The bond Jamie had with Shiloh was never intrusive, never felt like it shouldn't be there. In fact, it often let him in on things he hadn't realized otherwise. Eve and Leila's plan was one of those things.

If they could separate the Burning Man from Ezra without spilling blood, wouldn't that be beneficial?

He could feel Shiloh's intentions in his head. Falling back from the fight, Jamie used their link to send Shiloh more power, to focus his casting in the hopes of helping it succeed. Separate, he thought in rhythm with Shiloh's own thoughts.

Nasir made a choked noise, fire searing his hands and racing up along his clothing. This was why he had made sure to leave Trouble behind. He just was not expecting the feeling of fire along with everything else.

It was barely noticed that Alexis wrenched between them and grabbed a hold or that Wil pulled him back. Instead he was blinking as the fire was put out and his hands throbbed. The smugness, at least, he knew wasn't his own but the rest-

The rest he couldn't tell.

"He's so- so smug ..." He looked to Wil, blinking because his glasses were ... kind of lopsided. "I was trying to get through his emotions but there's so much fire on the inside and out."

This time it took longer trying to make the gestures he usually did, his hands throbbing even after it looked as if the flesh of his hands was healed. The hair on his arms, however, was definitely gone.

A worried look finally went to Alexis. "They need to stop," he whispered, "or they're going to get themselves killed."

Chester made another couple of knives, taking a certain pride at the one that actually looked like you might buy it from a store. It turned out it was far easier to create something out of nothing when there wasn't a death timer ticking in your ear.

He grabbed one and threw, hoping he might hit again. For what, he didn't know. They didn't seem to be making much of an impact.

If you have a burning stack listed above, take 5 damage now or consume ur mini-sigil from Preacher; if your burning stack was acquired and negated in this round, take 5 damage but do not add a stack of burning to yourself.

Basically everyone was kicking Ezra's a** like it was a kickball and they wanted a home run. He continued to do nothing at all to prevent them from kicking his a** like a kickball. People threw glass at him, water at him, spells at him, and he just took it, looking for all the world like he was counting down from 100 in his head. Maybe he was. How much time did they have remaining?

This was where the horrifying thing happened.

Jamie, Shiloh, Eve, and Leila's power shot out, given shape and form by their ritual and their intent behind it. They wanted Ezra and the burning man to be separated. They wanted the man to separate from the flame. There were two problems with this:

firstly, the Burning Man was Ezra Fitzpatrick too;

secondly, they had been attacking the body of the Ezra Fitzpatrick they wanted to save.

Their intent had been only to separate, not to save. The burning Ezra collapsed to his knees and fell forward, his glasses making a delightful crunch sound, not unlike biting into one of Preacher's Cheetos. His clothes, previously pristine, were rapidly soaking up blood from the inflicted wounds.

The Burning Man was still there.

Shun merely grunted at Temperance, "Tell that to the Burning Man."

It wasn't as if he was trying to be set on fire. No, it was much more of the opposite, as he was trying to bring him down while keeping distance. He did feel he might be more effective up close, but unlike Alexis, he had enough sense than to go striking someone who was ablaze.

If someone could conjure a deluge in here, it might be nice though. Well. There were some pitchers of water...

Before he could do much else, the Burning Man had been forcefully separated from Ezra. Well that might have solved one issue, but Ezra was looking really bad right now.

"Someone go ******** stabilize him," he hissed out.

After he had been put out, he shrugged off his coat and tossed it aside, then used his magical lifting abilities to snatch one of the pitchers to try and slam or shatter it onto the Burning Man.

"Oh my god, Ezra. Ezra..."

Leila leapt from her seat and started rushing over the second the casting ended and she heard the sound of him falling to the floor, and saw him bleeding, there was blood everywhere -- they'd ******** up --

It was up their arms, burning at their clothing; Algernon had pulled some of the fire off their braid, from where it had swung into the flames as they ran for Nasir -- charred-ends, burnt-ends -- their fingers hurt so badly, but at this point Alexis wasn't all that cognizant of the fact anyone else was here besides the other attackers. Nasir was safe. It was fine. They had to keep going.

Everything was one bright, burning point of possibility; the pain racing up their arms all lead back to the same point, and it was the Burning Man standing before them and all they wanted to do was tear him apart again and again and again. This was just pain. Pain wasn't anything. They wouldn't stand for a world where Nasir was dead and they still had to live through it.

