And just as she'd run 'that way', Waseme came back from 'that way'; this time she flew. Among other things, Sen had gotten better at stopping. If she had a dead zebra for every time she crashed into something, she'd never go hungry. The stop in front of Nsundu and her first born was sudden, but smooth.
"Hey!" It was a cheerful voice, almost familiar, as if they had been friends since birth. She needed to sound that way for her pride. There were a lot of things she had to do.
Mwokoti landed behind her, and from one of her folded back white wings, a tiny pair of eyes peeked out--annnd immediatly drew back. Oh, crap! She didn't think Nsundu would be there. Had Kitambi ratted on her?!

Both Nsundu and Kitambi could only stare as Mwokoti came flying in, almost missing the arrival of the other lioness. While Kitambi's thoughts were more "Lions can fly?!" Nsundu had a question on her mind that just had to be asked. Introductions could come in a minute. This was a very important question.
"You don't change lion's fur colour, right?" She asked, eyeing the Goddess a little cautiously. After Kazi, she had every right to be wary of gods. Not that she thought a female god would be like Kazi, but you never knew. They could be all a bunch of idiots.
With that out of the way, she turned her attention to the lioness who nearly ran her over. Not that Nsundu minded. She was used to having lionesses in her personal space, and preferred it over having lions in her personal space. "Hey! Any reason you've come in here in such a rush? I mean I know we're loud, but I didn't think we were THAT loud yet." She was, of course, referring to the drums. The lioness really had no idea that they were bringing back her daughter.
Kitambi simply sat silently, face neutral as ever. She had nothing to add, so why bother?

Mwokoti and Kitambi were partially the same. Mwokoti didn't say anything either. She would have had something to say, if only to answer Nsundu. Sen would always speak up first. She'd learned by now not to bother.
"Change fur color?" Sure enough. "No, why would she?" Sen eyed the accuser with a confused stare. This pride was a bunch of whack jobs, if all Waseme said was true. Drums? Rhythm? Pssh! How ridiculous! "Actually, I came to bring back one of your cubs."
Waseme squeaked as Mwokoti shifted so she toppled off her back and onto the ground. "That's the one!" Sen merrily stated.

She wouldn't change her fur colour? Phew. That was a relief. 'Well I don't like being multicolours and this one lion with wings did it so I wanted to make sure nobody else could." Her solid brown fur was very important, k thanks. And don't let her hear that Sen thinks the pride is a bunch of wack jobs. Nsundu would have to... I dunno, bite her or something. Or maybe discuss. Yes, discuss. She was a female, after all.
It was Nsundu's turn to stare, confused, at Sen. Bring back one of her cubs? She only had two and they were right here in the Nchi lands—oh hey, it was Waseme! Fancy that! "Waseme! Just the cub I was looking for! I brought you something! Don't worry, there's one for your sister too so you don't get jealous and all that." The lioness beamed, before dropping the necklace over Waseme's head. "There. Beautiful.
"So... I don't think I got names?" Now that her daughter had her necklace, Nsundu turned her attention to the strangers.
Kitambi cocked an eyebrow at her sister, before turning her attention to the goddess. "I apologize for troubling you into bringing my sister back."

It wasn't obvious, but Mwokoti was distressed the most civil one of them present was a cub. Sen had matured, she'd agree, but only in some ways and even then it wasn't all that much. "It was no trouble."
Sen, as always, added her two cents. "Yep, no prob! I don't have any younger sisters, but I have brothers. Hey, if you guys ever wanna join a less weird pride, you should follow me. I'll give you important places." She winked meaningfully at Waseme, who was taken aback. If lions could, she'd have been blushing furiously as she stared down at the gift her mother had given her.
So what? It wasn't special. Kitambi had one too. They either both had one or only Kitambi had one. Pssh. They were one in the same, as far as she was concerned.

Kitambi nodded at Mwokoti's response, before turning her attention to the conversation between Sen and her mother. She wasn't going to instigate anything between her sister and herself. The cub was still digesting the fact that Waseme had run away.
"Join a less weird pride?" Nsundu repeated, raising an eyebrow. "Heeey now, I don't go berating you for hanging out with a winged lioness. Just 'cause we got some interesting traditions, we're still a pride. My pride, by the way," she stood up a little straighter, before she added, "Not that I don't support lionesses striking out on their own to form prides and all that, 'cause I do, but I can't just go up and leave my pride because a new offer comes along, Green-eyes."

Then and there, Mwokoti wanted to fall over dead. This would only result in her being reborn. If the act wouldn't be pointless, she'd consider suicide. Just so she didn't have to deal with what she knew was coming. The second Sen got that look she knew the gears were turning.
"Is that so?" The conversation was already strange. What Sen said sounded pretty discouraging, if not insulting, yet it was more of a playful arrogance than a demeaning one. "You call banging on loud objects a tradition? Psh, what are you gonna do if you get attacked, sing them to death? --And my name is Sen, Drum Girl."

