A Saiga 12K and my PSL, bingo bango done-o. http://club.guns.ru/images/symposium/23.jpgI suppose if you wanted to destroy the boat, I'd go at it with a different approach. I like fire. HK69 with incendiary. smile But if they started getting smart and got fire extinguishers... wait, incendiary uses thermite right? ... yeah good luck. But in any case, an HE frag would scuttle a fishing boat right? A few Mk 19s or XM307s on a ship might be enough.

OberFeldwebel But if they started getting smart and got fire extinguishers... wait, incendiary uses thermite right? No, they generally use magnesium, which makes it all the funnier. You know what happens when you hit magnesium with a CO2 fire extinguisher? It explodes in a gigantic flaming spatter, like dropping a cup of water in a pan of boiling oil. The only way to put out magnesium is a vacuum. The problem with the Mk. 19 is that it's only usable if mounted, which means you have to have a bunch of them to cover every possible blind spot of approach. I'd go for the M32 first, just give one to each crew member. They're probably a lot cheaper anyway.

Seriously though, if you ever try to extinguish magnesium with a CO2 fire extinguisher, it's really impressive. It just makes it ANGRY.

Fresnel war_junky 91 Fresnel Some of these freighter captains need to go talk to FN about their HIWS.
I think that could sink a dinghy. Also, shotguns. I'd bet shotgun > battle rifle when on board a ship.Personaly i would have a couple men armed with .50 rifles. Put a round through the dinghy and its game over, and if you miss you scare the ever loving piss out of them. What, a half-inch hole in a wooden-hulled skiff? Kind of piddly-s**t. One guy with a bucket could bail fast enough to keep the boat from sinking. Shotguns are where it's at. 12 gauge (.73) > .50. I meant the inflatible zodiaks. Yeah, a large wooden boat would be a different story though.

There is, but unless the pirates deal in combustible metals i doubt they have access to them. The majority of extinqushers out there are class C.

Fresnel Man of the Demoneye Floyd There is a very thin tightrope that every president dating back to Teddy Roosevelt had to walk. Do we just kill any and all comers involved in piracy and hope they get the idea it isn't worth bothering US flag bearing ships, or do we let the ship owners try and buy their way out as they have for most of the last 100 years. There is no doubt that people should be angry. But this anger should be leveled against a nation that harbors such people. Just as we are trying to find what's left of Bin Laden's followers in the borderlands of Afghanistan, we should sweep the coasts of Northeast Africa and make damn sure the locals get the picture. The era of piracy is over. This path leads to death and poverty. I've also wondered why the ship owners don't bother to field their own paramilitary naval attack crafts, similar to what our Navy SEALs use for their missions? There must be thousands of qualified ex-military personal who would love a crack at this job! I agree with killing pirates of any nation, be it Somalia, US, or any other. The thing with Somalia is that they have no real government and it looks like it will stay that way for quite some time. As for attack craft and arms, other countries are paranoid that the ship can launch a minor attack against them. I would love to see basic weapons training on the class schedule though... I'm wondering why these people don't arm themselves when they're on these boats. One or two paramilitary-trained shiphands could EASILY repel Somalian ******** if they shoot anything like Liberians (and I bet they do). Anyone have the rest of the set?

Another thought comes to mind. How does a bag of sand stop thermite? If I recall thermite is self oxidizing so even cutting off the air supply won't stop it from burning.

Thermite is, magnesium isn't. Magnesium just has the brute strength to pull oxygen from nearly anything, though apparently not SiO2.
