Reminder

This is just a reminder for the duel system:

Official duels must be between two EQUAL age fighters for it to be considered a duel.

It's perfectly fine if you want to stage play fights, but please remember that a "win" against an older opponent carries absolutely no weight in the pride.

Firekin Megaplot 2009

As some of you may have noticed, the Firekin megaplot began this week. This RP will run for four weeks, with the last RP being held on the fifth week. I hope you'll all have as much fun reading and/or taking part as we had in organising it and putting everything together.

There'll be a megaplot RP log found in this post so you can read things through in the correct order and better make up your mind who the murderer might be!

At this point in time, no one (players included) except for DFA, Mims and Kim know who the murderer is.

Also, just a reminder for all of those who didn't manage to win a character in the RP contest:

There are two secret prizes up for grabs which are available to win through two different ways.

The first prize will be given to the first person who sends in the correct answer. The second prize will be raffled between all those who guessed right during the entire event.

All you have to do to be in for a chance of winning is, using clues revealed in the RP, guess, correctly, who the murderer is and why they committed the crime. Simple, right? =D

Please fill in the form below when sending in your attempt to the Firekin mule, Motoujamii Lands:

Username:

The Murderer is...

Because...

Okay, and here is the RP log so far:

Welcome to a brand new year, everyone!

This being the first announcement of 2010, there's quite a lot to say and for everyone to note, but we'll keep it as brief as possible! The first thing to say is that the megaplot will hopefully be reaching its conclusion sometime very soon. Watch this space for more information on this!

Now, onto the changes and updates:

Firstly, we'd like to stress again the importance of proper naming for Firekin. For those breeding their Firekin, please pass on this information to the owners of the cubs. We shall be checking this, guys, and any cub not properly named will be deemed a huria and asked to leave at adolesence.

Secondly, the memberlist. It's badly out of date and needs to be updated with the growths and new litters. So, please can you post updated information in the thread newly created, here.

There is also going to be a slightly updated version of the apprentice application thread to hopefully get things running easier.

And finally, we'll be looking into filling some of the higher ranks that are still available.

Members List

Is now as up-to-date as we can get it! Thanks to everyone who posted Firekin images! That was a huge help!

Change to breeding form

Please note that there is a new change in the rules for those wanting to breed their Firekin. Now, when your litters arrive, you are expected to post the litter's images and information along with a link to their name's meaning. This is because there is a huge amount of cubs whose names are not permitted in the pride, or that a meaning cannot be found for them.

People who do not post the info for their litter will not be permitted to apply for another breeding.

The thread for posting litters can be found here.

This rule comes into action as of today.

Thanks!

Member List

The Firekin member list is now as up-to-date as we could get it (not including the most recent breeding in the pride – which will be added as soon as all images arrive). It has also been modified so that each Firekin is now listed with his or her parent details (if known). Hopefully this will help with some of the confusion going on with Firekin ancestry and who is related to who.

We are still missing a few certs and,in some cases, any image at all. If you own one of the Firekin where this is the case, please could you send their image/cert to the mule so that it can be added.

You can find the Firekin Memberlist here

And, we would also like to point Firekin owners towards the new Firekin Mini-Plot that should be starting soon. All the information you need can be found in this thread. Applications will be open until all slots are filled, so get in quickly before time runs out.

New Rank: Battlemaster

The pride now has a new rank for the duelers- the battlemaster! The battlemaster is an elite rank: their battle poweress is a model to other firekin. The battlemaster answers directly to the general and the regents, and often form the front line in assaults. While they do not have troops to command themselves, they represent the top fighters of the firekin.

This rank may be attained by successfully winning [or tying] in 10 duels!~ JRP duels with rogues do count and are encouraged. When you've completed your rps, send the links to the mule to be approved!

Thanks!

Major Information Dump

This is the first of several announcements that'll probably go out this week. Please excuse the mess while we reorganize some info in effort to make the forum more accessible to new and old members alike. While we fix some broken links and missing info, please make sure to:

- Check out the new ranks! We've added SEVERAL to the list which will be covered in a future announcement. We will be approaching some people to play various ranks, and others will be contested off.

- If your rank vanished [or the requirements have changed], do not panic! You may either keep your rank as a special rank for your character alone, or 'trade' it for an equivalent rank. This will only be affecting maybe one or two people in the pride, and they are welcome to PM us.

- Check out the info! We've consolodated a lot of firekin info into one spot. If you feel anything is missing or should be addressed, please PM the mule.

Super super big thanks to Kimaria, Ecavi for betaing, and Saf for cleaning up the mess! heart

EDIT:

If you applied for a breeding and have been accidentally removed from the list, please send a note to the mule. You weren't purged for any reason, I just cleared the list since it looked like all breedings were completed.

