It's all return to your intention. If you want to thank Allah for your life, being alive until that day, and share this to friends by making a aparty, why not? But if you do it overboard, that is what wrong there. Everything that went overboard always make something bad..

Dragon_Of_Islam actually it's haram if u invite a lot of people (not a lot i mean even few) and make party and make this birthday like a holyday and u know in islam the r just two hily days right? so it's ok if u thank Allah to let u live one more year in this life ^_^ but to invite people and make party?? i don't think so ^_^ besides...who is the first who did the birth day thing???? not islam of course even the valentine days, mothers day and more and more it's absolutely not islam ^_^ It doesn't matter who first made it. Why don't you see it as something people all over the world celebrates. Let's call it a day for unity, when muslims, and all other people have fun, or whatever celebrate one day together. And get out from that box! that I am muslim, I shouldn't celebrate anything that is not required by Islam. We shouldn't dress like that, and eat that, and say that, and speak to that, and blabalaaaa!
I'm not forcing you to do or not do anything, but open your eyes and live your life.
Seriously, now be honest and tell me what would make you happy, and what do "living your life" mean to you?
