I'm not familiar with the Arriva Bus service, but I'll say this:

If it's a privately owned corporation which busses for profit, they can do whatever the hell they want.

If it's a publically owned or government-organized system made purely for public service, it's a bit more questionable.

Can someone fill me in on whether Arriva is one or the other? And if the goths in question had other mass-transit options available?

Hmm...
Im not sure that the whole picture was there...news things can be som puzzle broken.
But like others have said, there is a time for certain things and what they were doing would be very harmfull if fate was against them. Maybe the collar would have been fine, (I love collars Lol~) but the lead was a bit much and a high consideration of a threat taken in any form possible.

XXX Zombie Porn

I use Arriva buses and other companies alot and were I live that's probably a huge exxageration and I live in a really run down, shitty area.
It may not be an ideal environment for kids but these too are no reason to make it any worse.

Around Luton the buses get so much scum, a couple dressed kinky is the least of your worries.

I wouldn't let those two jackoffs on a bus either.

If I was the bus driver I just would have asked them to take the lead off since like many other people have said, it is not a good site for children to see and most parents probably don't want to have to explain that to young children until a much older age.

I won't say anything about the incedent, but rather about your opinions on the matter. I think... That (one of) your comment on "forcing our lifestyle on people" is completely dumb. They are not forcing thier lifestyle on anyone. Forcing it on someone would be like... Trying to get them into the collar. Bringing your mate along on a collar is not a bad thing. And, furthermore, on the same comment, again, nothing is forced... If they dislike the outfit, or the accessories, they may, as we all may, choose to avert thier eyes. It would be no different if it wasn't worn. Both ways, no one would see it. Not one person forced anyone to look at this couple, and therefore there is no problem with anything going on.

On another note... About the children...

What do we see on T.V....? What type of movies are available to the youngest of children? You think a chain from wrist to neck is the worst thing they have seen? Are you all in denial, or are you just dumb? On another note, to the same topic... It is not something that should be hidden from children... We are not something to be hidden from children. We are different, and they need to see ALL of the world, when they are young. Or they may be trained to instantly descriminate against those with our chosen lifestyle when they are older, simply because thier parents didn't like us. Again... Makes no sense... I find it appalling that in the "Got Goth?" Guild, and with all the "goths" in here, that somehow, we are saying about ourselves that we SHOULDN'T be accepted by the general community.... What have we been striving for, and for how many years? Not popularity, by any means... I am sure that we all would like a little understanding! Do you like walking through the mall, and seeing young children's parents steer them fifty feet away from you, because you have a shirt with some studs on it??? How dumb! I have never been so dumbfounded by a statement from another person who is claiming "goth." You all absolutely astound me...

Do any of you see how you even make any sense?

((For anyone who read this whole thing, even if you didn't like what I said, or even find me a complete idiot, I must thank you for reading my entire rant... Have a nice evening!))

The matter is still one of public decency, somethings you can do in a club or in private just shouldn't be done in public, wear a collar fine, take a lead, fine, but when in the street, unhook the lead or have it worn as a tie.

Not the point. As I said... I was not addressing thier attire... ((By the way, I think that people should be free to wear whatever they may wish to, but this is besides my above point...)) I am addressing the way the so-called goths of this guild are sitting there, acting as though they disapprove of themselves...

Pretty damn sure most of us have meant to disapprove of their fetish display; not their affiliation with goth.

They seem like a very sweet couple, but have a lot to learn just as anyone.

I think they should've just taken the chain off. Her safety should be in his best interest and if people say it's dangerous maaaaybe he should listen. I don't think their public display is bad. But it seems like he's not as good to her as he should be.
But hey, that's just their lifestyle I guess.

I think the driver might have overreacted, but really, walking around with a chain and collar around your neck in public isn't appropriate (unless it's Halloween. Maybe.)

I'd never do something like that, because I know it's abnormal and can make people uncomfortable. It's pretty aggressive to force others to deal with your alternative lifestyle like that.

I read the story on my friend's Xanga, which, is devoted entirely to Fetishes and Goth. I honestly saw no problem with it and am really thankfull we're having more movements like this:

-Goth Help Us (RIP; Defunct as of 2007)
-Gothic Liberation Front

I'm really surprised at the responses from the guild... I don't see what the problem with this is.
How is a collar and chain worse than the street clothes some people wear? A large part of the population has a breast fetish, so women have their boobs hanging out of their shirts. But a collar, which, in fact, even covers up skin, rather than showing more, is worse?
And even if it does make people uncomfortable--
Did I miss something? When did we start caring about that? O_o I understand being considerate and not being obnoxious, but I hardly think wearing odd clothing is going to hurt anyone else other than the occasional overly conservative type, in which case...well, they can get over it.
