In my absence, my little thread has become a haven for really bad jokes and puns. Should I be amused, or horrified? xd
In response to what someone else was asking about why Shikamaru doesn't fight at night, it might be that his jutsu doesn't work then. Everything is dark, so there are no real "shadows" for him to manipulate. Everything is a shadow, really, so either it all cancels out, or maybe the "shadow" of night is just too big for Shikamaru to manipulate.

Also, our planet when phasing opposite of the sun has a shadow on in. A shadow is not a complete absence of light, but a "blockage" of one light source from another. The stars and the moon are the secondary light source while the sun, the primary light source, is casting a shadow over that side of the planet. It doesn't cancel out. Like I said, the shadow within a shadow concept. When you're in a dark room at night, there are still shadows below you, and casting off the objects, from a very dim light source. Whether or not Shikamaru can use the shadow of the earth (or whatever planet) to his advantage, I'm not sure. Also, he can only manipulate his own shadow. When using other shadows, he "bounces off" of them of uses them to "extend" his own" The night would greatly increase his reach, even if he can't use the planet's shadow, because at night there is typically 2 light sources: the moon, and any light being used to see. This makes two shadows cast from one object.

I've tried to make sense of Shikamaru's shadow jutsu before, until I realised that manipulating shadows in the first place makes no scientific sense. rofl It's difficult to say what would happen in such-and-such a situation, since Kishimoto controls the rules of that universe.
That said, I kind of agree with you, Shikalee. Fighting while everything it shadowy would probably make it a lot easier for him.