New Rank info Part 1: The Captain!

Quote:
Captain

Leadership: Brigadier

There are two types of captains in the firekin, each charged with managing a separate branch of the military. They are usually the 'leaders' of groups of five to ten.

Guard captains manage a platoon of guards. She will join them in training, work them until they are exhausted and make sure their team is at the top of their game. They work with the Sergeant to plan rotation hours to ensure the pride is well protected. A team of guards often looks up to their captain as both boss and friend, and groups of guards are among the tightest cliches in the pride.

Offense captains lead a small team of soldiers. Like his counterpart, he will join their group in training sessions. While they do not have the same rotation hours that guards do, the offense captain ensures that all training sessions are completed each day. It is the Captain's job to make sure his or her team does not falter.

Daily duties might include;

- Working with the troops
- Managing patrol routes
- Policing
- Managing the rogue population
- Training and mock spars
- Escorting important officials

The first rank that has received a revamp is the captain rank. It is no longer an RP-required rank, but instead requires an 'event' to be completed. What sort of event is that you say?!

Well, in order to become a captain your SOA must organize a team of individuals under their command, and pick a name for their group. These groups may be used for future war game events...or maybe they'll just be for funsies! We shall see how they go.

What SOA can become a captain?

To become a captain, you must be either a soldier or a guard. [or any military rank.]

How does my SOA become a captain?

They must get 3-4 other guards OR soldiers to sign up underneath their command. Once they have formed a 'group', they are considered to be an active squad. They'll pick a callsign, and during games will be referred to as [Callsign] team. For example:

Team Phoenix:
Captain: Veru
Soldier: Ea
Soldier: Vlam
Soldier: Elcca

[Completely fictitious, of course!]

And that's it! Apply for cert change. Yaaay. emotion_jawdrop

Does our callsign show up on our cert?

I need to check with shop first! But ideally, yes. Your name would be [Callsign] Team, instead of clan, house, ect.

Can I own an entire team, or have more than one of my characters in a team?

Absolutely!

If you're interested in becoming a captain, please check out the following thread to find some teammates!

New Rank Info Part 2: The Sentin
el!

Quote:
Sentinel

While most of the army is based in the pridal lands, recent events have spurned the firekin to become more expansionist. Sentinels are elite groups of warriors whose sole job is simply to make firekin presence known to the rest of the world. Their job is twofold: to inspire fear and respect, but also direct worthy recruits back to the pride.

While outside the lands, the Sentinel is something of a mercenary. He can take jobs for other prides under the Legate's permission. He must carefully judge situations, and be aware of how his actions effect the Motoujamii's relationship with the outside world.

Rotations of sentinels last only about a month at a time. For the time when Sentiels are off duty, they are expected to return to their ranks. They are also sent to the educators and historians to update their records about the outside world.

It is very common for a huria to be apprenticed to a sentinel.

Daily duties might include;

- Wandering the savannah in small groups
- Offering mercenary type assistance to worthy prides
- Keeping tabs on rival groups
- Directing worthy rogues to the pride lands
- Escorting ambassadors, hurias, and watchers outside the pride
- Keeping enemies from the pride

[Off duty]

- Assisting in daily guard/soldier practices
- Attending historian lectures
- Advising magistrates.

Availability: OPEN
Acquired By: Event only
-- Must:
1. Be a birth member of the pride, OR, a rogue member for six months [Real Time]
2. Have two other lions in your group

The next rank we'll discuss is a completely new rank called the Sentinels. The Sentinels are essentially firekin with the permission to travel outside firekin lands, and act as mercenaries or 'recruiting agents' outside the pride.

Like guard and soldier groups, Sentinels also receive a team name, although due to the smaller sized groups, there is no designated leader. All sentinels report to the Legate, who at the moment will be played by Kaelyndra // Moto'Seide.

Sentinels will not leave the pride lands just yet, but you are welcome to start gathering people up for small groups. Some important things to note:

- Sentinels are not ambassadors, and are expected to still return to the pride frequently.
- Sentinels may not breed while outside the lands, unless they have permission from the mule. [And this is likely to be rare.]
- Sentinels may not cause problems without the okay from either the mule, or an IC permission from Seide.
- Only birth members of the pride, and rogues who have been members for more than 6 months may be sentinels. Hurias may choose to become 'unofficial' Sentinels for the pride.

Next up: General promotions!

Language Information!

Since a lot of people were interested in using this system, I've gone ahead and written up a formal lore dump for it! If you have any further questions or ideas, just let us know!

