he learned to compete with his younger brother Jiwe and watch out for his sister Parizade. He did not get along well with his nephew Ali, often finding himself fighting with the slightly younger cub, generally over Ali picking on one of his own or Makaa's sisters. Makaa had earned a protective streak towards females early on, knowing they were generally as strong as males, but still feeling that it was his duty to protect them in times of danger. It wasn't long before he met a young female cub named Zapaliti. He felt that her brothers were doing her an injustice by letting her wander around by herself, so he promised to watch out for her when they didn't. After a few mishaps concerning Zapa's heritage, they became close friends, taking time to explore their pridelands and generally spend time with one another and meet each others' families. They became fond of a small outcropping of rocks, where they found a small blue flower that Zapa placed behind her ear and a dark jerboa that attached itself to Makaa, a small mouse-like companion that he named Ndevu and allowed to hide in his mane. |

After the death of his mother, Makaa had little choice but to go with his father, towards the Pridelands where his father's true mate and children had lived. Makaa had hoped Zapa would go with him, but when he went to talk to her about it, she asked him to come with her to the Simo to look for her lost brother. He refused to go with her for fear that his father would die before he could get back. They fought before parting ways, something he deeply regrets. He left the Safi lands with his father, sister Parizade, a former slave and seer Zaphod, and Ndevu, along with a heavy heart and troubled mind, heading towards the greener lands of the Pridelands. On the journey, he found something of a friend in Zaph, though the older lion could not replace the companion he had found in Zapa, not to mention neither males were the chatty type after leaving the desert. When they arrived in the Pridelands, they found an older male that turned out to be his half-brother Kiso, who in turn led them further into the Pridelands, to find Mwali's mate Koho. |

He went off to think of things, of the choices he had made. Going with his father and sister to the Pridelands, parting ways with all of his older siblings and the rest of his littermates, allowing Zapa to journey with the others to the Simo lands in search of her missing brother. His thoughts were mostly on the lioness he had parted with on such harsh terms. That was his only regret, that their last words to one another had been harsh. As he was walking back towards his father, he wasn't paying attention and stumbled upon what he thought was a rock. Instead, it turned out to be a strange thing, long and with sharp edges rather than smooth ones and it looked to have been made from a tree. The box (though he didn't know that that was what it was called) ended up containing a few trinkets, one of which was an orange and yellow stone set embedded in a smooth gray stone which was set in a gold necklace. With Ndevu's help he managed to get it around his neck. He also took one other piece of jewelry from the box, charging his tiny friend to hold onto it as it hid in his mane. |
