Lela's eyes widened and her face turned to shock - but only for a moment. She cleared her throat and quickly regained her posture. "You found abandoned cubs." She repeated it without a hint of question in her voice. The repitition was just for her benifit. She needed to completely let this one soak in. Abandoned cubs. Firstly, it was beyond her why anyone in their right mind would abandon cubs. How could a mother part with the children she had carried for so long? Or at least, it would seem so long to the pregnant lioness, wouldn't it? Lela honestly wasn't sure, but she assumed that's how it would be. Those kids were a part of their mother. How could she so readily drop them into the world without protection like that?
Then again, she didn't know the whole story. She felt a little bad for judging so harshly without knowing anything about this situation... but still! Abandoning cubs! She couldn't come up with any excuse for such an action! And now these cubs were being cared for by... Thoth? Oh goodnes. Oh goodness gracious. She gave the gaurd a once over. He was good at his job. He was loyal. He was mature. He was respectful. But did any of that mean he could raise cubs alone? She assumed her was a just fine father, perhaps even a great one. But alone? "No - No need to apologize. Where are they?" She looked around them, as if expecting little heads to pup out of the ground.

Thoth could sense that she was sizing him up as a father, it was inevitable really- especially where he had told a female. Fathers were fine and dandy, but they weren't quite the same kind of necessary as mothers. Thoth knew that well at this point, they weren't starving yet but they would be if he didn't find Artemis and find out if she could lend them a paw.
"They're back nearer where you found me," he said, glancing back, "They were asleep, but they'll be up and hungry soon. They can't be more than a couple days old."

She grew very quiet as to keep herself from freaking out. "Thoth," her voice was calm. Almost too calm. "They're so young." She closed her eyes and swallowed. No, she couldn't freak out. She could NOT freak out. So young! Alone! How could that even happen in her pride? She reminded herself that these cubs were not from the pride. Oh yes. But they were here now. And they were alone now. And they were more than likely very hungry. Hungry babies were cranky. They needed care. They needed food. They couldn't stay this far out from the center of the pride. She opened her eyes and stared at Thoth sharply, as if all of this was suddenly sinking in. He couldn't leave now. He had to stay here, in the pride. There was no way her brother could send this gaurd back out into the field.
"Let me see them?" She stared up at him carefully. Part of her wanted to see them because, well, they were BABIES! Who didn't want to see new babies. Of course, there was a much more serious reason to see them. She wanted to assess how healthy they were. She wanted to make sure they were okay.

He quickly recognized the tone of voice Lela spoke with. She wasn't impressed with his leaving them alone, but he had no intended in going so far away. It was not his place to disagree with a priestess, so he had come along with her. He was confident with his skills as a guard to know they were safe where they were. And they weren't exactly mobile so they would not be going anywhere. He didn't say anything, though, for again he was in a position where he wasn't sure he was able to argue.
Thoth nodded when asked to let her see them. He sighed and turned around to lead the way back. He moved quickly enough, he was eager to get back to them as well, after all.