Lore: Northern Dialect

The Hongshan and Nergui are from lands far north of SOA, past a fairly large desert which connects to the Motoujamii. Because of this distance, lions from the region speak what is called the northern dialect.

The Hongshan were somewhere in the middleground between the two groups, and some Hongshan members may choose to use this language as an RP flair. Not all Hongshan are required to speak this! Rogues who have traveled may also choose to make their character understand this language. If Hongshan do not speak the dialect, they may still understand a few words as they grew up around the culture.

Most firekin will not speak it, instead favoring the common SOA dialect. Its possible a few historians or teachers have learned it from some Hongshan.

But what is the northern dialect, and how do we make it work in RP?

The first thing you'll need is a link to this handy-dandy language garbler. You do not have to use it, but it makes things much simpler. We tend to use the setting "harsh 1" or "harsh 2" for northern dialects.

Type what your character is speaking into the box. [or copy pasta.] It will garble the words for you, instantly making you look more intelligent! [wooow]

But WAIT. How do we know what anyone is saying?

There are several ways to do this! You may either:

Quote:
Elcca turned towards the group. "I don't think that's a very wise idea."

In this sense, the assumption is both characters understand the language and the italics simply indicate, ICly, they are speaking the other language.

Quote:
Elcca turned towards the group. "I dum's sremd sros'k o qarae veka edao." It didn't seem like a very good idea to her.

This way essentially just includes a paraphrased translation in the text.

exclaim You may also choose to PM, or instant message people the direct translation to your RP.

But what about Nergui?

Nergui characters use both languages to disorient those who speak to them. Essentially, the pattern is:

Common word, fake word, common word, fake word.

So an example of something a nergui might say: "I doesnt sremd like o good veka to ada."

However, like anything lets go over some ground rules:

1. This is not an all encompassing dialect. It applies to the firekin, and anyone who wants to use characters from around the Hongshan/Nergui area. It is NOT a be all end all for all northern area speech.
2. The purpose of this language is just for fun, it is NOT to make people feel intimidated or confused in your RP. Please be considerate.
3. Obviously, none of us speak this random gibberish. If you are playing with someone who also understands your words, either use common, or provide them with a translation.

[REPOST FROM EVENT THREAD]

So we are entering a new plot phase! For the next month or two, many plots will involve incidents outside of the Motoujamii. Including other prides! That's right, its crossover time!

There will essentially be "two" stages to this roaming event. During an ORP game, the firekin will be in a contested territory with another group. When an ORP is not going on, firekin are free to scout terrain and interact with whomever they'd like in roguelands.

This event will not last permanently. So expect an update in the future for when travel restrictions change.

User Image

Some OOC Notes!:

- For these outside events, any TWO of your firekin will be granted a 'free' sentinel pass.

That means that you may select two of your firekin to RP outside of the lands for these events. Your firekin will be temporary sentinels, and not lose their current jobs.

- If you wish, you may remain on as sentinels.

You will not need to complete the required tasks for sentinel, but you must have at least one plot ORP. [This is open to ALL adult SOA on the firekin cert, regardless of how long they've been in the pride. But only for this event.]

- From now on, firekin are given more freedom to travel and RP in roguelands.

However ICly, no firekin should leave home without returning with word for more than a month at a time. And again, you may only have up to two members outside of the pride at any given time.

- If you choose to be one of these roaming firekin, you are welcome to run your own plots if you wish. But if there is anything you feel may cause trouble for the Motoujamii, please run it by us first.

- Firekin are open to acting as mercenary type figures when they are not currently claiming war assets.

- ALL FIREKIN OUTSIDE THE PRIDE ICLY REPORT TO MOTO'SEIDE. It should be assumed that any firekin who choose to be roaming during this event should at least assume they check in frequently for updates.

User Image

Note for other pride owners:

Additionally, if you are a pride owner and are interested in having a 'firekin' style ORP event in your lands- PM the mule! We can donate firekin prizes if we want to do a joint group raffle, or just do a standard RP!

We may not be able to do one for everyone, but we'd be happy to do as many as we can fit in the time period that the plot allows.

If you are interested in being involved, contact the mule or Mimsey/Kimaria.

FAQ:

1. Why only two firekin?!
a. Not all of the pride is leaving, and this just allows everyone who wants to play outside the lands the ability to do so, without also looking like the pride is going unprotected. For people with only a few firekin, this isn't an issue. For people with lots, you'll need to select the two you want to RP the most.

2. Can we rogue breed while traveling?
a. No, you may not.

3. Can non-firekin SOA join in on these events?
a. It will depend on the event, but there will be some that allow rogues of any kind to join!