(In simpler terms, Alexis was on ******** fire, and didn't seem to notice.)

Whatever Jeremiah had been expecting to happen this was not it. Or was it? Hadn't this been what they wanted? Ezra Fitzpatrick separated from the Burning Man?

He saw Leila in motion, immediately calling out. "Leila! Eve! Just be ready for him!" Jeremiah was gone from Algie's side, disappeared in his own small bit of flame and then appearing where the separated pair were. He smiled at the Burning Man, his eyes particularly bright with all the flames.

"If you don't mind, Father, I'll be taking this Ezra. He's not yours anymore." Not that he would attack, no, but he did quickly drop to put his hands on the badly injured young man. The fire around the Burning Man meant nothing to him and in another moment they were gone.

Jeremiah reappeared, out of breath once more and near Leila and Eve, the bloody Ezra with him. Thankfully he was already kneeling because otherwise he would have fallen over.

"Jesus wept," America hissed, seeing the burning man split, seeing Alexis go berserk despite being on fire still. Weaving a thread of magic through the flames that engulfed them, America lifted off part of the fire, there so much fire, and pulled it down tight into a little ball of flame that floated in the air before it extinguished after a few seconds.

And then that happened and Chester's thoughts on not making an impact went up in flames. Holy s**t. No, really. Holy s**t. He had been feeling rather conflicted about smacking around a guy who wasn't fighting back, even after what said guy had done to Preacher, but now that the man had been separated from the thing who wanted them all dead, it made this fight far easier to engage in.

He had a vision of throwing a knife in slow motion, watching it sink into the Burning Man's fiery eye socket as their foe toppled in even slower motion. There were cheers.

Too bad he picked up one of his daggers by the blade. It kind of ruined the whole thing.

When Jeremiah retrieved Ezra-the-youth and brought him over, Leila didn't thank him, or even say anything, or nod... she just blinked vacantly. She was in shock, terrified. Her hands were shivering and her jaw was all but fused shut. The first-aid training she knew didn't even begin to cover what needed to be done to help him.

What was more important... the fire or the bleeding? She chose the fire, gently pulling a cluster of flame away with her magic like she'd seen others do.

SOMEONE HELP. PLEASE. Her desperate thought was pinged out to everyone she knew; anyone who wasn't occupied by the fight.

Eve moved down to the floor and helped with a nearby pitcher of cool water, washing some of the blood away in the process. It also revealed the extent of some of his injuries, and because of it she was working one-handedly -- the other hand was clapped over her face. Her breath staggered and she failed to fight back her tears.

She was trying to help him and instead practically got him killed. Just like with Michael.

"Tha ********." Ultimately, it didn't matter to her that one dude had kind of peeled away from the other. Dude was on the floor; his shirt was doing pretty good at collecting his blood; he'd be ********' fine. And Preacher did not do the whole 'healing' thing. She'd ******** up and he'd grow five ears along his spine or something.

That being thought, Preacher turned her attention to the firery thinger in front of them. This, she thought, was the final form of Taco Bell. "Smooth," she said to Chester. But then she did the same damn thing. Grunting in disgust at herself, he pulled her hands back. Maybe it was the proximity to fire, but they ached.

Watching Ezra seperate was something of a sight but having Jeremiah disappear beside Algie caused a cold chill up his spine. Really, you could have brought him along.

The professor rushed to help, one hand sliding around Jeremiah's wrist as he pulled Ezra away and giving him that adrenaline push he was looking for.

His other hand was out helping Eve and Leila with the unconscious man in front of them. First the burning, then the healing.

Even as Temperance stared, she was moving. Of all things, she hadn't expected Ezra to split like there were in some kind of weird video game. Well, everything in alternate Ashdown was kind of video game-y - they'd just gone from Skyrim to Dead Space in 0.3 seconds. Shun would have to put out his own fires, or simply not accrue them.

It was lucky that she was still in her scrubs with her non-slip shoes or Temperance would have skid through the water on the floor. The combination made the third floor a weird, humid place. She dropped to her knees next to him, placing four of her hands on his body. It took some doing to concentrate on slowing his blood and look for bandages. "Scissors and gauze are in my bag," she said. It was a small favor that he was already unconscious. "We need to get this clothing off so I can see what we're working with. I'm slowing the blood for now, but I can't stop it."
