It was a liberating day when I stopped really caring how my avatar 'matched', colour-wise. From then on I just started playing around with it thinking, how ridiculous (and/or creepy) can I make it?

Yours... is actually pretty neat. Looks to me like an alien (or possibly undead) postapocalyptic space pirate. I would give it 8/10.