Nsundu hadn't had any playful banter since she'd arrived in the Nchi lands. It had been all serious business like running a pride and taking lessons from Isi and making sure your cubs didn't wander too far (which she had failed at). Meeting an equally intelligent female who wasn't always asking her for guidance about Rhythm was exciting. It was almost like meeting a male she could boss around.
"I doooo, it helps you centre yourself and brings lionesses together!' Nsundu replied, grinning despite the almost-insult to her traditions. She hadn't said it was stupid, so all was well. "And we got lots of females here, so we'll survive any attack. Lots of dancing'll make you stronger, Seeeeeenny." Oh dear, she was breaking out the nicknames. "Females kick butt, and you know it. And it's Nsundu."

"Of course they do. I don't need to beat on some stupid drum to tell me obvious stuff like that," Sen's entire body and head tilted in a way that suggested she was the most arrogant lioness on the planet, and her tone was laced with over-confidence. "That's why females rank higher in my pride, too."
The 'too' came from assuming that must be the case here, since it was Nsundu's pride, and Nsundu was obviously female. "I don't think 'dancing' does anything but make you look like a freak, though."

"Well of course it's obvious." Duh. Nsundu had made sure to imprint it on every member of her pride, especially since they were (for the most part) all female. "Beating on a drum has nothing to do with females being awesome; it's just an added bonus." She was slightly pleased when the too was added, glad that Sen recognized that females were ranked higher in Nsundu's pride. That meant Sen was probably a high ranked female in her pride. Good on her. That was the way to go.
"Yeah well... you've never danced," Nsundu pointed out, "So you wouldn't know. And what makes your pride so special (eh)?"

High ranked nothing! She was the head hancho. The big cheese. The ruler. The Queen. The 'screw the rules I have money!' girl. She owned that pride! Juuust not enough to declare it that bluntly out loud. Because Mwokoti went on about it being Yue's pride too, and having to consult with 'advisors', and a bunch of boring blahblahblah stuff she didn't feel like hearing.
"Of course not. I wouldn't waste my time doing something like that. I could be hunting or something instead." Seriously, dancing? Lame.
..Uhhhh.
Uuhhhhh.
What did make her pride special?
"I'm in it," she declared finally. "That's enough of a reason."

See Nsundu didn't have to worry about councils and all that business. She didn't even have to take a mate if she didn't want to. The position was open to the father of her cubs, which could change depending on how many litters she had. But that was something to be thought about later. She had an heir, that was all she needed.
"You're in it?" The lioness repeated, unable to help but sound amused. "So you don't do any special rituals or anything but you say my stuff is weird? Come on now girl, you gotta do something neat!" How could she be a cool female without doing something special? Honestly, Sen.

"Of course we have special rituals," Sen supplied, adding a strong emphasis on the word 'course', as if her being in the pride was worth mentioning before that. "All the lions in my pride get reborn into the pride, and we have a ritual to determine which lion they are. Uh, were."
Man did that sound stupid. Sen didn't believe in any of that stuff. Her beliefs stretched as far as you live, you died, you rotted in the ground. But she wasn't enough into her opinion on the matter to give up her position as queen, so she sounded like she was convinced and acted it, too.
"Are you the queen?" Waseme piped up. She stood beside her mother now, observing the newcomer with a strange look she had never had before; a look of admiration.
The answer came laced with pride. "Sure am!"

"They get what?" What the heck was Sen talking about? Reborn, reborn... nope, she'd never heard that word before. Was it something she was supposed to know? Mmm... probably not. No harm in asking. "What do you mean 'reborn'? How do you reborn stuff?" Perhaps Sen was talking nonsense.
Kitambi glanced over at her sister when Waseme asked Sen if she was the leader. Huh, this was a new look for Waseme. Perhaps it would be better if they were separate, if only for a little while. After all, it wasn't as though they got along. Maybe, Waseme spent some time away from her sister she might actually miss her. Then maybe, just maybe, Waseme would be her friend. It was worth a shot.
"We could send someone to Sen's pride to see how lions get reborn, so that we can better understand it. That is, if Sen doesn't mind?"

Send someone with her? At first, Sen only tilted her head. It hadn't crossed her mind, but now that she thought about it... Yeah! Yeah, that was a good idea! An alliance was never a bad idea, and who better to have on her side than someone with such a good head on their shoulders like Nsundu? "Yeah, sure! I should send someone here, too!"
Waseme hadn't noticed who had made the suggestion, not really. Had she, she may have realized she was playing right into her sisters paws. But wasn't that always the case? "I'll go!"
"Alright, I'll take this one," a very happy Sen agreed. "I'll send someone your way pretty soon, Drummer Girl. Mwokoti'll bring em to you!"
The Goddess rolled her eyes. How'd she get drug into this? Sen grabbed Waseme by the skin of her neck and tossed her on Mwokoti's back. Again. "Make sure you hold on this time!" She turned and winked at Nsundu. "We'll see ya soon, then!"
