Sports effect on the war

I think that sport has made quite an impact on war.

E.g. In world war 1 Germany and Britain played football at christmas. Sport in war (the olympics) offers a time where there is no fighting and no dieing/deadly injuries. It offers peace and healthy competition.

we find a way to compete in all that we do. war and sports all come to the same conclusion there will be a winner, and frankly we all want to win. we try to avoid war by playing sports but what do you all think does it work?