4. I WANT TO KILL PEOPLE!
a. Lets hold off on that just yet! While you're free to involve your firekin in outside plots, we do ask that you do not directly harass other prides without OOC approval from us and that pride's owners. [or else risk getting in trouble back home!]

[When we are playing in other pride's lands, YOU BETTER BE ON YOUR BEST BEHAVIOR BROS NO BREAKING ANY FURNITURE OR PUTTING FEET ON THE COUCHES. ]

Nergui Information!

The pride information thread has been updated with 'currently known' info about the mysterious Nergui! Expect it to become clearer as the plot continues.

Quote:

Current Nergui Leader: Unknown [??]

The pride of lions dubbed 'Nergui' by the Hongshan for the lack of a name have made their presence known to the Firekin in the way that only 'monsters of the north' could. An attack on a border patrol that left one dead and many wounded has - unsurprisingly - been taken as an act of war. The Nergui are now considered enemies of the Firekin.

Nothing much is known about these barbaric lions. Nothing except that they are cruel and talented in the art of destruction. There have been many rumours and many theories and as time passes more about this strange people is sure to be unravelled.

User Image

Known History

The current history of the Nergui is made up of scraps of information gained from the escaped Hongshan slaves and a great deal of guesswork. As such, the accuracy of this second-hand information should not be taken at face value.

It is assumed that the Nergui originated in the far northern reaches of the land, led by a figurehead known only as Graos Oma. An isolated pride unknown to most of the outside world, they spent years developing their culture, even going so far as to create a language that only their people could understand. This garbled language - a mix of both northern and common tongues - is near impossible for anyone to decipher; the words being pronounced so differently that they hardly mirror their founding languages. This allowed them to keep their secrets and perhaps even kept intruders from infiltrating into their ranks.

After a time, for some unknown reason, the Nergui began to leave their homeland and spread south, moving in small groups so as to avoid attention. It is assumed that the bulk of their forces stayed behind and perhaps still remain there to this day; waiting for some sign to emerge and wreak havoc wherever they tread.

These vanguards of the Nergui travelled down into the lands with an unsettling confidence. They did not slip quietly by so as to be unnoticed but marched through the lands, chanting their haunting battle-songs as they went. If they came across a group of lions they would scout the lands, estimate numbers and draw on their own strength to slaughter and enslave. Why they chose to spare some over others remains a mystery though it has been theorised that they showed interest in certain qualities in these lions, specifically around odd markings.

It is not known how many prides the Nergui have destroyed or absorbed into their own ranks, only that the Hongshan were certainly not the first. By the time they reached the land of the red mountains, the lions were well practised in their art and after some attempts at communication, the Nergui fell upon the Hongshan in a bloody fury. The Hongshan - though talented warriors - did not have the numbers to hold against these barbaric creatures and fell swiftly. Most died on the battlefield though a select few were enslaved and herded swiftly to the Nergui's main encampment. However, they did not stay in one place for long, moving across the lands - seemingly without any clear direction. Yet, each and every time they stopped to gather, the slaves were set about with strange and seemingly meaningless tasks. It still remains unclear exactly what these tasks accomplished or whether they were simply to keep the slaves occupied and too tired to escape.

It was, of course, only a matter of time before their travels took them to the desert of the Motoujamii; crossing the borders into Firekin lands. And whatever it is that has drawn them there the only thing that is clear is that they are not going to leave without a fight. They intend on bloodshed.

User Image

Culture

Not much is known about the culture of this strange pride, though it is clear that they are a barbaric and merciless people who, most likely, encourage their young to mirror this behaviour as they grow. As they keep slaves it is believed that they think themselves superior to others (much as the Firekin do).

A pride that puts much faith in strength means that, in all likelihood, the males are the ones who take precedence with the higher ranks. However, during the offensive action taken against the Firekin patrol, females were also sighted amongst those who instigated the attack. As such it is likely that both genders are taught - and expected - to fight when the need calls for it.

It is also becoming clear that the group seem to have rather superstitious habits. Reports from the Hongshan indicate that rogues who bear strange markings or have unusual coloured eyes are favoured above those without. These ones are treated less roughly than those without and seem to have a higher survival rate. No reason, as of yet, has been given for this strange favouritism, though likely the Nergui read some strange symbolism into the pelt-markings.

Unfortunately, nothing is known of what motivates this strange group. Only that they follow the word of a mysterious Graos Oma who is believed to be the Nergui ruler.

User Image

How they are viewed by the pride:

Now that the Firekin are on high alert after the recent attack on the borders, any lion in the area believed to be a Nergui will be attacked on sight.
