Her ears flattened and she frowned when she said she'd lost her mate before they had any cubs. That was really sad, especially for a cub who only had a fairy-tale imagination where love was concerned. She didn't know the whole story about her parent's relationship and was oblivious to the vague rumors that some of the pride knew. And having cubs seemed like a pretty important part of being in love to her.
"Why aren't they here with us?" she asked curiously, thinking first about how her mother's brother was gone, "Are they lost like uncle Otieno?"

"I only saw them the once when they were newborns. Things were a rather hectic back then, and I think their mother wanted to take them away somewhere safe. So they must have got lost." She explained, hoping that was true. She had no idea that the stranger Xiu Xiu had been a goddess, nor of the curse that the goddess' mother had placed on him. And she definitely didn't want to think her brother had willingly taken his family from the pride...
"Maybe the Great Lion will guide them home one day, like your uncle Otieno." Zizi school her features into a hopeful smile.

"Oh," she mumbled, knowing some vague details about the war and everything so figuring that must have something to do with it. It was a touchy subject for both of her parents sometimes, so she was smart enough not to press the subject with Zizi. Mention of the Great Lion guiding them home took Alcmene's gaze back up to the sky and to the moon. He had a lot to watch, that Great Lion. All of them, and there seemed to be quite a lot of them in the pride, and then all the ones who were lost..
But there had to be a reason he was called 'great'!
"Yeah!" she agreed confidently, looking back at Zizi- and from the corner of her eye catching sight of a familiar white figure heading this way. Her father was finally out looking for her, it was getting pretty late. With a squeak, she got up and scrambled to the opposite side of Zizi where she would be harder to spot.
"I think I have to go," she said in a hushed voice.

"Yes, I think you better had. It is getting late." Zizi, dropped her head to look down at the cub and lowered her voice too. She couldn't help a soft chuckle though. "I hope your parents haven't been worried about you being out so late - blame it on me and my old stories if you want."
She nudged the girl with the flat of her nose, encouraging her to go meet her father rather than hide behind her. Zizi was sure Unyezi wouldn't be mad. Besides, his daughter was a delight to talk too. Nice and curious.

"Ok," she said with a slight whine of disappointment in her voice, she'd been having fun talking to Zizi- she was funny and friendly. She laughed when Zizi nudged her, and returned with a playful headbutt before this time hopping over the older lioness' paws to see just where her dad was now.
"It'll be ok, daddy won't get mad if I was talking to you," she said confidently, it was better than her being off and getting into any kind of trouble- or finding someone like uncle Njiru (even though she hadn't really met him yet, though that was how daddy seemed to want it). "If I think up a nickname, I'll come and tell you, kay?"
With a last smile at Zizi, she scrambled down to go and face her father.
