"You should probably let me up before anyone sees us like this," Nyota suggested after a long moment during which there was no movement from Mvua. As much as the demon deep inside him loved the terror in her eyes, he restrained it. She had done well and learned quickly, and he would not punish her for that. Even he wasn't that cruel, although it was certainly a thin line he danced the edge of at times.

Mvua's eyes twitched and came back into focus, and she mechanically released her captive, stepping off awkwardly. "S-sorry," was all she managed to stutter out, and she bowed to her master's son, slightly embarrassed. Nyota was right - he would probably be punished if it seemed like he had let a slave beat him. That, in turn, would mean a harsh blow to Mvua. She did still feel the tingling sensation of power that, at least this time, she had managed to get the demon-lion to succumb, but the laughter was still ringing in her ears. It was a chilling feeling.

"Do not apologize for your progress. Mother wants you to learn how to fight properly," Nyota scolded, although it wasn't a harsh scold, but rather a gentle reprimand. It was amazing the demon lion could be so gentle. (Or at least firm but not cruel.) Even he hadn't known it to be inside him...

"Mother," he'd said. Hakuna. Mvua was surprised to notice how much time had gone by; the sun had now risen somewhat high, and its morning light clearly lit the area. "Thank you, Nyota, for your training," she bowed respectfully, but didn't use his formal title; she couldn't exactly call him her master. "But Master Hakuna will probably be expecting me soon." There was an another awkward pause as her eyes met his again. In that moment, there seemed to be something there. Just what it was, she didn't know, but she saw it in him. An odd.... gentleness. "Farewell, young sir."
Mvua turned without another glance and trotted back to her Master's den. Her mind was flooded with confusion at Nyota's quick mood swings this morning, and she didn't quite know what to make of it all. Anger, cruelty, sarcasm - it all turned into chilling laughter and gentleness in mere moments. But as she trotted to the den, the warm morning sun melted all her thoughts away.....
