That, my dears, is the reality of "merry olde england". Frankly, in parts of the uk its next to suidcidal to be different.

There's people here that have just been arrested for attacking and killing a man with learning difficulties. Those poor sods got off lightly, in my opinion, but that no lessens my sympathyand outrage, obviously.

Also note that there were 5 arrested, but chances are, there were far more people involved. Chav rule: only attack when in greater nubers or armed with by "big-dumb-a**-knife-or-other-chav-weapon". And still in greater numbers.

hm, I'd say more "you're different, differnt is ok to be attacked and increase my big ego by beating up to people with my big gang".

More a reaction to what's differnt is new and scary, and therefore a threat, so in a way "dangerous" but more, that old "i'm scared of differnt things, so I'm going to react to my fear by turning it into anger and beat the living crap out of you"

This brings something else to light. While being outnumbered still sucks, I recommend that everyone take a martial art or self defense course whenever you can, as well as carry around a personal safety device like mace or sharp keys, things that won't get you arrested. I used to work at a Goth/fetish bar, and we had people attacked at several points, plus a few shooting deaths.

Doing some damage might help if you're cornered, but I still recommend running into a crowd. Preferably not the one chasing you.

If you need a martial art to take, I would reccommend Aikido. It's based on the ancient samurai forms, and teaches more often than not how to take on and defeat multiple opponents at once without killing or seriously harming them.

If you're less of a pacifist, I reccommend a good solid fighting dirk.
