Honestly, I think I'm more of a fan than a fur, but I'm not really sure, only a few people know that I am getting more in tune with my "Wild Side" as I like to call it, but the only ones who know are all on the computer. I guess I'm a closet fur in a sense, but I don't know enough to call myself a full fledged fur at the moment...I still have to learn the terms for just about everything... sweatdrop

I find anthro characters just...more interesting to draw, and furries themselves to just be interesting (more stories to tell, more accepting of things, ect ect)

people have asked me if I'm a furry (with that..condescending tone)
and first comes the "no" by me, followed by an "Oh yes you are" from them and blah blah blah, half an hour of explaining to them what a furry actually is (..which is pretty damn hard...I gotta say.so many intricacy's) later and then I get the "oooooh ok.." as they finally accept what I'm telling them

furry is not synonymous with porn...but many people think otherwise...which saddens me somewhat

That's part of the thing about it all

There is no set definition for furry

You'll get people who'll tell you furry is anyone who so much as glances at anthro art and doesn't hate it, and people who tell you that you have to have sex with dogs and run around in a fursuit and believe yourself to really be a fox on the inside or some shiza

Most people just kind of make their own definitions in between those two extremes, or others just accept them

The way I see it...if someone says they are a furry, then they are...simple, easy, no one gets offended, ect ect (not that there's anything wrong with it)

The fact that I'm here is simply because well...over the years, my art has attracted mostly furry attention to me...and most of my friends online are furry, so naturally I hang out with furries a lot, blah blah blah, long story short, call me what you will, cause either way I'm here

My parents didn't know what furry was until I told them. Their response was along the lines of "oh thank god there are other people like you." Suddenly they didn't have to worry about me being a lifelong social outcast. XD

Diana, I think you have it wrong. The main difference between furry and say, Anime fandom, is that we aren't all just fans. The majority of furry art is created by people within the fandom, whereas otakus have to rely on the various anime studios to create material for them. Furries are in general, more creative than the average fanboys/girls. And that, my dear, is what makes me proud.

I mainly agree with His reason. I enjoy that art sure anime ar is nice but there something about furry art that makes it more interesting. I dont know what it is but its just better.

I and about 5 furries I know in real life would disagree with this. we believe that identifying your personality with an animal on a spiritual level also makes your a furry.

What you're describing has been more popularly associated as therianism or being a therian or whatever that's called. The general idea is that therians are on the spiritual side while furries are on the "pop culture" side so to speak. Images, movies, music, costume, etc, that's furries. Spirits, souls, and deeper meanings are therians.
You can be a therian and not a furry, just as you can be a furry and not a therian.

The definition you gave has completely eliminated large chunks of the group from being part of it, even if most people would gladly include them as being a furry. I myself would probably be excluded as well, since I'm undergoing some "spiritual difficulties" lets just say. Even though I make art, porn, and even have a fursona, I wouldn't be considered "furry enough".

I think furries are awesome, but idk if i am one. I have a slight fursona, but it just basically who I am in animal form. Plus furry porn KINDA turns me on, but IDK... It depends, but I would never be considered "furry enough"... xd

I wouldn't say that I'm really a closet fur, I have a few non-furry friends who know that I'm a fur. I haven't explained it to my parents though, but that's not because that I'm afraid to or anything, it would just be a huge hassle to explain everything and whatnot. They've seen my fursuit, they just think it's cute.
I don't have a burning desire to tell the world that I'm a furry or anything, and it just doesn't really come up in conversation all that often with non-furs.

I'm closet fur in the case that I see no need to tell anyone that I'm a furry, and only a few friends (besides the friends I have in the fandom) know I am.


Pride means being proud of yourself as a person and who you are... saying that "I'm gay and I'm proud of who I am" is like a self-esteem thing. It's love of yourself for who you are.

Although you can be too proud to the point of egotism and narcissism.

I'm here for the art, companionship, and not so much for the vegetarianism and porn. I don't regard myself as having to make a total lifestyle change due to my preferences in drawn mediums anyways.
