jeremyf 1337 5p34k 15 /3ry b4d //3 5h0|_||_d n0t T4|_K 1n 1t ... huh??? confused It annoys the hell out of me, because I can hardly read it. I can understand if somebody uses it for, like, one or two words in a sentence, such as-- I lik3 1337 5pe4k, or-- I l0/3 th4t!! (Stupid examples, yea, I know.. xp ) But anyways-- If someone configures a sentence from it, such as the one above, it not only makes my brain run in circles and practically implode, it pisses me off.

jeremyf 1337 5p34k 15 /3ry b4d //3 5h0|_||_d n0t T4|_K 1n 1t Rough translation: leet speak is very bad you(?) should not talk in it Also, it's pretty impressive that they figured this laguage out, but it's just so hard to read!

I only use leet for humorous purposes.
There's a robot in one of my comics named LE-37.
And a brand of clock named Cl0xx0rz.

Leet is an old form of computer talk. Its not meant for humans its meant for computers. I think its very annoying how people use it now.

I am quite guilty of saying w00t, but otherwise, no 1337 here.

Hah. I've never really used leet speak...except for my trademark phrase of 'don8 pl0x'. That's basically it.
Personally, I find leet speak really difficult to understand. So, I either tell the speaker to use proper English, or I just ignore them.

I don't use it and can barely understand it. That leet thing that was in here earlier - it took me about thirty seconds to decode. I can read and type much faster in normal English (and Spanish!) than in 1337.

Some people have their minds wired in strange ways...and start speaking in their weird 1337 language.
I seriously wonder if they can really understand such words.
wh47 1f 1 5t4rt3d t4lk1ng l1k3 ....this?
I mean...can you really understand what I'm trying to say?
(btw....it's: what if I started talking like...this?) I couldn't handle the stress of typing that out completely. sweatdrop

I feel that 1337 speak is.. like everything else. Positively horrible in excess, but moderately useful in small doses. One time I was playing Guild Wars, and it happened that midway through a mission, my 'q, w, e, r, t, and y" keys ceased to function. I did resort to 1337 speak to explain to my group that I was communication-impaired due to a improperly functioning keyboard.
It does have uses, but using for the sake of showing that you can is like adding math problems to an English essay.
"and so the Great Houdini- oh, by the way, 2+2=4- lead the masses..."
Which is rather ridiculous.

~ Nusi N. Goddess of the Moon 'What if I started talking like...this?' Yes, I can comprehend it, seeing that I do know 1337 speak. Again, it has come in handy on occasion, but I agree it is -mostly- pointless.

I read this online manga that uses it for one of it's characters. It's too hard to read and I hate it...

Bah, 1337 is used solely for the entertainment of whoever is typing it. The point? To be so friggin' 31337 that you're the only one who knows what you've typed. Hence the many variations.
It's hilarious and I am extremely amused by people who refuse to type any other way. It takes skill. How dedicated can you get?! Even I haven't gotten around to composing a LiveJournal entirely in 1337 yet.

It's funny to hear about it. It's not funny to read it. I'd rather prefer to stab my eyes out than read 'leet'. Ugh.
