Pretty much. Anyone with a hint of masculinity leaves the 'u' silent. It's pronounced as if it did have a u, but you stop at 'des'. Only the girliest of girls ACTUALLY say 'desu'. ~desu. Ah, I did not know that. The more you know! Ah, when it comes up I'll be sure to say des' instead.

When you watch anime, occasionally you'll pick up a 'des' come from a male character. I watched one where a character was debating between the phrases 'suki da' and 'suki desu'. They both mean the same thing ("I like you"), but one is manlier and one is more respectful.

Guys, I think we're forgetting Rules 1 and 2.
1. Do not talk about /b/. 2. Do NOT talk about /b/.
And real men don't say "desu" at the end of every sentence. -Desu
Ah, ********.....

Ah, ******** class="clear"> Eh, everyone already knows about /b/. In fact, it has died of cancer so many times now that it is a zombie vampire mummy. Level 5.

A note: If you ever watch Excel Saga, FOR THE LOVE OF CHRIST, WATCH THE SUBS. English Excel has the most annoying voice I've ever heard. It tops FRAN DRESCHER. On a related note, I recommend Excel Saga. Just make sure to watch Ep. 26 as well... some places may not have it. It was never aired in most countries. It's titled "Going Too Far" for a reason.

I loved Excel Saga, but the cover of the boxed set my friend has is VERY misleading. It's the most random anime I've ever watched, and there are so many puns on other anime (Cowboy Bebop, DBZ, etc.) that it's hard to keep track.

The only two I picked up were DBZ and one from Fist of the North Star. I was TOTALLY expecting the dude to explode, and instead he turns into a chibi. AWESOME. Oh yeah, and the vague reference to Alien.

Especially since that was her only ******** purpose in the whole series, was to get shot down and die.
