Go to the local range and rent some stuff that appeals to her, I doubt you'll find what she likes and dislikes otherwise.

And if you're worried about her dropping a .45, only load one cartridge for her at a time.
It'll make it pretty darn difficult to shoot herself that way...

... that's the official Glock website saying .357? eek
I've heard of Glocks in SIG 357 but not .357 Mag.
It only said .357, it didn't specify SIG or MAG, but looking back again, it had a picture of a .357SIG, so I'm blind.

EDIT: HAHAHA, 'more ifno' xd

Well, if I had something like that it would be aimed at where the door would be opening and it would have a threaded barrel so it was actually effective.

Too bad you can't boobytrap your house... legally.

I would do that with my gun safe too.
Orly? You're breaking into my gun safe? Well, here's some 00 buck for your trouble.

Ok, well against my suggesting of getting a Sig 225 in 9mm for $299 she went and got this... other.
I don't even know what the brand is and I have never heard of them.
I forgot what she paid but it was less than 299.
Christ, I should have said that I would have paid the difference.

It's a P9RZ.
Looks to me like a rip off of the S&W M 39 or M 59 and made into a compact. Although the guy selling it said it was a knock off of some type of Browning. Ambi thumb safety, that's nice. Hammer is flush with the slide.

It does appear to have a steel frame or at least it's not some kind of alloy.

The outside seems like a nice finish but the inside seems to be... some kind of brown.
It comes off onto my oil rag but honestly I'm not sure if it's rust or some kind of crud they put on it.

In my opinion, I'm not all too happy about the purchase.
It's a b***h to pull the trigger and a b***h and a half to chamber. It goes fine for a bit, then it hits something and it's ******** hard to go the rest of the way.
She says that she'll get used to it.

I got something though.
A Mosin Nagant with a hex receiver from 1926. ^.^

A bit of woe though, I tried to find someone that would buy my P1 and they get them from the importers for $250.
sad

Well, I'll try that one gunshop that I got my PSL from and see if he would take it or do a trade in.
I say, go ahainst her wishes for her safety.

Hock it and get something more reliable.
A bit of googling later.

The P9RZ is apparently FEG made ultra-compact 9mm. It has EXCESIVE INTERNAL PARTS WEAR.
It is a lose ripoff of the S&W model 59.
The mags WEAR OUT QUICKLY, and mags are scarce. PARTS from M59 mags can be modified to fix old mags.
It has a high bore axis, making mags CRITICAL to reliability.
Aftermarket 10 round FEG mags need extensive smoothing of the internals for reliable feeding.
It is NOT RECOMENDED unless it is the only thing in your price range. Kahr adn Kel-tec are recomended instead.

So, my suggestion stands. Get her something better.

That hangup is probably a broken part. And replacement parts are two bitches to find.

Ah ********, I'll e-mail what you found.

I'm not sure if the guy will take it back. I wish I had seen this sooner.
But even if I saw it yesterday I couldn't do anything anyway since she had to work.

I told her that I knew nothing about that brand and that the SIG was very ******** I shouldn't even have shown her that table.
PostPosted: Mon Dec 01, 2008 3:07 pm
From what I've read, they can be extremely hit or miss, miss more often than hit.

Google the name. Some people like them (for the price range), some don't. You DO get what you pay for. Except with Hi-Point. They'll eat anything and they won't ask questions when you send it in for repair, even if you blatantly ran it over with a steamroller.

Oh s**t.

When I looked to see where this guy is located I saw the receipt.
On the bottom there's a stamp or watermark that says, "All sales final."

Well, we're going to try at that gun shop I got the PSL from and see if he would take it.

Apparently she's going to cut the losses and try and sell it for $200. She paid $300.

SIG 225 for $299 without tax or whatever it is.

Unknown gun for a total of $300.

Why didn't she listen to me, I ******** said that I didn't know the brand and no idea of the quality.

I told her multiple times that the SIG is a good brand and in my opinion, 300 dollars isn't ******** bad for one. Even if it's a used one. Police at that.

Even the guy she bought that piece of s**t from said, "A SIG for $299?! Wow!"

Anyway, as for me I did ok.
I'm gonna see if Al would take my Walther and my bayonet.
Maybe I could get something cool.

... but wait.
It'll be a handgun but I don't have my handgun permit.
He'll know that it'll be for me because my mom would want to be getting another.
PostPosted: Wed Dec 03, 2008 3:05 am
Well, this sucks.

No offer for my Walther was above $250.
Seeing as how I got the package for $420, $375 + mag and wood grips, I'm not going to accept it.

A bit of good news, although when I look back I'm sure I could have gotten more.
I sold my bayonet for $75.
Utica bayonet with... M8A1 scabbard.
It had this leather piece at the end.
If I could have gotten a lot more than what I sold it for don't tell me and don't allude to it.

I got it for $25 or $30 at a pawn shop so I did make some money.

My mother went with me on the deal and asked the gun shop owners about her handgun.
One didn't know and the other knew about the brand but not that particular model. He said that they're a pretty good gun, for the price.

What kind of bayonet? Sounds to me like you ripped the guy off.

Well, since he had about 6 M1 Carbines several with folding stocks I would probably beg to differ. Unless he's stupid about what he carries.

It's a Utica Bayonet.

Like this one but the handle was darker, just about black.

The leather strings were woven... not sure how to exactly describe it.

Wait, I don't have to.

It's the one on the far right.

I looked it up and about s**t my pants. Auction for $325.
But it didn't sell so I didn't feel too bad.
Others were going to 100 or so on eBay and s**t.
Well, I broke better than even so I'm happy.

I did see one auction that made me go, "WTF! That's what I sold!" but then I looked at the seller's info and it was for NC.

That fits in an M8 sheath? Huh. Anywho, given how most of what I see on Gunbroker is ~$100 and Gunbroker is notoriously overpriced, you probably sold it for a fair price.
PostPosted: Wed Dec 03, 2008 1:36 pm
Well that's good to have confirmed. And yes, it did fit well in that sheath, no problems inserting or removing.
What, do you think it was modified or something?

Good to know that, even though I got so much out of it, that it wasn't too far from the 'fair price'.

No, I just think it's funny that the M8 sheath will fit the bayonet for an M1 Carbine, an M14, and an M16. Seems like something the military would do though. It's not like they've been collecting battlefield data over the last fifty years on how effective a bayonet is and what shape/size it needs to be.

Well, when they make some things that are actually good. They tend to stick with it if it isn't broke.
Well, for certain things that are less costly to produce or design a new one of.

In my opinion it needs to be big.
See Japanese Bayonet or the Winchester 1897 Trench gun Bayonet.
They're practically swords.

Someday, I shall buy the machete bayonet for the No.1 Mk.III. Now that's a blade of may uses. It turns the rifle into a halberd, and you can cut brush with it!
