What I don't understand is the people who buy the cheap material so they can afford five changes of clothes, where their personna would only have the one. Now, I'm not going to run up and do the burn test on someone's garb, and for the most part I don't make a fuss about period materials, except when I get excited because I have them.
"And to make this color you dye the linen in woad twice, mater once, and the underdress would be dyed in woad once..." Someone walks by in a coathardie made out of teeshirt material, I'm too busy gushing, "Now, I bought it like this, so I have no idea what it was dyed in, but feel this linen. It's so nice."

Quote: +people who don't wear wool because they are "allergic". Yes, wool itches, you aren't allergic, true wool allergies are quite rare.
Perhaps, but one has to believe someone when they say they're allergic to something. Very bad things happen to a person when something they're allergic to gets into their system. Hives may be merely unpleasant, but swelling throats and anaphylactic shock are not to be trifled with.
I have no particular beef with your other pet peeves. After all, we're all interested in different aspects of the game. But when it threatens someone's health, I absolutely draw the line. If a tankard on someone's belt is going to remind them to take a drink on a hot day, if the only footwear someone has that is warm enough to prevent someone from getting frostbite are modern, if a synthetic wool is used to prevent an allergic reaction, I'm not going to argue with the person about it. Ever.
Just my two cents on the matter.
Sarah T. Foole.
agreed, the sca does try to be as close to peroid as possible, but we never ever endanger lives in the process,
i have a sotory on a man in heavy armored comabt that decided he was going to wear a camelbak drinking system under his armor, wich he filled with red coolaid no doubt, during the battle the bladder ruptured, causing red liquid to pour out. the referees though it was blood and stopped the entire battle, untill it was realized that it was only a yummy beverage.
the morals, use blue collaid, SAFTEY IS PARAMOUNT, your garb dosen't have to be completely up to historical accuracy, some things are acceptable

Kittywitch Something else I feel the need to vent about: Bad japanese. People who don't have a japanese personna, don't do the research for the garb, and run about in what looks like pajama pants with ties on the side because they aren't full enough to pleat into hakuma and vaguely kimono-like shirt. I think they just like to run around with katanas. neutral
Are you serious? That hurts my brain and makes me sad. If you wanna run around with katana's do so but make a persona that you can acctually do the garb for. Make a back story about how you traveled the world and got them from japan or something for f--ks sake. >.<

For most of the time, neither knew the other was there.
Another bad garb you've reminded me of... too many periods or continents in one outfit.
