Quote: doistu: Though civil unions are recognised here in England it is not marriage as such. As far as I'm concerned marriage is taking an oath in the presence of God. Well thats not recognised here. A civil union, or gay marriage, means that it is easier for a gay couple to live as a family. But believe me it isn't necessarily so great. A gay couple I know who have split recently have done so in a very poor way. The breadwinner of the two has got the house, money and car whilst the stay at home mum has nothing. Its a pain in the arse. I thought British unions were legally the same as marriage? I'd settle for that.

People are going up against a ton of self-righteous idiots who think their beliefs should be imposed upon everyone. Just wait until the idiots die off, and their more open-minded children take their place. Might be a while, but change never happens overnight. I'm sorry, but I can't spend the next several years fighting. Why do I have to? There are better countries out there, anyway. Never said you had to. Just pointing out the obvious.

3 law suits have already been filed against the state.
here is a blog a posted a few days ago. hope you like it. Riots in L.A. have been going on all day over the passing of the unconstitutional law known as Prop 8. The homosexual community has been fighting for this right for hundreds of years and now, after winning this their marriage right earlier this summer, the state took it away based off opinions of people who were not affected by it. Their anger is understandable; to them the government has failed in protecting the rights of minorities. How is this justice? People taking away other’s rights based off propaganda and their own ignorance? This is America; we are all supposed to be free and treated the same in this government. So why is it that a minority is once again being mistreated? It’s as if we have gone back in time to when a black and white male and female could not marry. This seems so long ago in our history, but in reality its not. The civil rights movement has only been sleeping in the background of America for twenty years. Now, in 2008 we have a new minority fighting for their basic human rights, facing the same hatred and discrimination that so many others living here have. You’d think that Americans would be smarter and learn from the past, why must we always be in some sort of civil war? Being a society based off treason and mixed cutlers, I guess this should come too no surprise. I guarantee that this gay rights battle is far from over, it is only the beginning. I don’t think I’m going too far out on a limb by saying this is the start to a new civil rights movement. One can only hope the government will hear the cries of the oppressed soon, before we repeat our bloody history again.
(I however in no way support the riots, so don’t take this letter as an approval of violence).

I'm sorry, but if you can't be bothered to put forth the time and effort, I have to question how much this right means to you and how badly you want it. If there were better countries out there to move to anyways, why even bother fighting for gay marriage here anyways? Why didn't you just bypass the hassle and move to begin with? African-Americans and women didn't have their rights served to them on a silver platter the first few times they asked for them, so I'm not sure why you think that gay rights should be given openly and freely the first few times you try neutral The people of California decided that we should not have equal rights. Why should I stay here if that is the case? America/California have been pissing me off as long as I can remember, and I've had it. As soon as I turn 18 I'm leaving and never looking back. I can only take so much bullshit before I decide to give up on a country, you know.

Quote: The people of California decided that we should not have equal rights. Which is indeed very wrong.
Quote: Why should I stay here if that is the case? That's what I'm still trying to figure out. If it was so much easier to wait and move out of the country, then why bother with the fuss of fighting for equal rights? It seems that you want the rights to be simply handed to you rather than actually, you know, fighting for them and showing the right-wingers that gays ARE indeed equal human beings and indeed deserve the same rights as other human beings.
