It is a strip of fabric/cloth. But completely meaningless nonetheless.

AKs have the gas tube goes on the top of the barrel. The M14 (and it's varients) have the gas tube on the bottom of the barrel.

clearly, this is an M21.

Anyway, the 'flash hider' doesn't look like anything that I have seen on an AK. So that's one reason I didn't think it was one.

Also with it's positioning if it was an AK you could probably see the magazine jutting out. neutral

Mag in his left hand is (what apears to be) a standard 20 round rectangular mag, as would be seen for an M14 varient.

Necro seems to be rampant as of lately.

Heh, I don't think that an ex-sergeant in the Marine Corp that served in vietnam would go with anything BUT an M14. xd
