xxx☼ The Wrath of the Gods...
The Bahari'mtoto Pride had lived in relative isolation for many years, untouched and untainted by the outside world. As pacifists they provoked no one and strove never to insult or offend. Guided by tradition and a respected ruler, their lives were peaceful and otherwise content. Alas, with a content life often comes complacency and when the pride grew forgetful of the blessings that the gods have graced them with, they were scorned.
...At least this is how the Bahari'mtoto regarded the tragedy that befell them.
On one of their finest mornings it struck, an almighty rumble deep within the ocean that caused the waters to rise. Towering over their heads menacingly, the mighty tsunami tore across the ocean and cast down upon the coastline with a mighty crash. It's destruction was unrivalled, tearing the land asunder and with it, the unsuspecting families that had been sleeping peacefully in their dens.
No one could have predicted that such an event would occur, but as the death toll rose it left a striking reminder of the trouble that complacency caused. Many were named as missing, some were killed and others severely injured... It was only with the assistance of passing rogues that the pride slowly but surely began to recover and rebuild, though their numbers were severely depleted and the once mighty pride, all but destroyed.
In the wake of the destruction the former king was pronounced dead, and it was at this point that a rogue lioness claiming distant relations to this royal line, that took the disputed title of leader.
She made many changes and not all of them were well received...
Nevertheless, her rule continued for quite some time until fate decided that her decision to ignore tradition was not appropriate. Thus, her father was 'sent' to locate her and in doing so, revealed himself to be the 'rightful' leader of the pride. There are rumours that he would have ignored this position if he had the opportunity, but when it became apparent that his daughter had acted dishonourably regarding certain aspects of this old and traditional pride, he recognised that it was his duty to restore the old ways.
Thus, the pridal leader 'Ram', a half-brother of the former king, rose to the rank of King and set about rebuilding the pride in its former image...though with the slightest of rogue flares!

xxx☼ A Blessing in Disguise...
Life within the Bahari'mtoto had always been one of peace, yet with the arrival of Ram there had been a number of changes that had left uncertainty in his wake - would he stay after he deemed his work 'done', was he even worthy of the post? He had never seemed terribly inclined towards them and seemed intent only on cleaning up the mess his daughter had made for the pride...Suffice it to say that the pride were uncertain about their own future.
It was for this reason that the gods must have deemed it necessary to test the resolve of the Bahari'mtoto and their leader, in the form of a neighbour who they scarcely knew existed...

xxx☼ Off Shore allies...Relationships with the Bahari'mtoto and the Kizingo'zaa were growing slowly and steadily. Day by day they grew to trust one another much more and as such, peace returned to the pride. Routine and tradition returned, each member growing accustomed to their new leader as well as their new found sense of security. They had passed through not one, but two trials and for now, they had been rewarded. They wanted for nothing and for them, it was a time to be thankful.
Yet who would have thought that the gods were not yet finished with this small and unassuming pride? For no sooner had they settled into their new routine than strangers washed up upon their shores and brought tales of islands in their midst. Though not entirely capable of coherent conversation at the time, the leopard had been taken into their care and when recovered he had granted them the information they sought.
These islands lay across the water, only reachable in low tide and lay home to three prides - two of these prides appeared to be at war, while the third was an unassuming leopard colony. A war for resources had begun between these prides as a result of the Tsunami and it had culminated into the kidnapping of a princess, one that threatened to be brought to the shores if the issue was not addressed.
Thus, diplomats were sent to these regions and an agreement was born - all three 'prides' would follow under the Bahari'mtoto banner. These prides would adhere to Bahari tradition and address the leadership as such - in return, they would have access to the resources on the mainland and want for nothing. It was an easy choice for those desperate for food and clean water - and thus, the Bahari territory grew just a touch...List of Contests - Character Concept
