"I dunno," Shishi answered, "But it could be King instead, since I have brothers, too. Anyway, I think she just does, but maybe Jabali knows." But at the same time, Jabali tended to listen to what his mate told him just as much as the children did, so maybe not.
Quieting for a moment, the juvenile took a good look at Kivuli in the tree, deciding how best to go about this. Finally, she clambered on top of him as best she could - awkwardness was hard to avoid when you were trying to stand on someone.

"I see. Well... good luck then?" He wasn't quite sure if that was the right thing to say, but it sounded good enough. Kivuli had never really given too much thought about who was going to be queen or king of the Swamplands. Perhaps he had better pay a little more attention and meet all of the candidates. He would ask his mother when he got home. She would know. According to Kivuli, his mother knew everything.
The young lion gave a small grunt when she got up on him, planting his black feet into the mud in the hopes of staying balanced. It would have been a much more successful operation if he was older and bigger, but then again she would probably be older and bigger as well. They would just have to make do with this. "Can you get them?" He could only hope that she wouldn't try and grab him with her claws if she slipped.

"I...think..." Shishi reached with her paw once, testing, then frowned and tried again. It was so close! "Maybe..." Adjusting her footing on Kivuli's back, she rose up on her hind paws and leaned one paw carefully on the tree. With the other, she tried again to reach the shinies.

Kivuli planted his feet firmly in the ground as Shemshi moved on his back, trying to see what she was doing around his small tuft of mane. Darn that mane tuft! It was getting in the way of what she was doing! The young male craned his neck backwards to look up at the tree, hoping to get a better look at what Shemshi was doing. It was awkward, but at least he could see a little better.
"Be careful!" He hissed, feeling one of his feet begin to slide on the wet ground. If she didn't hurry up and grab the stuff he had a nasty feeling they were both going to end up with a face full of mud. That was definitely not on his list of things to do today.

As it turned out, it wasn't Kivuli's footing that gave out - the tree succumbed first. In her attempts to hurry up, she leaned too much, and the poor old tree just couldn't take anymore. Down it went, and she went with it, unable to do much more than scrabble uselessly and yelp.
So much for master plans and shiny things!

The young male was quite surprised when the weight was suddenly lifted from his back. Where had Shemshi gone? Did she jump up into the tree or something? That couldn't be possible. The tree wouldn't have supported her we—oh no the tree! Kivuli whirled around to see the tree on its way down down, giving a startled yelp of his own. The shines! They were going to end up in the mud now! Noooooo!
Of course, there was always Shemshi, but the young female's safety came after he had mourned the loss of his shinies. "Don't fall funny!" It was really the best advice he could give, seeing as Kivuli was not in any mood to jump in after her. Besides, she would probably yell at him for trying to drag her out of the swamps. He would offer her a stick to grab onto, if she needed it. That counted as helping, right?

Had she not been in the middle of falling, Shemshi would have scoffed at what stupid, useless advice that was; as it was, she barely even heard it. She splashed down into shallow water and came up flailing and coughing, having sucked in water. Uuuuugh! It made her nose burn.
She continued to splutter as she dragged herself back up onto solid ground, very wet and very unhappy.

Ooooh... perhaps this was the best time to retreat. Kivuli was quite sure that Shemshi would have his head if he stayed. At the very least she would probably chase him or try to bite his tail, and the juvenile was not prepared to hang around to see. He had heard that when girls got angry there was serious trouble, and the young lion knew that if he had fallen into the swamp he would be angry. Scratch that and make it "very angry."
As Shemshi came spluttering out of the water, the young male offered her a cheesy smile, hoping to calm her at least a little bit. Just to be safe, however, he took several steps back as he gave his goodbye. "Well... it was nice working with you, but I better get back before my mom gets upset!" Without a second glance Kivuli bolted, fleeing back to the protective warmth of his mother. Flee before the scary girl attacked!
