Oh. . .
Okay, can you please explain the family wights, house wights, primal wights, mound wights.
Wait a minute are they spirits for the most part, or are there other beings?
Are there different offerings for different wights?

Where have you come across these terms?

Wights of this nature are simply spirits that are tied to said place/people. They can protect, help, guide, etc...
It's generally considered appropriate to offer to wights that inhabit a home or land.

What we refer to as wights now are mostly spirits.
There are other beings like the alfar (Nordic elves) and the Nordic dwarfs (look San-chan I spelled it right!), but I'm unsure of their presence in modern times.

I think the generally accepted offering for wights are bread and milk.
You may want to try to get to know the wights in an area to see if there's anything they like in particular 3nodding

I believe I came across the term in Diana L. Paxon's Essential Asatru.

Thanks for the tip. I'll be sure to ask the wight under the basemet stairs what he prefers.

Another book I have to re-read xd
Good luck with the house wight!

Do you think that a land wight could be different from a Dryad or can they be the same?

Dryads are tree nymphs. Very different, imo.

I would say they are different.
Like San-chan said, Dryads are tree nymphs. Land wights...can inhabit trees, but they are not limited to them.

Thank you for posting this info. It has been very helpful. I actually am familiar with this religion, I just wasn't familiar with the name of it. My hubby actually has a Thor's Hammer for on his alter. And he also has a set of runes to use.

Owning those things...doesn't make him an Asatruar. No more than owning a chalice and a blade and a pentacle make you a Wiccan, or drinking and dancing make you a Hellenic Recon.

Your definitions for Blot and Sumbel are different than another place. I like yours better. I'd rather not sacrifice an animal (blot) because I 1) wouldn't want to harm the animal and 2) am not skilled as a butcher and so the animal would probably die a long painful death... or at least, that's what it was originally, correct?

Excuse me, but does anyone have any knowledge / opinions on the Dokkalfar (dark elves) or Svartalfar (black elves)?

What I've read on wikipedia tells me that these races may be the same under different names, or may be completely separate races, and either of them (or both) may simply be another name for the Dvergr (Dwarfs).

Any ideas at all?

You'll find some in-depth discussion on the subject in Kveldulf Gundarsson's "Elves, Wights and Trolls". The conclusion seems to be that dark alfs are "mound alfs", i.e. the dead (Turville-Petre's theory is that they are primarily the male ancestors as the disir are the female), and that Swart alfs do seem to be dwarfs.
