Isikali , Sumati's mother was born under another name into a place where mates are arranged - many marriages end happily but others, like hers, do not. Barely an adolescent she was married to a wealthy orange cheetah whose real name she has never revealed but who she now calls Butu'ndole, on the very rare occasion he is mentioned. Butu'ndole means Blunt Claws, and she bitterly jokes he was always trying to sharpen them on her hide, often for very little reason.
A dutiful wife, she tried to love him and when that failed she tried to stand him. But one day she could take it no more, named herself Wild Heart and vowed never to let herself be oppressed again.
What her husband didn't know (thank goodness!) or Isikali herself when she set out but she was carrying their first litter ever. She found her way to the Achana and took refuge there from the cheetahs her husband sent after her, to hurt her and drag her back or even possibly to kill her.
That is where Sumati and his two bothers were born. He doesn't know much about his father, but he has picked up that he wasn't the nicest guy around. He grew a loving and healthy cub, his only desire being to protect his loved ones and his home.
As a juvenile he met Kipepo, a young cheetah girl and a seer. After a bit of a rough start the two became close friends. He finds her character very unique and highly values her friendship. Kipepo might be a little moody sometimes, she is his closest female friend and his best friend.
He's currently wandering near the border of the Achana, where he met a young lioness by the name of Ariyola. She really caught his fancy and Sumati will be staying with her for a while. Ariyola may be his first love interest.

”Can’t catch me!” Sumati swatted the other cub lightly on the shoulder and bolted away. The cubs chased each other in between the trees, laughing and yelling playful threats at each other.
“Ha! I got you now!” Maka cried as she jumped him from behind a bush. Sumati was completely unprepared as she crashed into him and he lost the ground under his paws. The two cubs tumbled down the hill and into a large bush.
Grumbling, Maka managed to get out first. Her coat was all dirty and shabby-looking. When Sumati finally freed himself and looked at her he burst into a fit of laughter. “Look at yourself!” he laughed, despite the fact that he didn’t look any better. However she didn’t reply. “Maka?”
“Look at this!” she said, her voice full of awe. Curious, Sumati went around the bush and gasped. They were looking out from the edge of a cliff. And before them was spread an enormous and beautiful valley.
“Amazing…”
“I know.”
“Do you think that’s the border? Sumati?” Maka turned to the other cub but found Sumati deep in thought, his eyes looking at the valley, but not really seeing it. After a while he spoke quietly, more to himself than to her.
“I wonder if he’s somewhere out there…”
“Who?” asked Maka confused. He’s head snapped to look at her as if he had forgotten she was there.
“My dad.” He said plainly. He fell quiet again, so uncharacteristic for him. Maka returned her attention to the valley. They stood in silence for a few minuets. Until Maka broke it.
“Do you…ever…miss not having him around?” she asked looking at the horizon.
“No!” Sumati hissed. Maka flinched at the malice in his voice and turned to him, eyes wide. His ears were pulled back and pupils narrowed to slits. Seeing her disturbed expression Sumati took a deep, calming breath “We…we don’t need him.”
“He wasn’t very nice, huh?”
Sumati didn’t reply. He thought back to the day he asked his mother why didn’t he and his brothers have a dad. He remembered her words well and spent a fair amount of time believing that story – that his father had loved her, than left her. Sumati had no reason to doubt his mother. Until he started noticing things. Things like the way her muscles tensed up if she was reminded of her life before. Things like the way she almost snarled every time she was reminded of him. Things like the way she hissed out his father’s name, venom dripping from her voice.
No, the story Sumati and his siblings had been told was far from the truth. He was sure of it. It seemed his father was…not all that nice. He had hurt her. Probably both mentally and physically. Sumati felt a painful pang in his heart at the thought. He didn’t want that cheetah anywhere near his family, least of all his mother.
“It doesn’t matter.” Sumati began slowly. Maka was a bit startled by the sound of his voice. Clearly she hadn’t expected him to answer. “Mum has me and my brothers now. And the Achana. We are safe.” He said and gave the other cub a warm smile. She nodded and the two cubs continued gazing at the gorgeous view.
Suddenly Maka’s paw brushed against his shoulder. “Tag! Can’t catch me!” with that she disappeared up the hill.
“Yeah, you better run!” Sumati yelled and dashed after her.
